Darkseid is one of the most powerful villains in comic history

If you think about it, the way, how man buried the box instead of putting it in a fortress like the rest of them, it was harder to find. They found everyone else’s because it was like a beacon for them in their fortress, but for man hiding it, burying it in the ground. No one would know where it would be.

As I'm sure other commenters have pointed out the Snyder Cut IS the original version, NOT the one released in 2017. Pretty much everything was already shot and filmed but didn't completely finish in terms of post-production for the effects and whatnot. The only that was added was Nightmare stuff. Tom Holkenborg/Junkie XL also had original music made for the film until Zack had to leave due his daughter's death and then they got Danny Elfman to do the music for the 2017 version instead. While not super terrible, his music just did not fit within this universe at all. Junkie XL basically chose redo the music all after they gave Zack the greenlight to complete their vision and we were not disappointed. I kind of had wondered what the music was originally going to sound like afterwards. I hope to hear them one day!

I’ve heard so many say that Man did a shitty job with their box, but can I just point out that both the Amazons and Atlantean’s were the first to loose their boxes. Steppanwolf literally drops right into the Amazons defences and because the Atlanteans we’re guarding there’s he could extract the location and layout of there defences. But because Man buried there’s and probably killed everyone who helped to bury it no one could lead the enemy to it or be tempted to use it.

I'm also still in total awe of how Steppenwolf looks here to this day. Much better than the 2017 version. They brought back his look from Batman v Superman. I love that not only is Steppenwolf's armor looks super badass but the fact that its alive too! I liked that it reacts to whatever mood he is in. What an amazing attention to detail. Loved that this time, he felt more like a scary beast and an actual threat. He didn't mess around either! Dude was kicking ass. Another thing I respect is that his reasons for doing what he's doing is alot more understandable here. He truly regretted what he did and was trying to redeem himself. You can see alot of emotions in his face. Like at one point, he looked like he was going to cry. I felt so bad for Steppenwolf. All he's trying to do is go back home. If that's not relatable and understandable, I don't know what is LOL.

Everyone makes fun of man just burying the box in a hole. But that one was the hardest to find!

HBO Max wanted 4 hours for their streaming service so that’s why alot was packed into this version. Also Zack wanted all the people who were cut from the 2017 movie to get paid in full for their work so he made sure to include people like Cyborgs mother, the sweater sniffing singers at the beginning, the poor lady who Cyborg gave money to after she was evicted, Ryan Choi character who in the comics is The Atom, among others. This cut could easily be reduced to a 3 hour movie or 2 hours and 45 minutes for a movie release.

Christopher Nolan told Zack Snyder not to watch Joss Whedon’s version because it would break his heart, Chris Nolan got Zack Snyder the Man of Steel job so he’s not only a producer but a really good friend

Cyborg got the shine he deserves in this Cut, making him the most important character of the story! Let's just say that Whedon and Cyborg's actor didn't see eye to eye, it was a whole thing

Amazing movie, sad that WB didn't let Snyder cook and caused the mess we have forever.

Yeah, Christopher Nolan wanted Zack Snyder to direct Man of Steel and take over DC films after Nolan's trilogy. Nolan was also an Executive Producer in Man of Steel plus he wrote it with David Goyer, Zack was just the Director in MoS. Nolan basically brought Zack into the DCEU.

Minute 25:06 they are the Ancient Greek Gods Zeus, Aries God of War and The Goddess Artemis Goddess of the Hunt, ancient green lantern Amazon Warriors, the people from Atlantis and the first tribes of men, all fighting together for Humanity. Love this scene.

People can binge a show in a day but can't sit through a 4 hour film

I am glad you like this cut so far, but just so you know, it wasn't that long ago that movies were often 3+ hours long and had intermissions in the middle. I was raised on films that long in length, and the only reason movies got cut down in length is because studios wanted to sell more tickets per day in showings, so they started getting shorter and shorter, and people's attention spans adjusted to match. I much prefer a film that takes its time to tell a good story, than a 90 minute ADD-fest. I hope that someday we can evolve back to longer film content, just like they used to be.

