Totally agree with this comment. Kpop does not represent every part of South Korea. There is a huge feminism movement where girls are tearing down the beauty standards of korea and trying be themselves. Totally opposite from kpop image.

Her image and sound are very, very different from popular Korean music and that's why I love this. Makes this a lot more interesting than the vast majority of K-Pop currently coming out of Korea. Keep doing your thing and being yourself.
There are a lot of indie musicians in Korea like America has. It shows quite different mood for sure ;) more like creative and challenging trials than common Kpop

Judging based of what I saw in Korea when I lived there... it makes me happy to see tomboy, or queen woman living happy. It’s rare to see any diversity in female energy there. In a country where beauty standards are so high and everyone is trying to look the same. I truly appreciate this.

theFareulookinat yeah the only thing that links this to trap is a few recurring sounds in the beat which are commonly found in trap beats. People don't know what they're talking about when it comes to music 90% of the time and just fall back on buzzwords.

Call Me Soul I think you misunderstand... what 2tone described as cliche is what we see in the current gen which just looks fake with all the ridiculous body jewelry, tattoo obsessions and whatnot like there's a need to compensate for something. Yaeji here isn't being flashy and still makes good music, like how it was in the 80's to late 90's when artists just put on their everyday clothes when they recorded videos which, combined with a more positive message to the people and good sounds served as part of the core that made hiphop what it was. Being able to tell the difference between which is authentic or counterfeit does not make someone a hipster or a wannabe one for that matter.

Your Bro they are just about the same in English and Korean. The lyrics aren't complex in any way and can be said to be very basic; they are more used to convey the atmosphere of the music than express concrete ideas.
My friend shared this with me and I am so happy that I discovered this girl. She has her own style unlike many other artists these days. After watching her music videos at first you get shocked that someone who looks "nerdy" can make music like this. And then you realize that it's what her makes her all the more natural, unique, and sexy! She is confident in her own skin and has the talent. She does not need to put on flashy clothes or makeup to produce good music. I actually became a huge fan just now :p

I'd been looking for this for the past month or so without remembering anything about the context, music, lyrics, just vaguely that it was Korean and super cool. Finally, it popped up in my recommended, and I cannot believe it was under 88rising all along. I should have guessed. Edit: Time to loop it for the next 7 days.
