I used the RT Systems software for programming my FT8900. The instructions to follow were all on the computer screen for what I needed to press on the radio for both receiving from radio and sending data to the radio. Highly recommend the FT-8900r as well as the RT Systems software....they make it super easy.

This worked great for programming one side of the transmitter thank you. Do you have any tips for programming the other side?

I believe you do the same thing just on the other side. :)

That was also my first assumption. Have you tried it with success? it didn't work at all from step 1 for me. Could be a problem with my unit? I just purchased it used.@@ReiJarrod

Would you know how I can program a repeater that uses 2 different DTC tones. One for transmit and the other for the output of the repeater. At the moment I am using both sides of the dial for UHF. The transmit on the left with the transmit DTC and the right side of the dial with the receive frequency but at the moment no DTC. I could program a DTC for the right side but just testing for now. Is their a way to do this type of a split with separate DTC tones one for TX and a different for RX as a single channel? Thanks

Great tutorial but for some reason, the write to radio selection is grayed out. And in the upper left corner of the main screen where yours reads "Banks", mine reads "D-STAR" instead. I don't know why that is and I can't find any information on it. And I am using a good programming cable with the FTDI chip also. Do you have any clue to why that is happening? Thanks for the very helpful video.

Thanks very much for this very helpful video. I applied the same sequence for my yaesu ft-8900r and windows 10 pc using latest version of chirp, it started cloning from radio to pc and when cloning finished without any problem error, I have seen that nothing transferred to chirp page. It was empty. However, I have at least 50 memory records on the radio, entered manually. Could you suggest any solution ?

I have the TYT TH-9800 which is a clone of the Yaesu FT8900. I wish I had bought the Yeasu as my radio is less than a couple months old and when I turn it on it starts beeping out loud and will not stop. That's what I get for trying to save a buck. One thing about the TYT 9800 I did like was it did not need to be put into clone mode before using Chirp and just did a direct download and upload without having to mess with the radio. Think I might buy the Yeasu though as I am leery to buy the same Chinese clone again even though it only runs about $200. Thanks for sharing.

common problem , upload the chip file back to it and should fix.

Thaks for this. Is it normal for it to take much longer to write back to the radio? Is there a way to speed up the transfer?
@ReiJarrod

Yes it is normal. It is old tech and serial so it will take some time.

You have to buy a model specific cable. It is so dumb, but each Yaesu model requires it's own type of cable.

I purchased a proprietary yaesu to PC USB cable. Thing to know is one cable does not work on all yaesu radios. So far I have three yaesu radios and had to purchase a cable for each.
