Awesome review mate as always. Love the technical focus, appreciated. It would be great if they would be able to get the beam width back to the D1 pro 20w size or better. It is a nice machine and development is progressing rapidly. One wonders what will be next !
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 11 месяцев назад
The more powerful lasers will always be a bit wider because they have more diode sources to be focused in one beam. But the xTool S1 is still very good

@YaaLFH 10 месяцев назад
The S1 20W module has smaller dot size than the D1 20W. The S1 40W module has smaller dot size than the D1 40W, same size as D1 20W.

Still can’t be compared with the xTool F1 / LP3 for metal engraving 😂 But perhaps great for wood work.
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 11 месяцев назад
xTool F1 is meant mainly for engraving wood and metal, the xTool S1 is meant for engraving larger designs and laser cutting parts from various materials. Totally different purpose

@@JTMakesIt sorry, but I meant to compare them for metal engraving purpose.

@@thanatosor if course F1 is much faster because of the galvo system. Laser power is the same

I am looking for a laser that can handle precise engraving on leather (curved) , what kind of machine/ lasertype would you recommend ?
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 6 месяцев назад
What kind of curvature? how much of an curve? Can you use rotary or not?
@nitmoi
@nitmoi 6 месяцев назад
@@JTMakesIt Hi, I am talking about, finished leather products that require specific logos or initials, like wallets, bags, passport covers and such (so not really flat) Rotary does not seem to be an option, But Since I make the items myself, I could do the customization beforehand. For my products I use a vegetable tanned leather and I want to minimize the 'burned' look as much as possible, what type of laser head would you recommend. diode, fiber co2.. The Commarker B4 seems interesting (usability, size, batch processing) but I don't know how well you can engrave leather with this. Otherwise the Xtool might be an option. I am curious to know if you have had any experience with this, Cheers Johannes
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 6 месяцев назад
@@nitmoiBoth the CO2 and fiber can engrave leather very well. Fiber will be much faster, but it has shallower depth of field. If you get the ComMarker, get the 200mm lens too as the larger lenses have longer field where the beam is relatively in focus. Talking about a range of up to about 3 millimeters here. On the other hand, the xTool P2 (or the S1) have the realtime focus adjustments if you would require bigger range of focus adjustments. But that process is slow and not great for larger quantities. If you send me an email (go to my profile/about) I can send you a photo of some leather I have engraved with a fiber.

It appears that the 20W version may not be able to take advantage of the machine's travel speed.

Thank you for what I have found to be the best Video on the X Tool S1 to date and I've watch quite a few. I especialy appreciate you getting right to it without the "Unboxing". I have a shop where I make high end hardwood dovetailed keepsake boxes and chests. Most of them have some kind of laser engraving which I need to go off site to get done. I'm considering purchasing my 1st Laser Machine and this looks like the one. Would you recomend this for a beginer like me? I can also see other applications for cut outs etc. Thanks for your time sorry for the losng message.

I actually wanted to buy a S1 20W and I am going to buy it after watching all the review videos. One question I would like to ask is about the point positioning feature. Since we still point manually, there are definitely still minor inaccuracies. Is there a way for this machine to automatically identify the edge points of objects? I know it doesn't have a camera feature.
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 8 месяцев назад
No it cant automatically detect edges. But if I want to engrave a logo on a round object for example (keychain),I usually put a wooden board on the bed and engrave a circle of the same size on it and then I place the keychain in that circle and align the design in that circle in the software (another layer) and I have perfect positioning every time. I can explain in more detail if you want. Also, if you decide to buy, you can support this channel with buying through my link in description at no extra cost to you and I also have a discount code there :)

Thanks for your reply. Your solution sounds smart and I think I kinda get it. I would love to learn more about it. I will just need to get familiar with the software first. @@JTMakesIt

Another question just came to my mind which is how to engrave on multiple objects at the same time? Since it doesn't have a camera, do I have to point positioning manually every single object like ketchain? @@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 8 месяцев назад
@@elginwang1572 I usually use the laser to cut a wooden jig that positions multiple parts at once very precisely. Since I have cut it with a laser I have precise positions of each individual piece.
@I-LOVE-EARTH
@I-LOVE-EARTH 11 месяцев назад
So they give you a so-called "precision" 2-point system, that you then have to eyeball your design to center it within the green outlined area...hmm...
@JTMakesIt
@JTMakesIt 11 месяцев назад
It is very hard to have a precise single camera system in a machine with little vertical space above the workbed. Position accuracy is usually more than 3mm. S1 also has position encoders on all axis so you can position the design with hand and see the actual position in software in realtime. This is something no other machines have and it is very useful. Much faster and easier to position. Having dual camera system like P2 would make it too expensive
@I-LOVE-EARTH

Good info, I do think they should of made a model with the cameras and called it PRO or something along those lines and let the buyer choose...just saying. @@JTMakesIt

No. Diode lasers can't cut transparent stuff. You would need the xTool P2 for that. Check my review of the P2. I have cut transparent plexiglass in the video
