In this new series, "Bike Shops in Japan", I'll be going to different bicycle shops around Japan and introducing their product lineup, services, location, and any other unique points.
This video is party 2 of our visit to Y's Road in Nagoya (ワイズロード名古屋), where we visit their second building which focuses on Cycle Wear (ウェア館). Y's Road is a mega bicycle retailer chain in Japan, with locations in all of the major cities.
Their lineup of bicycles is massive, with lots of major brands in stock like Cannondale, Bianchi, Scott, BMC, De Rosa, Trek, and more! They also have a very large stock of various parts, including stems, handlebars, accessories, tools, etc. Almost anything you need you can find here.
This bike shop is actually split into two parts, the main bike shop, and then the cycle wear and other goods shop. They are both part of the same main building, but you will need to walk outside and around to the entrance to the second building.

Sayaka was really entertaining. Really want to see a follow up if she buys a bike and how she gets on with it. Also really cool to get an insight into Japanese bike shops and the brands that are big over there. I’ve been wondering for a while about the market over there and whether any Japanese brands are competing with the worldwide ones. Maybe you covered that before. I heard about the channel from Victor but I didn’t start watching until now really because I didn’t think I had the time for another favourite channel. But I’ll just have to make time because I’m really enjoying it. Sorry to hear about your wife’s visa issues. It’s really unfortunate.

I have a Kask Protone helmet, fits perfect, the giro Synth someone mentioned is a good one as well. Great channel and good timing on the bike shop tour as I will be traveling to Tokyo, August 22nd and it will be my first time ever in Japan! I enjoy your channel, it would be fun to ride around Nagoya with you but, looks like you will be traveling as well Thinking of bringing my helmet, shoes, pedals and kit, maybe I could hook up with a bike ride/tour or something. Sayaka seems awesome, keep her in the vlogs and your wife too! Take her to Rapha in Osaka or Tokyo. :) $$$

Ortlieb equipment is top grade....didn't know they made bicycle equipment....but the motorcycle bags are excellent....pricey but great stuff!

As you said in your reply on the previous video is that bikes in Japan are more expensive. But I wonder, do they have budget cyclingwear there? Over here you can get shirts for as cheap as what would be around 200-250 yen. Not the best quality but it seemded like in Japan it starts around 600-700 yen?

there's nothing that cheap here.. you can find some good deals in some used markets though.. and there's always online ordering from China..

For beginner helmet, get the Specialized Echelon II. The strap adjustment is easy. Not expensive. Doesn't look too race aero that marks you out as a bike geek.

I agree. I looked at other options to replace my old one but it just came back to the fixed straps being so easy and comfortable. It’s a great helmet for the price.

I vote Giro Synthe. It's pricey but there seem to be good discounts online for less popular graphics/colors. And it has a touch of old school styling, like those leather "bump caps" you were looking at. Performance wise, all of the newer, high end offerings are getting harder to tell apart. Aesthetics and price point become the deciding factors.

The concept of wearing wearing a bib-skirt combination is quite interesting as a lot of women show their legs underneath a super short skirt like in very few other cultures. My favorite helmet is the Catlike Vacuum, and Catlike helmets in general. The Vacuum has a superb airflow like no other helmet I've own before. Unfortunately it went out of production recently😞. The vents look like the gills of a shark. When you ride it looks like a shark biting your head. My next helmet is going to be the Catlike Mixino. Also very good ventilated and optionally you can buy a pre-shaped hard cover, which saves your head from rain and freezing cold temperatures.

Yeah, it makes no sense since it doesn't actually cover anything, but Japan is really into skirts.. Even bowling center staff will wear skirts.. The catlike designs are really interesting.. I've never ridden one before, but I am curious about how that airflow feels..

Two Wheel Cruise Interesting...but it looks cute, that's for sure😉. Catlike helmets are mainly known from road bike races (the ones that look like a golf ball) and always have a very unique look. I bought my first Vacuum after having read a helmet test in a German mountainbike magazine. It was the only helmet capable of cooling down the scull temperature by -0,5 celsius. On fast rides you can feel how the air flows around your scull as a single unit. I have no experience with the Mixino, though.

Two Wheel Cruise Well you're right about the skirt attachments when it comes to serious sportive cycling. A road cyclist with baggy shorts would look strange as well. But the skirts would be a good alternative for casual trips and commuting though. So I guess a Catlike helmet is the one to be added to your shopping cart next😉. Even during the insanely hot summer we have this year in Germany (up to 39 Celsius), I feel the cooling effect of the airflow.

the leather strap helmet is a Retro item, worn by Track racers in the 1960/70's, their is a famous picture of Merckx wearing one.

A leather hairnet !! That's what we used to call them when I raced in the 70's..... down here in Florida we used to put cabbage leaves under them in the summer to keep cool. Kinda worked, but made you smell like sauerkraut at the end of a long ride......

WHatever helmet you get, I'll recommend you get one with MIPS. If you for some reason haven't heard if it, a group of researchers studied crashes and figured out that when your head hits the ground, it starts rotating, and that rotation can apparently do lots of damage to your brain. So MIPS is a thing that makes the helmet rotate around your head without the head rotating. Most brands have MIPS helmets.

erxu if they are or not, its not addressed on here and I don't appreciate you bringing that up on my reply to his video. This type of talk can bring un-needed and unwanted stress. All Cruise is trying to do is make a fun and interesting video for us. A video with 2 ppl is more interesting than just him walking around a shop talking by himself.

Thank you for sharing, interesting content. Cycling being the new golf, there is a lot of money pouring in the marketplace. MAMILs (middle-age men in Lycra, as described poetically by Rapha CEO in an interview with The Guardian) are willing to spend a fortune and a half to go faster, get lighter and look like a pro. All brands, mainstream and niche, are equally happy to sell basic jerseys for USD100+ apiece. Technical clothing sends you close or above a couple of hundreds. I bought my Giro Foray (267 grams) on Wiggle for USD50, a great bargain and a perfect fit. Looking forward to your next vlog.

I'm really appalled at how expensive cycling clothes and accessories are in Canada. My only option is to order online directly from China. Better deals and endless options to be had there. We have very few stores like Y.

For bike shoes you can purchase from zappos.com. I purchased Shimano sh-me3. The customer service is the best and the return exchange policy is so easy. I purchased the shoes and the shoes did not fit me, so I made exchange and i’m happy with the size right now . They also have a good deals and discounts . Give it a try. Have fun !
