Yakolev's approach to the Yak-28 was a no-frills design, similar to the other Soviet turbojet-powered aircraft of the time. The Yak-28 had a conventional aerodynamic design, it was a cantilevered, high-mounted, swept-shaped wing and a four-bearing bicycle-type chassis. Glider aircraft made entirely of aluminum alloys.
Yak-28 had a length of 21.6 meters (70 ft 10 in), a wingspan of 12.5 meters (41 ft 0 in), a height of 3.95 meters (13 ft 0 in), an empty weight of 9.97 tons, and a maximum takeoff weight of 20 tons.

I'm an American, but I have always appreciated Soviet Aerospace engineering, especially of the 1960's. Always thought their aircraft and spacecraft were cool looking, functional, and effective. Thanks for this informative video. Many of the older, more obscure aircraft don't get the attention they deserve...

Thanks for the video. As an American, I have to say that the aircraft of the U.S.S.R were at times much more advanced than the those of the west/NATO. They got the job done and looked pretty cool as well.

@@jamescunliffe9872 titanium or stainless steel. I took a materials class and they told me the classification numbers but I forgot the number ratings🤦‍♂️. Something with high long lasting qaulity.

Once again great video thanks bro!:) interesting information about the variable cone intakes, I've only seen that on the Sr 71 where it's purpose regulates supersonic air! I'm guessing it has a large bomb bay by looking at the unusual landing gear? The harrier has a very similar landing gear setup. I appreciate your expansion on the technical details!:)

@keith moore what you'd call a moab, American, has been done by Russia with a bigger bang!*!*! But less weight for the reasons you've mentioned! It's called the Foab lol:)

Hey, any aircraft, which goes over 1.5M, usually controls intake air flow - Mig 29, F-4, Mirage, Tu-160, etc. But Sr-71 not only regulates air, it has ramjet contours over it's turbojet engines, and can route air to ramjet's intake at high speeds
