The "She does like tuna a lot" was actually an improvised line by Ruby's voice actress Lindsay Jones. They had something else written, but decided to just let her come up with some other lines on her own in the recording booth and that one was the funniest. Apparently one of the other versions Lindsay came up with was "She does like it when I scratch her behind the ears" which is hilarious but I can understand why they didn't go with that one.
@@gh0xttherebel fun fact. Monty gave sun those weapons because he had an unused bit of animation for a previous project that used them and he thought it was cool. They are apparently so awkward to animate that there is only one other fight where he uses them full so far in the series
It's not that it's just a cool weapon, but it's the way they are introduced that is epic. Bo Staff, then nunchucks, then GUNCHUCKS! How can you not like it
Sun (the monkey faunus) is based on Sun Wukong the Monkey King in Chinese myth and Journey to the West. Basically the guy that Goku, Luffy, and like a million other anime protagonists are based on.
@@gh0xttherebel yep yep. It's one of my favorite things about the show. I'll probably be dropping comments about them as you go when new characters are introduced
11:38 "Look at this!" *stare intensifies* XDD Weiss talking to Blake at the end, I took it as, "You don't have to explain yourself to me, your entire backstory. What hurt the most is that you went to talk about it to a total stranger first instead of your teammates." But yes, Weiss, let your girl SPEAK. XD
🤣🤣🤣 Weis is definitely a character that has a lot of development and I’m very intrigued thus far! She could be a little pushy… But she’s letting people talk and hearing their perspectives which is always good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This episode, much like Players and Pieces, gets the best reactions for this season. Particularly because of two things: Sun’s gun-chuks, and Penny’s Badass Mode. Sadly, very few people react to the fact that Roman is skilled enough to hold off both Blake and Sun without a semblance. Just pure fighting skills and his aura for passive defense.
I don't even have a play-by-play today, I was just enjoying :D You get that water! Penny is actually supposed to be wearing a techy backpack thing that her blades come out of, but it didn't turn out great so you can't really tell.
Sun Wukong here based off the actual Son Wukong, yes his weapon is a pair of Double Barreled Sawed off Shotgun Nunchucks that double as a bow Staff. He is unofficially Pimp King of the Faunus.
And the woman who showed up at the end in the dress, did you recognize her voice? That would be Jessica Nigri whom you did a double take when reading the credits. She's also cosplayed as her character before as well. IIRC, there's a (at least one) video of her doing an interview or something at a con where she's dressed as Cinder and speaking in her voice as well.
Funnily enough it's hinted as early as the Black trailer that Blake is a faunus if you pay attention to the lyrics the song's about rising up against human rule, implying being something other than human. It's a nice touch.
And now I get to finish what I was saying about the whole argument with Weiss and Blake, but first there was something I noticed recently that I thought was interesting. You remember that I did criticise Weiss for her overly harsh language towards the White Fang, calling them degenerates and pure evil. The very next episode, Sun calls them a bunch of freaks and a cult, but I don’t know if I’ve heard anyone criticise him as much as Weiss. Since I try to be fair and honest I’ll say it, Weiss AND Sun’s views of the White Fang while kind of right are also far too extreme. And the reasons why are pretty much the same, both lack a lot of context and nuance about the history of the Faunus rights and the White Fang, and how things changed over time. For Weiss, it’s because between her father and the White Fang’s actions, and her own personal issues, she ended up keeping her distance from every Faunus she met, with the exception of Blake. Sun doesn’t really have an excuse, I think he just lacked the intellectual curiosity to be fully informed before he met Blake. Like I said, neither of them are entirely wrong, but they lack a lot of context and nuance, and there’s only one person in both their lives who could give that to them. Now for Blake. The reason why the whole argument with her and Weiss was so stupid, was because it was really about Blake’s denial about how bad the White Fang have become and her own willing participation in it. It’s something that obviously must have been bothering her for a long time, and when she heard Weiss’ extreme views, she had a knee-jerk reaction to defend the White Fang and maybe by extent, her own actions. Deep down though, she knew she was wrong, and when she accidentally outed herself, she couldn’t face her team and own up to what she was a part of, what she had done, and more importantly, how she was trying to be better than she was. So she ran, which was the worst thing she could do because it left her team, including Weiss, not really knowing what to think or how to process this new information. Weiss’ attitude during the search might at first seem like she was being thoughtless and uncaring, or even that she was angry towards Blake, but I realise now that it was just a smokescreen. Weiss was conflicted but she refused to show it, not surprising since during her upbringing she’s had it drilled into her head to keep up appearances and never show “weakness”. However, Weiss was genuinely worried about Blake, but she was also worried about their next meeting, what more damning secrets Blake would have to share. And the conclusion she ended up reaching is it was better if she didn’t know, and if Blake no longer did those things, she’d just be happy if her friend came back home. The feeling is clearly mutual, neither girl wanted to be mad at the other, so Weiss effectively shut down any chance for another argument once Blake confirmed she was no longer with the White Fang. They’ve spent a whole semester living together, they know the other isn’t a bad person, and now they have an opportunity to continue to learn and grow together, as teammates and as friends. Also, at the docks in the aftermath of a fight, and surrounded by strangers was neither the right time or place for them to have a real talk, and I do mean talk. Having an argument with someone isn’t productive because both sides are more concerned with winning said argument instead of learning where the other person is coming from. That’s why conversations are important, getting to know the other person, understand their viewpoint, listening to their experiences, that is how we learn to challenge our own perspectives and grow as individuals and as a society. That is 90% of what activism is, having real conversations with people, getting to know each other, raising awareness on issues, how to bring about change and what said change should look like. It’s a pretty heavy topic, and the writing probably could have been better, especially since the animation in earlier volumes is too limited to really allow the characters to express how they feel through non-verbal cues. It’s hard to show the complexities of characters like Weiss and Blake while mostly relying on their words and tone. Fortunately, the show does improve on that, especially when they switch animation programs after Volume 3, which allowed them to make characters much more expressive, Blake’s cat ears being one of the best parts. Now that I think about it, they are probably mostly hiding them at this point so that they didn’t have to worry about animating them too much. Also, I didn’t say this last time, but Penny is amazing, adorable, wholesome, and one of my favourites, too. At this time, I can neither confirm or deny that Penny is an android… that said, I don’t think there was a single person who didn’t come to that conclusion early on. You arrived there earlier than I did, I thought Penny was just quirky until the fight scene on the docks.
