I’m not into soap operas. However, I think that, hands down, The Young and The Restless has one of the top 5 best opening credits in the history of television period. I could look at these over and over and NEVER get bored!
This brings back memories of my beloved grandma faithfully watching this show I'd say 1975-1984 all through my childhood.. Would always see the opening theme, we all miss her still now she passed in 2005 at age 93. Miss ya gram❤❤❤❤
The 70's and 80's were hands down the golden era of TV, music and entertainment. This timeless masterpiece opening credit has to be one of the best ever and just re-enforces that. The 1999 theme strayed way too far off and modernized it too much. Thankfully they went back the better original version thereafter.
This was not bad at all ; as I watching the theme openings through the 50 years I don't remember the beginning in 1973 since I was only about five but around 1978 and going forward into the 80's and beyond is when I remembered the openings.
Thanks for posting this. The Y&R intro is the most beautiful and haunting music I've ever encountered. As a musician, it evokes such emotion. It sends you on a journey.
As a kid, I never really cares for the show itself, or at least the storyline; but what I do remember, is the beautiful theme song (including the jazz version, 92 baby here), as well as just how beautiful all of their houses looked. (I SOOOO wanted to live in one of their houses!!)
Rest in paradise to the legends that has made Y&R as it is today and made me as a diehard fan of this awesome series: Jeannie Cooper Jerry Douglas Kristoff St. John among others
Billy Miller Meg Bennett Marla Adams Michelle Thomas Paul Walker Jay Bontatibus Andrea Evans Jennifer Leak Roscoe Born Terrence McNally Marguerite Ray Quinn Redeker Michael Tylo Terry Lester Beau Kayzer Sharon Acker Brett Hadley Nick Benedict Sharon Farrell Sally Kellerman Nichelle Nichols Robert Clary Diane McBain Christopher Bennock Eddie Mekka & The legends who have made this show Lee Phillip Bell & William J. Bell
@@machineguy97You forgot Eddie Mekka was in Laverne and Shirley and Paul Walker was in the fast and the furious. The same with Michelle Thomas in Family Matters.
1:28 Melody Thomas Scott as Nikki Reed and Eric Braeden as Victor Newman, 1:46 Terry Lester as Jack Abbott and Jerry Douglas as John Abbott, 1:47 Eileen Davidson as Ashley Abbott, 1:49 Beth Maitland as Traci Abbott, 1:54 Lauralee Bell as Christine Blair, 1:56 Jeanne Cooper as Katherine Chancellor
This is a great compilation! Being a portrait artist, my favorite is the '84-'88 years of the Sandy Dvore sketches. They're so moody, atmospheric, and with simplicity capture the essence of each character. Plus, we can't forget that Dvore's logo, established then, is still in use today!
Shame this series never really took off in the UK as it is a quality daytime soap. The only "era" I saw was between 1987 and 1990 on Sky One, which is the set of titles with the roman type face and semi-animated head shots. I remember Michael Damien (?), who was a singer being prominent in these episodes. Sky said it was too expensive to buy any more episodes! It changed to lesser known TV channels and sadly hasnt aired here for nearly 15 years. It is the opening and theme tune that attracted me to this series. I love it. And I still listen to it occasionally on here. Happy 50th Anniversary Y&R from the UK!
I’ve only been watching Y&R for almost two months now and I must say that the show and it’s opening credits wouldn’t be the same without any of it’s beloved characters, especially Victor Newman, Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott.
TYATR theme song, IMO is the best soundtrack of all the soaps. So touching. I vividly remember hearing this theme as a kid in the 70s while my mom watched.
I love this music . It makes me feel cozy inside .the string section of the young and the restless music, just sounds so warm and cuddly . Does this relate to anyone.
My grandparents soap was "The Young and the Restless". In the 90s, I would rush home from high school and tune into "All My Children". I feel the theme for All My Children and Young and the Restless are fairly iconic themes. You hear them and instantly know the shows they are connected to.
Wow! Y&R has been on CBS my whole life and I'm 44 now! I remember my mom and grandmother use to watch this back when I was a little boy in the early 80s and my mom still watches it to this day! Can't believe Victor and Nikki are still on the show, they're such legends!
It triggers memories for everyone of a given time in American past. For me it triggers memories of the 70s and 80s when the America of that time was so different from today, no one born in 1980 or later would really understand or if they went back in time, they'd sear they were in a very different nation because it was. I enjoyed the 90s too. 70s-90s. Seems like yesterday, All in the Family was on or even Charmed or Star Trek Voyager with our first female Captain, Janeway. As an old gay male, I miss a lot of things & this brings back memories. I'm terminally ill now but it brings comfort to hear the theme song. Thanks for putting it up.
