Hi Frank, I'm really enjoying these videos on the 991A! You are a great teacher and explainer! I finally got a 991A and also got one of those PAR 10-80 Meter end fed antennas. I'm patiently waiting for my local tree person to do the antenna install for HF but, I too have a 2/440 one up outside so I can content myself with that for a bit until out vastest snow dump allows access to a couple of trees on the property. Thanks again for these! Also forgot i have the RT systems software coming for it, I've had very good luck with the RT products on both of my ICOM D-Star radios.

Using a boot on the power cable is a nice touch. I use shrink tubing but the boot makes a nicer fit.

I have both this radio and the power supply. How far away from the radio did you situate the power supply? The instructions say 'as far as possible"

That's a good question. I have my power supply about four feet away. I've seen pictures that the power supply is next to the radio.

The one that came in the box, don't recall, but it was longer than 5 feet.

hi frank, i talked to you last week. i will be opening up my 991a finally.. Im gonna use a wilson 1000 ant for 10m & diamond mobile dual for 2 m & 70cm. field day mobile ready.. i will be adding my dc amp shunt circuit to get readings @ the different transmission levels & record them. If u want, i can send u the results..73 NB8Z

Your antennas should not be connected if there is Lightning in the area just FYI.I have a quick disconnect on all 11 antennas and my antenna rotor.They all get disconnected Outside of my shack.👍👏🎙

@@frankwc0o He's asking where it goes from there, I think. I use ground jumpers for each metal box in the shack, to eliminate all potential RF, then send the jumper (wire, as you refer to it) to a grounding bus under a wooden desk. You could also mount the bus on the wall behind your radio desk. From the bus, attach 3" copper ground strap, and send the strap outside without contact of metal to the center of three 8' copper ground rods spaced well apart. Connect all three rods together with ground strap and ground clamps. Make sure to have utility companies all check where you plan to drive the ground rods for your own safety.

It there a way to plug the radio directly into wall outlet?

You cannot connect the radio directly to the wall plug at your house. You need a power supply to do that. The radio accepts DC current. the power supply will convert the wall power which is AC to DC.

There are three reasons for grounding ----- RF, Safety and Lightening. The importance of grounding is way over-blown. The normal three prong power cable provides grounding if the home electrical system was performed correctly. Grounding may help a little with RF in certain circumstances. Mostly, however, it is a myth.
