Do you have something like this coming for the Ultra? Would love a kit that allowed tilt, but also secured the RA2 to the base of the Ultra so it doesn't shift between cups.
@@mikeyneeley Hi Mike, not sure why I didn't catch this comment earlier, but yes absolutely, I'll post up that link here for you if you haven't already seen my latest video on the ULTRA. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--SMHiMlrrxo.htmlsi=X8_UbjN4VOd5u561 Thanks!
My setting was Power 80, Speed 400, LOC 300 with an SVG design. The brand of the tumbler was Kodi. I will likely try again with different tumbler brand. I am sold on your tilt mechanism and look forward to trying it.
Sounds good, might be the brand then as you suggested. I just had the regular xtool smoke purifier hooked up in the sync setting with the switch at the back flipped to high. Other than that it was business as usual. With smoky materials I usually have another standalone room filter going but I usually don't run that for tumblers
Great video and very helpful! I started using my ra2 this weekend and your products will be helpful. I am concerned about the burning smell of the tumblers despite the air purifier and since the F1 is open, my craft room smelled for hours after engraving 1 tumbler. Any suggestions or thoughts about that issue? Thanks!
Interestingly I've found that the F1 produces the least offensive smell when engraving tumblers. What are your settings like? I've noticed that on some of my other higher power machines I might have the power on too high and it smells worse. On the F1 the settings that I used were just enough to remove the coating but didn't produce that really noticeable burning paint smell.
I have a question. In your video (5.46) you are previewing the image on the tumbler; how are you doing that? I also engraved a tumbler using BL and then, without touching the tumbler processed it again using IR and my IR was slightly off. Can you tell me what I did wrong? I am new to this and have ruined so many tumblers, until I learned to tape them with painters tape while I am practicing. I just ordered your Tilt mech, which will be super helpful. Thank you
That was just camera tricks :) I took the footage from my screenshot and overlaid it with the footage of the machine and reduced the opacity of the top layer. This is all after the fact and the intent was to show how in the software I rotated the image to match the direction of the tumbler when looking at it from the front of the machine. In reality there is no way to preview it like this, but you do have the framing tool to help you visualize where the image will be. In the video I explain how in XCS the green line at the top with the little rotating arrow symbol represents the very top of your tumbler. So if you align one of the edges of your graphic with that green line, that edge will be at the top of your tumbler when you engrave it. Edit to add a thank you for your order :)
You are so smart and crafty!! I just love all of your ideas of fixing any making things work better. I just literally purchase most of those inventions your made. I just subscribed too :)
I'll see what I can do for future versions, I had looked into it the past and had a hard time finding thumbscrews that long but maybe I can get some custom made!
They come with the F1 tilt mechanism. If you need just the feet separately, head to the contact page on my site and shoot me a message and we can work something out. Thanks!
Really appreciate the videos and the products. I’ve bought the backstop and the swivel assembly for the rotary- I am doing some 85mm diameter cups and the focus is maxing out when I line up the dots. Do you run into this issue? I feel like additional risers will help but I’m thinking I’m doing something wrong
Yes if you're finding a workpiece where the focus is a bit out of range- try shimming the whole machine up a few mm (while leaving the RA2 on the table.. don't lift this). Sometimes I use 3mm basswood under the F1 feet to shim it up 3mm at a time until it will focus again. Thanks!
@@EmbraceMaking Sounds good. Thanks again. You have made using this rotary a breeze. I don't suppose you have a settings suggestion for a white yeti tumbler? Had great success on certain cups but it mangled my yeti test piece. Can't find a lot of info on doing white Yetis on an F1 specifically, not sure if the textured white coating is somehow outside the range of what the F1 can engrave.
If you're looking for just the riser feet - contact me through my website: embracemaking.com/pages/contact I can get you the riser feet separately, thanks!
