XTS5000 is more forgiving. the XTS3000 can play hard to get with 64bit OS's.

Sure I will post another vid when I get home Saturday. I can do conventional and conventional p25 only as these are too old for the new types of trunking out there.

Cant go wrong with a older motorola radio. I havent programmed a xts5000 but cant imagine its too different. Been saving up for an Xpx8000

@@ATI556 Lets just say if you look deeply into the web you may or may not find it, also eBay also gets software from time to time.

When you upload the codeplug to the radio that is considered cloning if i remeber correctly. Try seeing of there is an option to clone the code plug.

From memory, you open the codeplug file from radio A, but then go into the clone menu and read serial number of radio B which is connected to the computer via the cable. The radio will read the serial and then you should be able to clone/write to radio B unless radio B's features are different than radio a. In that case, you will have to reconcile the errors before you can write.

If you are trying to write an existing code plug to a different radio, the flash code must match, and you'll need to change the serial number to match the radio you are writing to. If you don't, and they don't match, you'll have issues.

@@Natsuki814 Robert's issue of serial number though is a matter of using the clone radio function and then within that screen you read the serial number of the new radio, then if all of the features of the two radios match (aka flashcodes match), then you "program radio" to the other radio. I got the impression from the original post that he was simply trying to open a .cpg file from another radio and write it to his radio which will never work. Clone is the answer because that is the only way to change the serial number since you can't just go into a codeplug file and key in a different serial number. For the flashcode differences if there are differences, you could have minor issues like reconciling a Model I codeplug with only a few buttons to a Model III radio with full keypad. Very easy to fix. Or the issued could be catastrophic, like you have a VHF .cpg file and you're trying to write 800MHz frequencies to that radio...no way to fix that on an XTS series radio.

@@Redneck_Ed You can manually enter the serial number in the box on the clone radio screen, its how I have cloned 4 of my radios without reading them and just overwriting the codeplug. (matching flashcodes) I have done this because I manage radios for friends and each wants the radios to be 90% like mine, but with a tweak or two, so I first write my codeplug, then make the changes. Doing so in the clone screen is how one changes it in the codeplug only. It can be manually changed on the clone screen. I loaded up the CPS to figure out how I did it as it has been a few months. And I successfully changed the serial number, but it must be from the clone window. Nowhere else allows it, and the serial number entered MUST match the radio being written to. To change the serial number on the radio itself requires the radio to be loaded into depot. One can read the radio to automatically change it, but no need. The serial number has nothing to do with the model designation. What you are thinking of is the model number, which isnt so easy to change in a codeplug, and requires the depot software as well. The model#, the serial#, and the flashcode all need to match or CPS will NOT write. So theres no risk of writing a model I into a model II or III with standard CPS. It won't allow it.

You have to get the APX series radios for P25 phase 2 TDMA capability.

Xts 5000 and 2500 will do phase 2 we use them in Wv on our wvsirn trunks network all the time

Hey Aurora, thanks for the comment. I have a video showing how to program these on the software. in the meantime if you ask your company what freqs they use they may give you the inputs and outputs. However if this is a big company like UP they will most likely not let you use your own radio on their rails for liability. Railroad radios have a very big responsibility and a malfunctioning radio can cause a derailment by a miscommunication user error. Make sure your boss is good with it and get it in an email to be safe.

@@ATI556 Thanks for the comment my friend. Fortunately, I don’t work for UP, I work for CSX. CSX doesn’t really have any regulation against personal radios, but i’ll find out from management. The little baofengs and kenwoods they give us just don’t last. I’ve been through 2 in the last year. Hopefully I can figure something out from your video. Thanks.

@@AuroraDorealusI work for csx as engineer on huntington division the ones we have is kenwood and trust me xts 3000 is junk compared to the kenwoods the railroad csx provides us I have a radio shop on the side when I have time I still sell Motorola radios and software ect. Look me up I’ll send you what ever software you need csx also has p25 across the entire system as well

@@hellapellanyc6465yes as long as the system is phase 1 p25 trunks if it’s phase 2 trunkimg then no I live in WV and it shows in radio reference my state system as phase 2 but at bottom it say only 90 is still on phase 1 I have 2 3000 scannning the trunked p25