Another very thorough comment that I enjoy! Thank you for taking the time to write this out! I can definitely see both sides of the argument and I agree with a lot of what you said. This does showcase Weiss’ Character development a lot here. A lot of what you said can be directly apply to the real world two. If we can all just listen to each other and talk to one another, a lot of our problems would not be problems. But that’s another topic for a different day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@gh0xttherebel Hey just a heads up, though for future warning - there WILL be comments from people who have VERY strong (and wrong lol) opinions on certain characters and relationships. It's bound to get toxic, unfortunately. That's a big reason why I'm loving this specific comment section on your RWBY videos so far. Excellent people all around so far, just, be prepared. RWBY is a show that unfortunately draws in people who love to hate on it for not meeting their headcanons and going against their predictions. This show loves to subvert tropes, and does so masterfully.
I’m hesitant to even comment this because MAJOR SPOILERS!!! . . . . . . But I mean, Sun is a faunus. He’s from Vacuo but went to school in Mistral. He definitely has a different perspective from Blake but to pretend he never faced the same prejudice all faunus do is ignoring pretty much everything we know about the other kingdoms. To him, his view on the White Fang could be a mix of how he feels as a faunus outside of it and how non faunus talk about and treat faunus because of the actions of the WF.(Which is a sign of discrimination in and of itself later on when the media continually names the WF & Adam and doesn’t name any of the others until after volume 5 and the countless moments when they show even the other villains don’t really respect the faunus or their cause at all) Even when everybody distrusts Atlas after volume 3 it’s never, “Look at how they’ve treated the faunus all these years, what do they expect?” It’s “They might attack us with robots.” Even Weiss’ “character development” that everyone keeps talking about isn’t actually THAT impressive. And I don’t think it’s Weiss’ fault. The fandom has time and time again shown they don’t want to actually have a convo about racism and want to ignore the parallels to irl racism to the faunus discrimination in the story. People in this fandom hate Jacques because he’s abusive to Weiss(which Weiss essentially pins on the faunus in volume 1- she blames them for Jacques coming home angry when Jacques is an abusive douche on his own), not because he’s this world’s version of a multimillionaire that doesn’t care about half his kingdom’s population(Mantle) and has made money off of abusing faunus labor. There’s countless times this fandom has said things like “I don’t get why the faunus are so upset. It doesn’t look like they’re being actively discriminated against.” because a lot of the fans also don’t want to acknowledge the obvious micro aggressions irl and only read “real” racism as slavery, segregation, active violence, etc. (even though there’s definitely a few times in the modern timeline where multiple kingdoms allow no faunus signs at establishments-establishments where we’re supposed to dislike the owners but not the average people that see that segregation and still give the place moneeyyy). Having them have an argument about it after the fact would at least be something. The show’s discussion on discrimination already 100% lacks nuance and so does the fandom’s take on it most of the time. The writing is not great, and I’m pretty sure they’ve admitted to this, as the story was mostly written by two white guys who had no idea how to approach the topic. So they just generally don’t, except to sprinkle in “the white fang is really bad and we’re not gonna talk about why they might be justifiably angry” (to the point that by the time we get to Adam’s character short everyone hates him so much that they ignore that a group of humans were actively shooting guns at faunus for trying to pass down a road like 2 years prior maybe) and “awwe aren’t blake’s non faunus teammates so understanding of her unique and solitary form of discrimination and how she may have to deal with some of that trauma near people like her for a minute?” And honestly, that’s not all the writers’ fault because the World of Remnants where Qrow talks about the kingdoms don’t paint any of the kingdoms in a flattering light and from his tone you can tell he thinks the faunus got shorted in being given Menagerie. But this fandom chooses which characters they like and dislike and why and has a big problem admitting to it. And also stops reactors from bringing it up by automatically defending Weiss and her character development that hasn’t even had the chance to happen yet in the comments before they even get to volume 2.