I live in Europe, in Itally this show was called "Febbre d'amore"= Fever of Love. And in germany it was called "Schatten der Leidenschaft"= Shadows of desire/ Shadows of passion :-) ;-)
Wow this Theme is Always So Calming to me despite Invoking a Set of Traumatic Memories for me. Which was when o was a Kid and had to make regular visits to my Family Doctor’s Office in some Government Building. Oh yeah I could Remember it like I’ve just been there I could Still Remember walking on to the nearest elevators. And taking it it up to the Fifth Floor and Getting Off and making our ways along a Long and Quite aside from that Dreaded Typewriter and Empty Hallway to the Doctor’s Office. And I would know when we’re getting close as the closer we got the Loader that Dreaded Typewriter Became. And when we entered it wasn’t better and for some reason The Young And The Restless Both Invoked that memory and at the same time Calmness. Like I’ve just said I don’t know how I’ve connected those two. But a little bit of side note I just wished they would stop casting kids that give off that Disney Sitcom Vibe to them. But the Happy News is I’m so Glade that I was able to Watch The Young And The Restless’s 50th Anniversary Special Series of episodes. To which by the way almost Feels like a Completely Deferent Show. In Particular when it came to the Red Carpet Scenes, to which Feels like a series of Entertainment News Segments. Along with the characters that are in the scenes.
3:12 1999-2003 They were really trying to market themselves to the success of The Bold and the Beautiful, which was hugely popular. Y&R had a reputation for being more of a slow burn that presented itself as a bit “high brow.” The Bold and the Beautiful was more hot, spicy, and fun. B&B was easier for casual viewers to understand and appeared to people just looking for a short escape rather than diving into a novel. B&B reminded me more of the telenovela style and it often embraced how ridiculous it was.
I remember my gradeschool years in the mid/late 70s, and our class would watch those life-lessons short films and their introduction theme music had to be influenced by TY&tR theme.
The only time they differ from the iconic Botkin/De Vorizon arrangement was the 1999 red carpet opening, before going back to tried and true (the 1984 remix of it however) ever since. Otherwise they stuck with the Cotton's Dream/Nadia's Theme while so many others changed their themes over the years.
This Music is from 1971 Movie Bless The Beast and Children. It is called “Cotton’s Dream” written by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Boykin Jr. Then in 1976 …The Summer Olympics..It turned into Nadia’s Theme for Nadia Comaneci. Which became a huge hit..and everyone recorded their own version of Cotton’s Dream..including Henry Mancini. This is the Original Incidental Music for Bless the Beast and Children…ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h_Kc2NlFMHo.htmlsi=POWh6vGCt6_PLM-1
Got hooked on YR when I was in High School and would come home and watch after weight lifting in the mornings during the summer. Fun to watch the drama while 'pumped up'!
They need to update the credits soon, cause I am not feeling it. It's too dark themed. I think it would be good to go back to the late 80s early 90s white theme again, with LOTS of vaseline on the lens because the hi-def cameras they use today are not flattering to anyone. That winter white background was giving everything, and the wind machine just elevated it.
Y&R actually had a live orchestra pit on set in the earlier years, that’s why their scores from the early 70’s were so beautiful and by the time the 80’s came they pretty much-recorded their background scores.
Im turning into my mother. She used to kick me and my brother's out of the house all days to eatch this. Now at 34, i wanna know why this show is wo hype after 40 years!? Edit: I remember some of these intros as a kid/early teen 😂
with the long time y and r had run with it be funny and seeing jack and victor had wars and battles too, and with marring too, both men be rich and powerful too,
I loved it when they would show the opening of Y and R ,have a short pause and then show the sponsor(s) before the episode happens. Now it usually has a sponsor on the first ad after part of it happens.Any chance they could do the show like they used to?
I know the person in the dress walking in the ones from 2003-2022 is Phyllis, but who are the two people walking in the 50th anniversary intro at the beginning Edit: apparently it’s not actually Phyllis. My mom didn’t know lol
I absolutely love every single opening of Y&R, from the earlier opening with the sketch drawings to more jazzier sound opening in the late 90s to the 50th year opening starting with the legacy characters like Diane Jenkins and Jack Abbott and ending with Nikki Reed Newman and Victor Newman, I absolutely love it all, fantastic! ❤️🤍🥂
This has been my mother's soap ever since she came to Canada in the late '70s. I've always thought the theme song was the classiest out of the soaps i've ever seen (though I will say Santa Barbara's theme is my all-time favorite) Anyways, thanks for posting this evolution of the opening theme.
My mom (rip mom) usecto watch Y&R sunce day one. I was a young whipper snapper back then. (54 now), i remember all of these theme sings. Beings back great memories sitting with my mom watching this great series. Miss her 😢
The intro from 2003-2012 pulls me back to that time, to where I lived, what I was doing. During bouts of unemployment, and waiting to get a call for an interview or a temp job but almost glad that I didn't have any work to stay home and indulge myself in this show! I was also young (kind of) and restless (well, mostly lazy lol). I just enjoyed this time with my husband and my dog, where we lived. Great memories.
