Every Scot that has travelled has 2 accents. One for home and one for speaking to other cultures. I remember I was in Amsterdam once chilling with some Dutch guys and got a call from a friend back in Scotland. Had a quick chat and hung up. When I looked up, I realized the whole table was silently staring at me. They wanted to know what language I had been speaking.

I am Scottish, my dad talks like this and they way I have always took it is you have to think of the properties and features of each Item for example: Eggshell= Fragile, Vulnerable, Weak Surfboard = Flat and light Lollipop = also Flat and light so I guess way too control, no weight behind them. (It's hard for me to tell because there is no context). Turnip = like a vegetable = stupid Teeth like a burnt fence = Brown-Black teeth Peanut head = Peanuts are small = smallest head = small minded Head like a Gobstopper = Big headed. Face like a Salmon = Pink, red, Blushed (face). I guess I am just used to this because if I hear eggshell, I automatically think he is saying I a sensitive or fragile. Hope that helps you.

Sometimes you can read between the lines and come up with a decent image of what calling someone a ___ would look like. The mental image alone is where the hilarity comes from. Sometimes you just call people something because it sounds funny. Either way the idea is to come up with a better comeback than your friends until one of you breaks and starts laughing, and that means you've lost xD This verbal sparring begins during childhood, and the training never ends. It's the reason I believe Scottish people are among the most witty nations on earth.

I've lived in England my whole life and I still have a hard time understanding people from and around Glasgow which I believe some of them are from. Other areas of Scotland are a lot easier to understand and have less slang terms in them (such as Edinburgh).

I'll enlighten you into the philosophical mind of a Scots man. We shit on each other from the first time we speak and call our dad mama. We develop Shakespearean esque layering in our banter formed over many years. Eg, take surfboard, ask what is it in its self. It just floats around and is of no use unless someone with direction keeps them under heel and tells them exactly what to do. Next insult was lollipop, again in its self. It might look good but at the end of the day it makes everyone suck and if he remains in the team we will all end up with teeth missing.😂😂😂
