I feel you about Mine. I thought he was boring character for most of the game, then you get all his background dropped on you when the game is about to end and I went "This guy is so cool please don't kill him off!"
if you had the tiger drop, you’re able to use it on andre’s running attack. however, the tiger drop in yakuza 3 doesn’t negate the possible damage the attack does as if it landed anyway.
What ive found quite usefull was weak attack + 2 strong attack while the enemy is on the ground. the 3rd hit will reset him to the ground making it super easy
Tiger drop doesn’t have s, but more importantly it doesn’t have the stun capability that the Komaki Parry has. If a boss isn’t in heat mode and is stunned you can set them up with combos from behind and then get more damage if they are bounding against the wall. Only downside to the Komaki Parry is that Im pretty sure it wont work against any leg attacks, so you have to know what animations to look for before going for the parry. From my experience there are only a few instances where Tiger Drop is better in this game; Coliseum fights against the mma fighters (idk what else to call them) where they do that running leg drop attack. But if you are doing a No Damage run then the tiger drop is practically useless in this game. Other than that it’s actually pretty easy to time, but still harder than the Komaki Parry usually.
I on my first try found every boss fight fair and not annoying but kanda sucks he blocked the whole time and the fight got dragged out to like 25mins :/
@@combineadvisor572Cannot relate. I played once on normal and Tamashiro didn't give me issues but that's not comparable. Lau Ka Long tho? Made me wanna eat my controller
Actually on that kanda stone plate phase, u can smash it without the heat move by doing the lotus flare fist. I use that move a lot in 3 & 4 cuz it's the fastest way to charge heat + knocks down most enemies
I really like that you discussed the worst qualities but also some of the best things in the game. It took me like a year to beat Y3 because of the combat and the age that it showed after playing Yakuza Kiwami 2. I remember screaming like angry german kid at that chinese spear guy.
I do see why people hate Yakuza 3, or simply see it as a skippable game: Beyond his "curious gameplay", his story feels like a "What now?". As you said most of the characters that appears came from literlly nowhere, the story for my taste feels really rush and that It doesn't have a certain point, and Mine as a villain feels really lazy and rushed: When I first play it I thought that Anderson was going to be the final villain and not some random who even tho his actions are somewaht noble (In his way) feels like a last time change. I believe that what makes Yakuza 1&2 so enjoyble is their conections beetwen them, seeing how the conflicts from the 10 Billion are about to provoque a War beetwen clans, how the characters presented make sense to the plot, of course they have their downs as any other story, but I hope YOU understand. Sorry for the long text, I felt inspired.
I agreed. Then,I discovered that aside from Komaki technique,Booze also give you some buffs in battle. So I went to poppo and buy every Sale as much as I can.
Same, when I finish Y6 I'll probably revisit each of the games and explore stuff or do NG+ where I'm not suffering. Y3 with no komaki moves was even more hell for me because I play on playstation so whenever I side step I end up right in front of them 💀
Fighting Kanda for the first time almost made me quit but after that fight, I found Komaki, and was able to enjoy the game finally. I would have definitely quit by Majima 2 if not for the counter attacks
@@YTReturnz Literally same lmfao. But I dont remember having that many problems with the fights in this game, but I do remember Lau Ka Long being so annoying
i liked rikiya, it was one of the only bosses that made me think about actually start dodging and punishing with a combo, he probably changed how i played yakuza in general, treating it as that i cant just spam a combo and win
Rikiya blocks much less in the original. In the remaster, I installed the quickstep restoration mod and just sidestepped his attacks, which seems to be what you're supposed to do.
I definitely rushed through 3 and looking back at a maxed level Kiryu it definitely looks like more fun. But grinding through 3 can be a pain and I understand why people don’t take that time to max him out
Also fighting kanda with low level skills is awful, you just block his attacks and kinda just accept that he beats you down with no heat and super armor
I actually felt like Mine was pretty well developed over the course of the game. He starts out seeming like he’s a homie or at least one of the only sane men left in the Tojo, but that mask starts to slip as the game continues and more about him is revealed. Yeah, the dump at the end is a lot, but you don’t really need it to understand his character, which I think is a good thing. It just provides additional (possibly unnecessary, even) context for why he is the way that he is. I should also mention that Shibusawa does a VERY similar thing in 0, which not a lot of people criticize, and it’s arguably a lot worse in 0 considering that Shibusawa’s whole thing was hiding in the shadows until it was his moment to strike, which had the side effect of meaning that we knew jack shit about him before he became Dojima’s right hand man near the end.
I feel like rikiya was supposed to be a tutorial fight to show the importance of parry’s but the problem is 1. That’s not intuitive enough and 2. That’s not exactly a good idea, having a boss that forces you to learn a defensive mechanic like that because it bogs down the pace.
Everyone chooses Hell's Gauntlet considering it does the most damage, more than enough times they'll use the original headbutt/headpress but never knock down since that does the worst damage.
Knockdown is great crowd control. Head press is safe because you don't have to worry about QTE's. Hell's Gauntlet is the best one because it's very very easy to deal more damage than Head Press with it, but you need to be aware of the QTE's because it's very easy to miss them.
Knock down is only useful if there are multiple enemies (only andre 1 and hasabe have multiple enemies), head press is the quickest and does decent damage, which is useful if the boss is on low health anyway or you don't want to do qte's and hell's gauntlet does the most damage.
Eh. Whats the point if this is with clear data? Then again itd be boring if it was a fresh game. All my regrets for playing this on hard, especially against the big guy. It was only very late when i learned not to connect the start of my combo on enemies. The biggest pain werent the bosses but group encounters and getting womboed.
I like playing with clear data because I have access to my entire moveset that way, a fresh new game would be very painful for no damage, maybe not impossible but for yakuza I don't think it would be fun. Yakuza 3 definitely comes into its own on new game plus cause a lot of the boss fights feel designed around the parry you can unlock in chapter 5
@@imontheedgeofmyseat You know what, you're right. Usually I prefer to play against the difficulty the devs intended and tuned (otherwise I'd play on easy), but 3 on hard is...poorly balanced for fresh players. Even with an end game setup (lots of upgrades and decent gear), it was not fun fighting everyone past Majima with the knife. Basically noped the IFR after Majima. If I didn't have weapons, I might have even started over the game on normal.
@@imontheedgeofmyseat Btw, I gotta acknowledge your mastery of the game here. I thought I was a "veteran" given I've played all the main line games on (mostly) hard, but my play looks like button mashing and weapon/heat cheesing compared to your play. Edit: FYI, I think face scrapping is the best heat move in the series.
All the little ins and outs you gotta learn to be good at combat for the bosses is just a further illustration to me why I never really wasted the time 100%ing any of these as I'm playing through them
