A "story" can just be a journey of emotions. It doesn't matter what Tosca was written for. Any music can be taken from its original source and interpreted differently when being skated/danced to. There's nothing you can say specifically, it's just personal taste. Why does someone like apples but not bananas? I find the Broken Arrow music to be mostly uninteresting for this program and lacking in character. It isn't rousing enough and it doesn't create a depth of emotion.
Why does someone have to skate to Tosca as if they are doing the actual opera? That's a terrible critique. Just use the music to create emotion. The crescendo from this program that you cited is unremarkable, as I said. Subtle doesn't always equal effective. The spiral you mention is another example of how this program is lacking. That movement is trying to add a tender moment to the performance but the music lacks the emotion to support the moment. BA isn't one of Hans Zimmer's best works.
Oh please, your argument has no detail. I'm sure you feel so enlightened because you can use the word "tempo". *roll eyes* This program lacks cohesion and ultimately is not memorable. It doesn't build to the same emotional height as his other top programs. Even his Tosca program that he switched to for Worlds right after this competition (which left him with little time to train it fully), turned out better than this one. If you disagree it's because of personal taste, not musical knowledge.
Yagudin's skating is forceful (not in a bad way). He is great at grand gestures and that doesn't work with the bland Broken Arrow music. Most of his jumps also aren't highlighted by the music, whereas in Tosca their explosive nature is often matched by the intensity of the music. This music has little "flavor" because there is no story being told. It is completely generic action film music with obvious and unremarkable crescendos. It doesn't create a strong feeling or build on itself.