Laugh all you want, but remember the Mother Box hidden by Man was the last to be retrieved.

The Age of Heroes battle honestly looks as epic and awesome as the opening to The Fellowship of the Ring! Also I absolutely loved when the little girl said “Can I be like you?” And Diana said, “You can be whatever you want to be.” That is such an important message to young girls out there.

The theory with men simply burying their box is they did that because they did not trust each other to guard it, that they would eventually succumb to its power. So they rather burried it and hoped we would forget in time where it is.

There were plans to do a Cyborg movie. Then, Cyborg was originally going to be in The Flash movie. But, then all that stuff came out between Ray Fisher and WB and all that stuff got axed. I always thought that WB was too much in a rush to beat the MCU with 1 movie and they wanted Batman V Superman to be that movie, but BvS was originally going to be just Man of Steel 2, written by David Goyer. Did you know that back before Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, there were plans for a Justice League movie and casting was done for it? That is a whole different story in itself. If I remember correctly, I think David Ayer said that originally, those parademons (which, you are correct were in Batman's dreams in BvS), were also going to be in Suicide Squad. In the BvS Ultimate Edition, there is a scene where Lex sees Steppenwolf or at least a vision of him. Also, at the end of BvS when Lex goes "crazy" and keeps repeating to Batman that he's coming, he was talking about Darkseid. Honestly, as a cinephile, I think it is a worthwhile study of cinema just to go back and see the theatrical version again, if anything, just for the sake of doing a deep dive film comparison and learning about different directorial styles and also learn a lot about how much film editing can change a movie. It will also make you mad at just how much WB and Whedon changed the movie and how much they cut out and reshot, which then almost tripled the budget and made it almost impossible for the movie to make any profit. The crazy thing is that this Snyder version of the movie already existed and he just shot 1 new scene for the post-credit during the pandemic at his house and I think some new ADR was done too, but basically everything was already done back in 2016. Apparently, WB wanted to fire Zack Snyder from Justie League long before his daughter's suicide, which made Snyder walk away anyway. Then, WB also lied about Snyder hand-picking Whedon to take over for him. Then WB also kept denying there ever was a Snyder cut in the first place and that the theatrical version was about 80% Snyder's footage, which was definitely not true at all. Jason Mamoa even stated he had seen the Snyder version, back when WB was still lying and insisting it never existed. The irony is that even if Whedon had just stitched together some of the original footage into a 2 hour movie (WB insisted on 2 hours, which is crazy, IMO, and Snyder rightfully so, laughed at the notion of a 2-hour JL movie), without reshooting anything, that butchered movie version still would have still made a good profit. But, it was the reshoots that doomed the movie's profitability from the start and all the stuff Whedon reshot to make the movie more light-hearted and more of a Whedon movie and over-saturated with color ruined the movie. It then became a weird hybrod of 2 different director's visions that did not mesh well at all. Honestly, I did still enjoy the theatrical version of JL and did not think it was total trash like some others did. BUT, after seeing this Snyder Cut, I honestly cannot get myself to ever see the theatrical version ever again. When I saw the theatrical version, I did see it 3 times in theaters and did love it much more than The Last Jedi, which came out around the same time. But, even then, that theatrical version definitely felt like a freaky hybrid vision. I honestly did not even blame Joss Whedon at the time, but blamed WB for throwing Snyder under the bus (ever since BvS came out, which WB also changed from Snyder's original 4-hour cut) and causing all their own DCEU problems with their own studio interference. If Whedon had made his own JL movie from scratch without having to deal with a super-tight deadline and having to integrate somebody else's footage, then I think it may have been pretty good. BUT, after all the stuff that then started coming out in ensuing months about Whedon's bad, hateful attitude towards the cast and badmouthing Snyder every chance he could and just all-around being an a**hole, including threatening Gal Gadot's career, I am not a Whedon fan anymore.

It sucks because the 2017 cut not only took some parts of the original cut but it heavily altered and changed other things for the worse

Honestly if you watch Man Of Steel, BvS: Ultimate Edition and then the Snyder Cut of Justice League, it’s a solid trilogy. Not perfect but really darn good.

