RT-Systems makes programming software for most amateur radios. From inexpensive handhelds to the most complex and costly stations, RT-Systems makes it.
This video shows how to use this software to adjust, save, and write menu items with the Yaesu FT-991A.
I don't currently, nor have I ever, worked for RT-Systems and I did not receive anything from them for putting this together.

Howdy Tom. Yes I do use RT SYSTEMS software to program my FT991a, However you did teach me about the menu functions as I never used them combined as you showed me. Thank You...always learning! &# N6ZKI, yep still waiting so AG is it!

Their S/W is brilliant. NO other words for it. I run it here on all my kit. Yes.... you can piCK UP THE MANUFACTURERS STUFF FOR NOTHING but it cannot hold a candle to the RT Stuff, As I see it... my time is way to precious to engage in long hard fights with the (in my case ) Yeasu stuff. The support from RT Systems is exceptionally good, the product can be downloaded and if you need one of their purpose build cables for your radio they have it in the post like a shot. Their implementation for the YEASU FT991 and the 991A is great.... you can do the MENU items completely separate from the memories. IF you muck about with your radio... for instance, trying out the many many digital settings and you break something ( like I did) just reload yr menu settings only from the back-up file and you are back in business. Your memory channels remain untouched. This S/W has saved me hours ! All in all ? Money very well spend! Albert EI7II

Tom - as always you focus on the action items needed for newer users of the 991a to get started. i was especially glad that you provided screen shots of how you have your memory channels and menu items set. Question 1: The screen shot only went to memory item 50. I'm curious if/how you have your HF frequencies set...presumably further down the list? Question 2: In the Common section you changed Main Control Buttons for SSB and CW but left RTTY/AM/FM/Data and C4FM unchanged...does that mean that's how you have them set? And, Question 3: Are the Operating Mode settings how you have them in newer videos discussing FT8, RTTY and Winlink for example? If not can you post those newer settings too? Randy, the settings not mentioned was an editing consideration. I believe that I did mention that they should be set to the user preferences, as the final settings should be. I recently did a video about settings for the data modes (D-USB & D-LSB) where I included my settings for the persistent functions. Thanks for the nice comments. 73 de Tom, ND3N…

I know its not the topic of this video but I just bought a 991A and am looking to buy an antenna. I keep reading that G5RV wire antennas don't work well with the automatic tuner. What do you know about this and if your view isn't positive what wire antenna would you recommend? Are end fed antennas a good way to go? I have the space, what I would like is one HF antenna that covers most bands.

With any variant on a dipole, your main concerns are how my space you have available for it and how high you can get the center-point up in the air. I use a GAP Challenger DX, which is not a standard vertical, instead it is a vertically polarized, capacitively tuned, dipole. With a G5RV or OCF (off center fed) dipole variant, you'll probably want to use an external antenna tuner because of the 300 ohm ladder line section you'll use to feed it. Here's the GAP webpage. I've used them for years and have been very happy with them. Hey Tom I recently moved and I hook up my 991a just like I had it before but I can’t get my pc to recognize my 991a and it has the yellow caution whwhen I check my device manager I’m at my Witt’s end I have tried 3 different pc’s and 3 different cables I have no clue

I have done that a dozen times and still doesn’t work I personally think something may be wrong with the radio

Hi Tom - I noticed your tuner light is always on. Does that make the tuner operate in the automatic mode? Thanks.

I assume you're talking about the "TNR" indicator being engaged (dark background) and yes, if I go to a frequency that I've already turned up on, the rig has set the internals of the tuner to automatically configure itself for that frequency. If I haven't turned up there, I just need to engage the tuner and let it do it's magic, then in the future it will be automatic. Make sense? 73 de Tom, ND3N

Do you have any idea if the spreadsheets can be converted from other brands of radio or different programming software? I haven't started looking for the repeater list in my area yet, so I'm not sure what programs were used.

You might want to look at this video (it's not one of mine) - but the creator shows how to use Repeaterbook.com to output a file that can be imported into a number of different programming softwares (including RT Systems, Chirp, etc.) The spreadsheet in RT Systems is common among all their packages, so I could copy and paste between my 991A, and ID-5100. 73 de Tom, ND3N ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YpVSCPqEs1w.html