Great video, and perfect price point on the products- I have been thinking about designing something just like this, but when yours are already made and one click away… I happy ordered instead! Two suggestions- it would be great if there was a tool-less solution for adjusting the angle of the tilt. Perhaps a longer screw with an adjustment knob instead of the shorter hex bolt? It would also be wonderful to have the ability to fine tune the tilt with the twist of a dial. I’m imagining a lead screw that inserts into a jointed shaft under the chuck. That would let you spin the screw to adjust the angle of the the chuck plus it would be much more stable before tightening things down.
Very much an "it depends" kind of situation... it depends on the size and intricacy of the graphic, how far it wraps around, etc. I can see if I can go back in my files and see if I can find the estimated job time for some of these examples
Thank you so much! I guess it's always a little easier to see the solution clearly once the product is developed and in use - but I wouldn't be surprised if these companies have their own similar solutions soon
Got my items yesterday and have to say more than happy :-) Would be a nice extra to include the allen wrench for the bottom angle adjusting screw bit luckily have an extra :-) Thanks again!
You mentioned that the IR laser needs some time to heat up. Since we are dealing with heat, the room temperature probably affects the settings. I would think that is would benefit for xTool to give a reference room temperature and experiment on what the settings changes should be on +1 or -1 degrees so you can adjust accordingly.
received mine today and wow, amazing. i do a lot of glass wine tumblers and this has already made my life easier. no more propping the back of the rotary up and hoping it does not move. thanks for an amazing idea and product
Making the image a vector takes away any greyscale artifacts so the edges are sharp + vectors can be scaled without loss. So I just generally like working with them when I can.
Amazing video and I will be ordering your accessories. I did have one question, for short highly tapered shot glasses which method would you recommend? Use the rotator with your tilt mechanism? These are only about 2.5" tall, 2" opening diameter x 1.25" bottom diameter. None of the included chucks will hold the glasses due to the taper. Thanks!
I just noticed that the rotary guide I received requires the long bolts anchoring the chuck to the device actually need to be inserted on opposite side (backside) as the implanted nut into which the screw will insert is actually on the chuck side not as shown in video.
I believe you're talking about the long bolts from the original RA2 that hold it to the tilt? If so, it is okay if they are facing either direction, it won't impact anything. Thanks!
I just ordered my F1 and was thinking of trying to engrave a spiral graphic on a cylinder. Have you tried that? I'm already thinking og mounting the rotary chuck on the slider to engrave magic wands 😂. I assume I'll need a cable extension and it limits the max diameter quite a bit...
The continuous spiral would be an interesting challenge. I recently made a video with 360 degree engraving but to do a continuous spiral you'd have to get more creative... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ajFcnnmS3c.html
Hi Jim, sorry not sure how I missed this comment for so long. Yes the bubble level holder and backstop kit are their own listing here: embracemaking.com/products/xtool-ra2-bubble-level-holder-and-backstop-kit?_pos=1&_psq=bubble&_ss=e&_v=1.0 Thanks!
I didn't know it before, but I need that stinking tool . . . love how some of you industrious folks are so creative . . . about to get my mug on (as soon as my order arrives) . . .
@@EmbraceMaking, this add on is great and worth every penny . . . (once I got it set up) . . . a must have . . . have to make 16 coffee mugs for a friend . . . banged out 8 in no time with this tool . . . thanks so much for taking the time to create this . . .
I believe they have tried to speed it up with optimized tool paths in the newest creative space 2.0 but yes I did expect it to be a faster machine than it is.
Your link to hazardous materials is not working unless it’s not available in Australia, thanks for your awesome videos, I’ve saved the F1 videos for when I get mine soon.
I have just ordered your tilt mechanism and am looking forward to using it. It seems by far the best solution I’ve found to allow me to easily and accurately engrave the inside of the rings I make. I’m also going to be rotating the motor to put the connector on top, such a great tip. I think this set up is how the RA2 should leave the factory! Thank you for all the content and upgrades you have put out for the F1 - as a new laser user and F1 owner, you have been an invaluable resource and it is much appreciated!
