Yaesu FTM Radio No Memory Bank Solution? 

I don't understand why Yaesu left banks out of the FTM radios, they put banks in the FT5D.

I frequent three separate metro areas in the State I live in. None are concurrent or side by side. My solution was three separate SD cards. One for each metro area. Yaesu must believe we are still in a permanent pandemic; no one travels anywhere and takes the rig along in the mobile.

Haha - exactly my issue as well. Kind of boggles the mind honestly! We have multiple clubs around here. I'd love to have bank for each clubs (some of a band plan for emergency, simplex channels for simplex nets, different repeaters etc. Same with traveling. If I'm going camping I'd love to load 5-6 repeaters in while at home to a memory bank and then jump to that bank at the campsite and try them out.

Just as @ag1382 says, I think using separate SD cards may work for travelling between large areas. I'm also thinking about using an SD card extension cable so I don't have to get to the main unit each time I may want to switch. This is not perfect either, but it may be an option. My Yaesu FT-7800 had several banks. Would be nice if they could update these newer radios with banks.

There is no elegant way around this issue, and shame on Yaesu for omitting this feature on an otherwise excellent radio! As said in another comment, they included it in the FT5D, which I have, and it works beautifully in that radio! I bought the FTM500 primarily for a new base station, but with an eye toward also putting one in my truck. For home, this isn't an issue, but it's a deal breaker for my truck. Apparently the Icom 5100 has memory bank scanning, and if I can confirm this, that will be the rig for my mobile use.

Fail. Why I don't own a 400, 300, 200 or 500. Their ancient 2980 has memory banks as do the HTs. ID-5100 or older IC-2820 or IC-2730A do it all if you don't need/use C4FM. I asked Yaesu at Hamvention and they said some word salad about memory/software space. Really? The SD card is unlimited. Again total fail. It's a shame, I really wanted a 500 but doesn't work for base or mobile for me without memory banks.
