Repairs to a seized Gearbox preventing elevation on my G-5500 azimuth elevation rotator.
it's the second time doing this repair in 20 years so not too bad for Yorkshire Pennine mountain weather.
The unit does absorb moisture, the lube/grease eventually dries out and you end up with gears sticking and eventually seizures causing the unit to Lock up.
never fear! it's a easy enough repair with care and you only need a decent screwdriver some spanners, penetration oil and fresh grease/lube and a wind free day.
hope the video helps someone who has the same problem.
mine is quieter and working perfectly again. the entire time taken was 3 hours including coffee and lunch break. 73

They are very good and can be maintained easy enough. Mine is 20 years old and has been stripped 3 times. It gets quicker each time and I have a spare 500k pot in case I need to replace it again 😅

Nice repair video there Simon ...finally watched it ..What grease did you use I've used lithium grease before now and I have a couple to repair here so this is a great reminder ;-)

Thanks dude, I have some decent automotive grease that I use on spindles for my motor bikes as well as the car stuff. It's well sticky and smells bad but doesn't dry up so fast. Als, it's quite good with sealing out moisture. The unit has survived well over the years, considering the amount of use it has been enjoying 😁. Have fun with your repairs it's a good feeling when it works out with a positive result. 73
