Hybrid SDR Configuration
Like the FTDX101 series, the new FTDX10 utilizes the Yaesu Hybrid SDR configuration - Narrow Band SDR and Direct Sampling SDR. The Narrow band SDR receiver emphasizes excellent receiver performance, while the Direct Sampling SDR provides a Digital Processing Real-Time Spectrum Scope.

Narrow Band SDR with 3 types of Roofing Filters and Phenomenal Multi-signal receiving Characteristics
Like the FTDX101 series, the Down Conversion type receiver configuration with the first IF at 9MHz has been adopted. It makes it possible to incorporate excellent narrow bandwidth crystal roofing filters that have the desired sharp “cliff edge” shape factor. Thanks to the Narrow Band SDR with the latest circuit configuration including 500Hz, 3kHz and 12kHz roofing filters and low noise oscillator, the RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range) reaches 116dB or more, the close-in BDR (Blocking Dynamic Range) reaches 141dB or more, and 3rd IMDR (third-order Intermodulation Dynamic Range) reaches 109dB or more, in the 14MHz band at 2kHz separation.

250MHz HRDDS (High Resolution Direct Digital Synthesizer) affords Quiet and Clear Reception
The local circuit of the new FTDX10 uses 250MHz HRDDS method same as the FTDX101 series. Thanks to its characteristics that improve the C/N (carrier to noise) ratio and the careful selection of components in the design, the phase noise characteristic of the local signal achieves an excellent value of -145dB or less in 14MHz at 2kHz separation.
3-Dimensional Spectrum Stream
3DSS (3-Dimensional Spectrum Stream) on the 5-inch Full-Color TFT Display with Touch-Panel Functionality
The 5-inch Full-Color panel shows the 3DSS display. By touching the frequency display, the numeric keypad is displayed, and the active band and frequency adjustment can be set by direct input. Frequency setting and adjustment can also be performed by turning the MAIN dial or touching the scope display. Similar to the FTDX101 series, the MULTI display, RX operation status display, Center, FIX and Cursor modes are available.

DVI to HDMI adapters often fry the FTDX10 DVI port. Only use a true DVI monitor on this radio!

Congrats on the new radio. Good choice. I have been watching the N4HNH video series he has been presenting on youtube for this radio. Very informative and recommended for anyone considering this radio. I didnt know about the DVI cable you mentioned , thanks. One suggestion on learning straight key, move your wrist instead of trying to do all the keying with your finger. As if the contacts were under your wrist not at the end of your finger. I know different strokes for different folks. I found it to be more accurate and able to develop speed with less fatigue. Enjoy!

We don't ALL like seeing the line. I like the 3D view. This radio blows my old IC-7300 out of the water. With the filtering, I have zero noise - almost like listening on 2m. Great radio.

Question: Do you have two mouses then on your desktop? One for the FTDX10 monitor and one for your other logging internet computer? How does that work for you? Thinking about buying the FTDX10 and was just curious.

I like using the Wide VBW when doing CW to pick out signals on the IC 705 it makes a huge difference, i dunno if you can do the same on the dx10 but i really dont like the narrow as too much trash showing on scope. also straight keying 3 to 1 ratio for length of dits to dahs. 73s

The firmware update steps are standard instructions, formatting is in there because they don't know if it's a new or used card and they didn't want to take chances of the radio picking the wrong file as the firmware and bricking the radio. The SD cards come preformatted as the file system the radio uses, so if it's new it'll work out of the box.

Yeah I was just pointing out that updating the 7300 was simpler... When I went to do it the other day all of my files were already up to date so there was no need to do the action.

Nice setup. How long did it take for you to learn Morse Code? Did your winter go well? I still have storm debris from October where I am at. Hopefully it will be gone in the next month or two. Still waiting for those famous OKC thunderstorms.

Hey Jonesy. So, I cleared my yard, and the city came by 2x and picked up limbs here. So we got 95% of it carried away for is. I paid a guy to come in and clear the rest. Yeah, we haven't seen any storms yet.... can't wait.

You had IC-7300...FT-DX10 how is on RX comparing to IC-7300. At weak signals? Currently I own a 7300...but I want to change to FT-DX10...but only if is an improvement on RX for week signals (CW mode...)

@@hamradiocq One friend has it. It is a prefilter on the data coming into the SDR to more strongly reject adjacent CW. I looked at options when I was getting mine. BTW, I have both the Flexradio 6600 and FTDX-10. I got the FTDX-10 because I wanted a strong POTA radio. It is an amazing radio in quiet conditions.

@Ham Radio CQ.. I like the 3DSS, it has its uses. you just need to get use to the 3DSS waterfall ,like a first person shooters get use to looking into the screen. if you do you will find out its advantages. it's not just for the 3d.

Yaesu now says to only use DVI monitor, so a straight DVI to DVI cable is required. The radio's DVI will not last if using DVI to HDMI. Look in the manual, they show a straight DVI video cable.

Could you please tell me if you have heard that using a DVI to HDMI cable eventually causes your radios video card to blow, can you confirm? Are you aware of this issue? Would like your input. It seems to be a major issue.

if you are using DVI to HDMI, STOP!!!!........the problems lays when using hdmi there is a power coming back into the radio and the boards inside are not meant for the power surge coming in......dvi to dvi is recommended...do your radio a favor!!!