My buddies had me watch Rwby with them for the first time last year. The part when the staff turns into nunchucks had me going crazy, coolest animated thing I've seen.
11:20 She was the Terraprisma from Terraria😂 For clarifacation, the terraprisma is a weapon in terraria that summons swords that hang off your back and strike any nearby enemies
this technically isnt a penny-is-a-robot reveal, just a modelling failure. she wasnt meant to use her weapon (backpack) until volume 3, so the rig wasnt ready yet
it wasn't that she wasn't supposed to use her weapon. Monty just went overboard on the Rule-of-cool. Shane Newville kept egging Monty on to make the fight more and more crazy. Miles and Kerry tried to reign it in but it still ruined the actual reveal in V2.
Weiss is pretty much universally hated by most people in the beginning. I think I'm the only one I know who liked her from the start. While she leaves a pretty bad first impression that also means she has the most room/potential for growth.
And I’m here for it!!! I definitely can see how people dislike her just like I did but I wanted to make sure that I don’t have that perception throughout the entire series because I know with eight volumes of the show, change has to be throughout it
Weiss' growth as a character is perhaps one of my favorite character growth stories in media. I genuinely love how soft she's become. Trust me, stick with RWBY and you'll see just how far they've all come!
Herein is the catalyst of EVERYTHING. Oh, if you think Cinder is...fire now, she'll have you feelin some type of way whenever she's on screen from now on.
Doesn't this woman with the glowing eyes look familiar? ; ) Remember, in the first chapter, the woman in the red dress with the glowing eyes in the aircraft using magic to fight Glynda...? I forgot to mention earlier; remember in chapter 14 (after Jaune kills the Ursa) Pyrrha discussing semblances? Watch Blake carefully as she is fighting Roman. Sometimes, when she dodges, she leaves behind an image of herself to distract her opponent as she moves out of the way of an attack. This semblance is often referred to as her 'Shadow Clone'.
So Qrow......recall back from From Ch.1: Ozpin: It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow... Ruby: (mumbles through her full mouth) Oh! That's my uncle! (she then swallows and wipes her mouth, embarrassed) Sorry. That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like- Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa! (proceeds to make some karate-style poses and noises)
It was so refreshing to rewatch rwby after so long and I love your reactions! I’ll definitely be following up with when you do season 2 because it’s so fun to watch! Especially the fight scenes!
I think gh0xttherebel wins BEST NEW RWBY REACTOR 2022 ... a FNDM award I just made up. ;-) Look forward to your enjoyment of the remaining volumes, you're in for a heck of a ride....
YAAYY WE MADE IT TO THE FINALE OF VOL 1 I CANT WAIT FOR YOUR REACTIONS TO VOLUME 2 AND THE OST XD also also, because of the budget for the 1st volume it was a little hard for the team to animate Penny as much as they wanted so quick fyi Penny's back actually didnt open up (like you, I and a gazillion of other people assumed) but it's actually a book bag LOL you can see the straps around her arms. I saw someone else in the comments already mention Penny's allusion so that would also explain the strings attached to her blades (although you'll really get a hint of who her allusion is in the next volume so let's see if you pick it up 😉) I cant wait for next Friday!!!!
I love her character so far and it’s so funny how we all thought they were coming out of her back but it was actually supposed to be a bag🤣🤣🤣 That’s a cool mistake in my opinion but I can’t wait to see much more of her in the next volume!
Favourite moment? I’m torn between gun-chucks and “Is she a man?” lol. Looking forward to next week, since the next chapter has one of the most fun fights in the show… Not necessarily the best, but yeah, really fun ^_^ You’ll see the budget upgrade too… Sadly, the shadow people get killed off between now and then…. RIP shadow people… In between volumes it might be good to listen more closely to the songs and maybe read the lyrics… Did you already react to some? I forget… If you feel up to it, RWBY fans like to see reactions and breakdown the meanings and such… Many of the songs relate to characters and such and give a bit more insight… Either way, I recommend checking the songs out, because most of them are worth looking at lol.
Every video: "Why do I still have these on!" 🤣 You're too hilarious, bro! Not sure if anyone has told you this (they probably have, but I don't feel like looking through over 100 comments), but most (probably all) of the characters are based on a famous person from myth/legend/history/fairy tales except that they're often gender-swapped from the original version. I know you're already on volume 6, so people have probably told you who is based on who
🤣🤣🤣 I wish I could roll with that name throughout the show! But I know I’m going to get a lot of comments to help me stop saying it. Who knows, I might just keep calling him that ;)
@@gh0xttherebel you'll be flying out of your seat with these songs especially the one give you background on the story to me all of them hell ma amazing
2:42 "That new (white fang) leader backstory has to be insane." Flashforward to Volume 5 where she gets killed off in a record 3 minutes of total screen time with not a drop of backstory outside of the fact that she was the leader after Blake's dad stepped down.
