P.S. Is that modification will also cover the 11 meter Freeband frequency?

Another question sir. About the display problem, most say that having the the radio being exposed to so much sunlight causes that problem. So would it be safe to say that if I'll just use it indoors would make the display last longer or it's just the same as it ages? Sorry bother you sir, I am just contemplating wether to buy it or not. Sure appreciate it.

Im not sure what brings it on. I sold this radio personally. The most basic displays seem to stand the test of time. Will keeping a radio in a controlled environment prolong the display life ? I wish I could answer that with confidence but alas I cannot. Thanks for watching !

The display issue is prevalent to radios that are mounted permanently in vehicles. The extreme summer heat is the biggest culprit that de bonds the flex cable from the front circuit board. It is not repairable and one has to spend around $180 to Yaesu for a replacement assembly. Rumor has it that the de bonding issue has been fixed. There are other options out there where one can purchase aftermarket display units that connect either to the rear cat port ( you loose the ability to connect certain auto tuners ) or the microphone port behind the display unit ( you loose the ability to use the full feature remote microphone.).

@@Subgunman Displays take a real beating mobile. I bought another used 706 just to replace the head in mine a few years ago. I keep the head in the house now . The aftermarket displays are a good option but the one I experimented with years ago generated noise pretty badly. Thanks for your help !

You did not show a close-up of what you did to number six. You said close number six. Do you need do you mean both contacts at 6 to close them together or did you mean close it with seven and eight or 345 or what did you mean?

Hi there sir. I am from the Philippines and someone here is selling his 857 for 38,000 pesos around 678 USD. slightly used and still got all the accessories and the original box. Do you think it's still worth buying it for its age? I am new to hf so would it be just fine for fix station use?

This was a radio that I had for a short period of time before selling it for about the same price as the radio you are looking at. I made a few contacts on it testing it and overall my impression is it is a legacy radio that is compact but not extraordinary. One of the big concerns on these radios is the display going bad so keep that in mind. Thanks for watching !

I have read that there were many versions and the mod only works on some of them. Can anyone confirm this or offer advice on which serial numbers this mod works on? Thnx for the great video too.

You are welcome ! This is the only mod I know of personally for this model. It is pretty easy to do and undo. Thanks for watching !

Thank you my friend. I have been concerned as some say it bricked the radio. Yet If it is truly easy to reverse, I will go ahead. Thnx mate.@@survivalcomms

Thanks Mate, I am truly not sure which mine are. I bought them both new on ebay years ago but not sure which country they came from . @@survivalcomms

@@survivalcommsI believe the radios are the same. The jumpers determine the frequency ranges open for each country. Bought my unit years ago when I lived in the States but traveling to the EU with the radio I had to do the mod to open up the 70cm band used in the EU which basically starts at 431 MHz and runs to 440 MHz. When I am taking it easy I enjoy SWL but within the last decade we have lost many stations to the internet. Seems all I get now are stations from communist china.
