Apparently not. Furthermore, what Black women do with our hair as a way to express our personality and ensemble is our prerogative. I can still wear sister locks, goddess braids, justice braids, cornrows, sleek ponytail, and silk press if I choose. These looks are either ethnic or short-term although some styles are using hair extensions. Wearing a weave is different because it's psychological. It certainly promotes an eurocentric beauty standard. A Black woman going to a hair boutique to buy hundreds of dollars of bundles, to get that hair sewn-in for months, meticulously styling that dead hair while usually neglecting her own hair can be attributed to self-hate particularly when she's repeating this process without breaks. I definitely think the wigs are worse because she's damaging the front and nape of her hair with glue. If I go to the hair salon every now and then for a blow out or silk press that lasts roughly 2-3 days before my texture returns, I wouldn't accuse myself or other Black women for wanting to emulate White women.

Damn I was almost sold. I once saw a video about a Japanese guy interviewing black residents there and they never once complained about racism.

Asian culture isn't confrontational. So the racism isn't in your face. However, racism is very prevalent here. That person might be living in a bubble. Because an individual hasn't experienced or perceived to have experienced racism doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'm privileged to be working in education so people tend to be more civil in my industry. However, I have African friends who experience racism in Asia on a daily.@@yoshimutsu