Steppenwolf, who led the parademons, looked WAY different in Whedon's 2017 Justice League. This version is so MUCH better looking. Night and day difference. For one, the horns were part of his helmet in the theatrical Whedon version. Here, the horns are a part of HIM. Making him truly alien. Among other physical differences. -OG

the format is because the film was shot for IMAX , and Zack Snyder decided to release the film as is, without cutting the top and bottom of the screen because it would cut too much off the scene, he filmed the JL members to fit the screen so theyd appear larger and fill out the negative areas in the screen. so he left it that way

A little thing you need to know. In that "Earth's warriors fight away the Invasion" memory Diana tells Bruce, they aren't fighting Darkseid. That is his younger self, Uxxas. Later on he becomes Darkseid. And if you need a Power Scale of how powerful Darkseid is: He could wipe the floor with Thanos and Thanos wouldn't even realise he got killed.

I don't know if it's just because I had an off day at work earlier today or because I really love the message this movie gives, or maybe a combination of the two, but this is the first time I've actually cried while watching it. With you two. So thank you for that

This movie is absolutely terrific. Just sucks that they setup a sequel that will never get made.

Christopher Nolan is actually a close friend of Snyder’s and supporter of his films and was one of the two ppl who told Snyder not to watch the theatrical cut of Justice League. The other person was Snyder’s wife.

43:30 it's funny, when i first heard that Affleck was going to be Batman, i wasn't impressed, i thought he wouldn't be that good. i really was surprised at how good he turned out to be. the Snyder cut is the best option for watching the justice League, it sets up the background for the characters so much better. glad you two checked it out! another great reaction! 👍

Originally DC was suppose to start off with everyone’s solo film starting with Man of steel but WB pushed the issue to fast track everything which is why the next film was BVS they wanted to get more heroes on the screen faster to try and keep up with marvel and that lead to Justice league being the 5th film to release. Now with James Gunn they’re going back to the original plan they had when they made man of steel just with different stories and characters.

" Batman's Dream " was suppose to open the door for an Injustice trilogy. He's not actually Dreaming He's seeing a future that may happen.

As a heads up in that flash back it was a young darkseid before he gained the omega effect which is why he seemed like he was handled easily well he still fought against God's.

The cyborg section turned this movie from amazing to masterpiece

Actually it makes sense that men buried it unlike the Amazon or the Atlanteans, mankind weren't united, they were divided into many people and the leaders of men of that time were fearful that one day one of their descendants would try to use the boxes for their own ends and try to unite them. Hence burying it somewhere and hiding it was better than putting it in some fortress, since nobody would know to look for

I was also surprised watching it My expectation is that this is just the same movie with added deleted scenes (thus the 3 hours runtime) But it looks like they almost reshot 80% of the scene Edit: after reading comments, apparently this is the original shot. The first version is the altered movie

5:40 About the color grading. Yes, it was change in the 2017 version, to be more bright and colorful. And you are talking about the aspect ratio, which Zack Snyder has stated that he loved the look while filming Batman V Superman, because allows him to film more and not be limited by the horizontal aspect of wide format. In his words: "I really started just, compositionally, really falling in love with that concept. [...] Superheroes tend to be, as figures, they tend to be less horizontal. Maybe Superman when he's flying. But when he's standing, he's more of a vertical. Everything is composed and shot that way, and a lot of the restoration is sort of trying to put that back. Put these big squares back." And Anthony is right, Zack's child died, by suicide. He then left the movie to be with his family. Warner Bros bring Josh Whedon, who did BIG changes/omissions and some subtle ones, like shortening scenes to deleting sub-plots and simplifying the final battle. The Snyder Cut is dedicated to his daughter. And fun fact: According to one statement of the Visual Effects supervisor, the executives of WB didn't understand The Flash time travel scene near the end of the movie and was one of the first things that were discarted after Zack Snyder left.

In hindsight, I'm so glad this movie/cut became a reality, because it is infinitely superior to the theatrical abomination. And the 2nd half -- parts 4 + 5 + 6 -- is, in my opinion, outstanding, especially what Flash manages pull off near the end -- pure chills, that scene.

