Thanks so much! First thing I noticed when I got this rig in the mail. Bought it recently, hooked it up alongside my ICOM 7300 and there it was AM/FM, no VFO action! I knew it had to be a feature. But there was that instant that I thought, "oh man got a lemon." What an odd one though. I imagine the image on the final build had that switch disabled. Yaesu said oh well they will figure it out and did not bother with a fix. Got a great, I mean great deal on a 450D virtually new. Right place, right time. The pictures showed a clean rig and the narrative said only used a couple times. I could not even find any dust in the fan! I was told that it was new was bought for and Emergency Operation Center, powered it up a couple times and decided on something different. Put the rig up on a closet and didnt do anything with it until now. Now I own it. Hope it was not because AM/FM did not work? Well, I am finding out that this is one really nice rig. Layout a little backwards it seems to me coming from ICOM but the DSP is very effective. I have an outboard AF DSP for my ICOM from BHI in the UK. Dual-in line DSP noise reduction unit. Works great, well worth the money spent. I made a handful of overseas contacts from Pennsylvania to Italy with the Yaesu, also a Canadian ham calling CQ, 5/9 reports on all the contacts and excellent audio report. All with 100 watts and a longwire at 90'. So far, I am impressed. Can't wait until I fire up my ACOM 1000 and apply a little juice. Take care and thanks for the "tip"! 73, AB5VJ
thanks Fred!! i thought id bugged my new to me FT-450, watched this video and solved it, thanks. on one of your other video's i think i said something like "ok ill take the ham test then" well i did and for now I'm a M7. So i blame you for everything that goes wrong with my station now, lol
Handy tip that Fred, not sure why they did that 'feature', thankfully (or not so) all my radios in the shack are that old they have no menu's :) Keep up the great work :)
Hi Fred, I'm copying you here. Started off with the ss6900 and the antron 99 (which I sneak up a metre more every few weeks... On a Sunday too lol) I don't have the firestick upgrade though as its a bit heavy on that 2nd to 1st section threading. I have a yaesu 450D on its way and I've been told for the price it's a really good HF Radio probably the best in the price range. Need to save up for replacement MD 100 mic though as that little stock standard mic looks like the one you get with the SS6900 like a little tonka truck mic or something the kid plays with haha. All good mate just waiting on this skip opening up here. Had some 26 division on 27.305 the other morning there, it was faint but still there. Anyway today I just thought I'd get a few beers and have one with you if you know what I mean. Just looking for tips on this new 450D I've never had a big radio like this before and now the test is out the way I can get some further contacts when I have sorted it out with a magnetic loop or whatever. Take care fred keep em coming m8. All the best from Scotland
Hi Rab. The standard mic with the 450D is a world away quality wise than you get with a 6900N. Its very well made. However on 11meters i found it could be improved with a cheap repro china clone. There is a video about it on the channel. The MD 100 works really well with the 450 and can be picked up for around £70 second hand and not a lot more new. Just rem the 450 is not widebanded as standard and requires a mod. All the best.
@@CB-RADIO-UK yeah got it sorted now Fred, I just got it Widebanded when I bought it, had to fone them back and tell em to do it.. Got hold of a MD100 too so all good. Night and day on ssb as opposed to the standard hand mic. Cheers again Fred, 73
Had the same problem after doing the wide band TX mod, on 29.6 meg the vfo was locked on FM. After enabling am and FM in the menue all worked fine G4uit.
Hi Fred, just wondering if you could be of any help. My screen colour is a horrible yellow and I want it back to white but don’t have a manual. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi. Your going to need a 30 amp PSU. If you got the funds Alinco make some nice ones. I use a cheaper QJE PS3011. Its been working faultless for over 2 years now. It features in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--mU0JIR68PM.html
You can get a simple PC Power Supply with 350W or more. Just modifie the ATX Plug to switch it on. Connect the 450d to the 6+2Graphics Card Connector (12V and GND) Its all about 30 Euro
Hi any idea why the FT-450d has such a narrow SSB voice on tx bandwidth...at around 2.4khz...cant see any way to adjust it. I can adjust the RX bandwidth but not the tx...only reason I ask is I sometime get poor audio reports....thought it maybe due to this. Nick.
Hi Fred I have just bought a new ft 450d and have followed what you say also by the manual but when using the main dial to alter frequency then it only increases or decreases by 20 khz so for example if I go on FM and try and get 27.781.25 then it will only go to 27.781.20 any ideas mate please
I think this has come up before. I guess its somewhere the stepping settings menu. I have a feeling mine does the same. Bit of a cop out but ive left my Alinco on .20 instead of .25. TBH on FM the .05 wont make any real difference.
ok mate thanks I did notice though that if you go to usb mode then go to the required frequency then change the mode back to fm it stays on the correct frequency...Anyways I hope you do more vids on the yaesu 73s mate

You know i tried for that myself and without using software and reprogramming i could not find a way. I found .20 was fine on FM as its so wide anyway.
