Hello, yes...I would highly recommend this as a first machine. It has worked great for me, and xtool software is really easy to use. Having it all enclosed is supper convenient compared to the cheaper, open framed machines.

@@chaddiy3512thank you! Do you think 20W is powerful enough to start with? We've been looking at the creality falcon2 mainly due to the price point. Hard to decide as beginners what would be the better beginner machine.

How does it compare to P2 co2 speeds and usability? I'm torn between these two..

Hello, the P2 is for sure faster and leaves cleaner cuts as well. For me I would recommend the P2 if you are planning on it for business, and the S1 if it is just for personal use.

Hello, if you remove the honeycomb it looks like you would have around 1 and a half inches to work with.

It can cut colored acrylic, but not clear.

Really like this machine. Easy to use software, automatic Z height, looks to be build very solid, full enclosure and other great things like a 40W diode. What more do you need? I assume the camera might come later as a add-on feature. Thanks for the review!

Hello, Yeah...I know some people would have liked a camera on it, but for $1599 for the 20 watt version. I think the price is great for all you are getting. The 40 watt version I have, is really coming close to the power of my xTool P2 as well. Thanks for watching!

@@chaddiy3512 a camera is nice, but for me it's not a necessary thing. Do really like the two point alignment. Hope to see your video about the automatic conveyor feeder soon 👍🏻

@@jewijk The two point alighment seems to work really well. I havent used it a ton yet, but it seems to be the next best thing to an actual camera. I have used a lot of diode lasers, and most of them basically have nothing to help figure out exactly where you are going to be cutting or engraving on your material. To me, xTool has been the leader in figuring out how to do that well.

@@Just-Make I do still prefer the p2, mainly for the camera system and the ability to cut clear acrylic with the co2 laser. The price difference between the 2 machines is pretty big though. If I was getting my first laser today, I would forsure get the S1 20 watt...I think for what you get for that price, it is the bast bang for your buck out of any laser out there.

There is no doubt it's a nice "looking" laser, but the absence of a camera is a deal breaker. The 2-point system is only functional when using a square piece of wood, it won't map out a triangle, precut "hobby shop" wood shapes like a circle, arrow, plus sign...you get the point. With odd shapes, you're forced to frame it with the cross hairs. They made a big deal about the 2-point being more accurate than a camera, then why did they put 2 cameras in the P2? They should of put a camera in the S1...opportunity missed. They also made the work area too small, if you have a 13" x 13" piece of wood it won't work, and if you spend the money on the riser and conveyor, it still won't work because the 13" x 13" is too small and won't work with the conveyor. They should of made the D1-V2 and put a nice enclosure around it, included the P2's camera and called it good.

Hello, I agree that the camera system would be great, but that would have really added to the price. Right now you can get the S1 20watt for $1599. That is just a little bit more then the D1 pro, and to get the full enclosure, fume extraction, and some of the latest tech, it is worth it in my opinion.

Great video! Thank you for showing the actual speed of the laser. Most people speed the video up to save time, and I can't tell how fast or slow the laser is working.

I'd be keen to see how it performs on 6mm ply if you every want to show that. In particular, Kerf is critical to my work so understanding how much material is removed when cutting 6mm ply at sensible settings would be of interest.

Thanks for the comment. It does cut 6mm without a problem. My understanding is the higher the wattage diode laser, the larger the kerf would be. If you are looking for the smallest kerf, but still able to cut 6mm nicely. This S1 with the 20watt module might be perfect for you.

Thanks for the response@@chaddiy3512. I'm currently using a 50w CO2 with similar bed size, but being a business I think the safety features of this unit would be of benefit. Always a tough battle between speed and power when it comes to kerf. I think I will order one and give it a try.

Hello, to me the P2 was the best choice by far for a desktop co2 laser. I really didn't want to go the gloforge route, and I like the xtool software over lightburn ( even though you can use both with the P2) I am guessing you could get a nicer Thunder laser for closer to the 10k range. The P2 has the great camera system and 55 watts was plenty of power for what I want it for.

I engrave 15in by 15in concrete blocks, would it fit the enclosure?

Hello, The bed size is listed at 23.93"×15.16" so it should fit. Keep in mind though the working area is 19.6"× 12.5"