Yes. The parademons you see flying out and attacking the Amazons are the same parademons in Batman's visions in Batman v Superman. -OG

Before the MCU, film had multiple characters introduced in one film and it was done successfully. Everyone doesn’t need an origin film before the big team up if done right. THIS is done right. Superman had a solo that lead to a 2nd film with Batman and introduced WW. Then WW had her origin, but even without that movie, it all leads to this epic film. This IS Cyborgs origin story. Aquaman and Flash are introduced like WW was introduced in BvS and it’s done well because of writing. Then they can have their origins expanded in their solo movies afterwards. It’s totally fine doing it that way. The MCU made a great blueprint but it is not the only way you can have an epic team up movie. Look at Lord of the Rings, Oceans 11, Harry Potter, ect. The problem wasn’t that they didn’t do it like Marvel. The problem is everyone thinks that Marvel way is the only way so you expect anything else to do the same.

The whole story and uproar about the snyder cutt was very huge and to give you guys context on why it was a huge thing then here you can read what basicallly happened: Anthony is basically right, Zack was making this movie (obviously it wasn't going to be this long it was going to be cutt out for the official movie, that's what director's cutts are all about) but his daughter died and he had to step down of the film to be with his family, a very natutal thing to do, and Warner brought Whedon to "finish Zack's vision of the movie", which was a complete lie because the moment Zack was off they not only cutt down stuff but changed the WHOOOLLE movie and characters enterily because they wanted it to be more "marvel like", a thing that Zack always told them that it was stupid because being marvel like is a thing from marvel and trying to be like them is dumb, but they didnd't give a shit and used Wonder woman as fan service, Flash as a stupid comedic relief with nothing else, Aquaman as just a "badass edgy" prototype character, Batman was ridiculous, Superman was cringy, Cyborg's character was butchered and the villain/plot was a joke. They added stuff changed stuff and removed stuff completly to the point that Zack's vision no longer existed which was a thing that EVERYBODY FROM THE CAST HATED, this whole "remodeling process" started months before the movie was out for the world yet again another stupid mistake which led to terrible effects, bad script, bad characters and the movie became a joke. Everybody knew about Zack leaving and them doing reshoots months before the movie was out but nobody knew that it was this bad because the more time passed more details were known to the public which led to a furious uproar of fans screaming to Warner to give us what we were suposed to see in the first place, a thing that many actors and celebrities outside of the cast were supporting because what Warner did was not only disrespectful to Zack but to the entire crew and the way they treated Fisher (Cyborg's actor) was HORRIBLE apparently. So yeah and up to this point Warner just keeps putting his foot infront of itself just to try and catch up to marvel movies instead than going slow and build their story at their rythim, yeah they brougth some good movies like Shazam, Aquaman, Joker and The Batman and i'm not saying that Snyder was the best director because he had lots flaws, my heart belongs to DC but i'm not blind because i can see why batman vs superman was badly recieved but also man of steel is still among my favourite movies of all time, knwoing al of that can still say confidently if Warner just kept giving Zack his freedom then we would be seing something different from marvel that it would have been a breath of fresh air for superhero movies.

But the reason why they focus on this conversation is because this girl would have become the future Wondergirl had Snyder continued his Snyderverse. -OG

For me it is not necessarily something bad they went for MoS, then BvS, then JL (with WW and Suicide Squad in the middle before JL). It doesn't have to be like Marvel. It made it it's own thing. There are more ways to tell stories than going for origin story for each character. Wasn't necessary for Guardians of the Galaxy or Watchmen. The real problem was that they, WB, wanted to be like Marvel after BvS and started to change things, the tone, the mood, and now even wanting a reboot.

I was watching this with my nephew, who has zero patience. Every time it showed another part he would say it was making the movie feel longer. Around part 5 he asked how many parts there were and I said 12! He looked so defeated.

To be fair, the motherbox that man had was the last one to be found so technically speaking they hid it better.

