This is undeniably a spectacular layout, so the interest generated was not at all surprising. Hopefully more folks will visit your channel and be inspired to give the hobby a try. Best wishes for successful repairs to your motive power. Keep us posted
A Big tip o the Hat to you on this. I remember when you started designing and building this layout. What a journey it has been. Your dedication to it and unselfishness in sharing it, (not an easy feat to achieve) is to be commended. A true labor of love. Thank you!!!
This video shows what a fantastic Builders you are to be able to take that all apart move it to the train show put it back together and it work perfectly.
Well congratulations on the successful show, looks like your layout grew a lot of attention and everybody enjoyed it, now I just say get it back together and start repairing the good luck Bill👍👍
Bill, congratulations on realizing your goals with the building of this awesome layout. I'm sure I speak for all of us here that have followed along in your Model Railroading Adventures, when I say, we are not surprised by the attention and draw of patrons at the Show to view it. This is a layout to be proud of, and might I also add how proud we all are of you for sharing this great Hobby with everyone. Ian made a great naming suggestion and it fits well w/ the theme. As far as the Locomotive failures, they are unfortunate, but are a part of this Hobby. Eventually, any long running electo-mechanical device has its life ended......ultimately thru wear & tear. The trade-off here is, that this Hobby has more triumphs then pifalls........ IMHO. Again, Congrats !!!!!
Looked really good on display , wish I could have seen it .Been a while since I've been to a train show . Wishing you the best on getting engines repaired . Thx for the vid. - Ken
All that springs to mind is Bill’s excellent adventure. It’s such an impressive layout and you should be proud of the attention it got. Well deserved after all your hard work. Good luck sorting out your motive problems. Cheers.
Amazing work, Bill. A years worth of blood, sweat, and tears have paid off. You must be very proud of your accomplishments. It seems to have been a great turnout for the show. Take care. Sean.
Nicely done Bill. It's fun to see the little guys and gals get exited to see your trains run. You certainly had great crowds around your layout, which looks fantastic btw, especially in an open venue. Too bad about the locomotive failures. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing the complete process of getting ready and the reaction at the show! I encluded would have spent a good amount of time looking it over. Im sure the videos only do it so much justice! I bet that was a great expierence being able to converse with onlookers. Thanks for the mention on the name, had no idea it would stick, glad you found it fitting. Had to be a bit on the nerves taking it apart for the first time. Shame on the locomotive failures, because theyre all great looking pieces. Take care!
The layout looked great and a whole lot of people got to enjoy the layout, including me! So happy it worked out like you wanted and as others have said, it’s not surprising you drew a crowd. The layout is fantastic!
Great vidio, As to long haul engine's iv found the lionchief 0 8 0 steam engine excellent, my 681 pw steam turbine, and a crazy little 0 4 0 T b&o that runs the heck out of them all. Go figure. Our Yard layout is over 100' long loop to loop @ 40mph with a run time of 6hrs x years...Thanks for the coffee...
CONGRATULATIONS on your 1st Public Testdrive & Show, your hard work looks like it was well appreciated bummer on the Motive pwr however their failures had NOTHING to do with the layout again Job well done Bill 🤝
That is great Bill, looks like you had a great time and was a successful first show. Hey two things. 1: Lift Gate and you can’t get get a ramp trailer. 2: iI have seen many people put up lists of ‘Can you find….’ To look for things on the layout. Sorry about the engines. Guess you are going to have to get some upgraded Motive power, another trip to Ohio, unless you go down to Tidewater.
Definitely going to use a trailer next time. I did look at trucks with lift gates but here you need a CDL to rent. I havd thought about a can you find list and may do that in the future
Happy to see the cumulative effort pay off so far. Sorry to hear about the locomotive successive failures, but glad the layout was enjoyed by one and all!
Morning or afternoon Bill, Justin (trainmaster Bond)here. It was great to meet you in person and talk shop. I hope one day we can meet up again and run trains or just go out and railfan trackside. If you ever make it one day to Savannah, let me know. I will set you and your wife up at the River Street Inn which I am in charge of for building grounds and maintenance. I still cannot get the layout from my mind. I have seen some good layouts, but yours wins the Golden Model Train Award if they ever had one.
Congratulations on this wonderful diorama completion and debut! I'm sure showgoers will delight as much in seeing it displayed as we had watching you create it.🚂🚃🚃
Great video! I’m so happy for you Bill. 😀😀😀. You planned everything so well. Beautiful layout and impressed so many at the show I’m sure. Too bad about the locos but older guys just can run for long times. 😀 One suggestion - skirt for the layout while at show. Icing under the cake…
Thanks Fred!!! Yeah if I didn’t have to travel the week before I was thinking of adding in a skirt but just didn’t have time. Think I’ll have that in place before I do it again
Well done Bill! You must be chuffed to have your layout at an exhibition. That running all day sure sorts out the new from the old. Looks like you have a bit of rebuilding to do on the locos. 👍
It's wonderful that you got to see all your hard work payoff. I hate that you had such a problem with the locos... you have all kinds of new projects now! Maybe the A&WL will have to see about purchasing some new equipment!!
Congrats, Bill! I knew you'd draw a lot of attention at the show. It looked like you had many standing and really looking carefully. I'm sure people kept you busy answering questions too! ...Claude
Hi Bill glad everything went well on the move back and forth . The layout looked awesome at the show and I bet some people were excited seeing it . Sounds like you're going to need a fleet of locos to swap out during the day . I can't believe you wore down the gears on one of them wow that's some running you did. Take care . BTW how did you the modules into the truck ?
Totally amazing. I adore bridges of all kinds. My question today is how would one know what speed to run the trains at for best realistic display. Many that I see are at a "runaway train" speed. Is there a way to figure out what speed to run on a scale basis?
It’s a great question. Modelbuildings.org has a scale speed calculator. It’s called Free scale speed calculator. For the show I had the trains running faster that I normally would at home so the standard gauge O would be visible often for the little kids rather than hidden inside. That website gives some speed range for a few basic operations. It can also calculate speeds for all major scales as well.
Congratulations Bill, That was an awesome video. All that hard work made all those happy faces on the children, young and old. Would like to have seen the look on some of they guys when they seen the still. Glad you got to and from the show safely. Sorry to hear about the power, but I think a very successful first running in public. Would be nice to find another persons video on YT and find them fiming and commenting on the A&WL RR.