The screen format had a two fold reason. One: Zach Snyder wanted it framed like comic book panels and Two: this is the IMAX format. And this WAS the original Justice League.. before all the reshoots to make it quippy and less dark.

35:50 In the original 1980’s Teen Titans comics Victor still had parts of his legs, arms and lower body intact. So he could still have a full life, marriage and kids. He also had a girlfriend who worked as a therapist to kids with artificial limbs. He would stop by her clinic and be a role model to the children. But over the years whenever his character is retconned they keep whittling away at how much of him is still human.

The three huge people. The one with the lightning and the one with the arrows and the one who hurt Darkseid, they are the Greek gods Zeus, Artemis, and Ares (Wonder Woman's villain). And Darkseid is extremely powerful. It makes sense that an Old God can harm a New God. Though I'm not saying the others couldn't it just is easier to do so with gods on your side.

Lol, the funny part is while you were making fun of men hiding and burying the box ...the Amazons already lost theirs and the Atlanteans lost theirs ... making it their focal point gave it a target so when he came, he knew where to go to gain the boxes again.

I will never watch the 2017 film I would rather watch a 4 hour cut rather than the 2017 one this one will always cannon to me.

Everybody likes to rag on "men" for burying their box, but it was sure easy for Steppenwolf to find and take the Amazon and Atlantis boxes. In this case, security through obscurity seems to have worked best.

Snyder's vision did originally have a 10 year plan laid out like Gunn does now where it wouldve been introducing every single JL character first before their collab film in this timeline: Man of Steel Batman V Superman Wonder Woman Suicide Squad Justice League Shazam Aquaman Cyborg Wonder Woman 2 The Flash Black Adam Justice League 2 Justice League 3 But this whole plan got cancelled since Warner Bros stopped the funding after Joss Wedon's Justice League flopped so hard

what wheldon made in 2017 was odd. he cut many scenes. nearly all of cyborg's scenes were cut including scenes that where in the trailers before Snyder left. He then had many reshoots to try and make it more like a marvel movie, which led to the cgi mouth superman as he couldn't save his mustache for the reshoots. my only complaint with the snyder cut is that it would be better if he did a proper edit. the movie is far longer than needed and many parts could flow better. but that wasn't what he promised so I understand why.

I'm not entirely sure but I think Snyder wanted to make it into two parts that's why there's so much content. Again not entirely sure.

There was going to be a Cyborg movie after this and he was going to be a main part of the flash movie!

The Mother Box Silas Stone had was the box we saw in Wonder Woman in the after credit scene. David Ayer's Suicide Squad originally had Steppenwolf and the Parademons in it. Originally the villain was being controlled by Steppenwolf but he had to change it. Ayer's Suicide Squad is also a much different film. Hopefully we get his version of the film one day.

If Cyborg can launch nukes i think he can cover up what he put in that woman's bank account. 😂

A lot of what in this version was in the trailer for the theatrical version so it looks familiar. Almost all of this was filmed before Snyder had to leave. They filmed new scenes and messed with it a lot.

FYI: Zack Snyder originally had a 214 minute theatrical cut that he was planning to put out. After being pushed out of DC in 2017 and later returning to finish editing his “Cut” for 2021 release, he decided to put EVERYTHING he had into it, which is why the runtime is 4 full hours long. This is technically a Directors cut of his original version which would’ve ran about 3-1/2 hours.

Snyder's daughter died. He and his wife were both on the production of "JL", and they both left to take time to grieve. Wb brought in Joss Whedon to finish the movie. he rewrote the script and shot a bunch of extra footage resulting in a 3-hour movie. The Zack Snyder version cuts out almost 1 hour of Whedon footage and restores 2 hours of original footage to get the 4 hr "Snyder Cut"

I could never get passed how Steffenwolf or Desaad couldn't piece it together that the world that fought back would be the world with the 3 motherboxes. So to find the Motherboxes on Earth and not suspect "this is the planet that fought back" was very far fetched to me.

People are nuts with the Phase 4 hate. Some of the MCU's best content has come in 4... No Way Home, Wandavision, Loki, Shang-Chi, Wakanda Forever and more. All they remember is the ones they don't like.
