@@yokospoken no, games like ghost of tsushima proved that samurai games sell in the west, and SEGA did say that. They also said that they will localize them if they get a remake.
Honestly, a remaster would do just fine with this game. Just upscale the textures and use cutscene models in gameplay and it'll look as good as Yakuza 4.
There was a fan translation in the works, but it seems to have lost steam and be halted at the current moment. Only real way to play it at the moment is with guides.
@@yakuzaarchivechannel2530 that’s so crazy, I’ve seen youtubers play games with English translations and stuff but that’s obviously added to the video and not the game itself.
It's similar, but I wouldn't really compare the two. It's like comparing Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 6. They may share systems, characters, or ideas, but they are not at all alike. Kenzan, for example, has only a few characters from the main series play character in it's story with the rest taken up by new characters, meanwhile Ishin is almost entirely made up of faces from the main series with very few new faces. On the question to whether Kenzan is better than Ishin, that's really up to the player to decide. I personally find Kenzan to have more things I like it in than Ishin, but I also know people who hate Kenzan and love Ishin. There are completely legitimate arguments to be had both ways. If you're more a fan of the Y0-era of Yakuza games, Ishin is for you. Meanwhile if you like the Y3-4-era of Yakuza games, Kenzan would be more your speed.
@@testsmagazinejoystick1980 Ishin is probably the most fun since you can relax and play it in English, meanwhile Kenzan is JP only and you have to have a guide open to get the most fun out of it
@@yakuzaarchivechannel2530 I think Kenzan does not have many familiar faces because it came so early in the series. If they made a Kiwami for it, I think it most certainly would have more.
It’s interesting how the styles are designed. Dual sword seems to have a much fuller move set compared to the others. The dagger and great sword styles also return in their entirety in the later games.
IRL Musashi’s specialty or signature was dual-wielding the two swords samurai were allowed to carry. Basically “we all got them , why not use them?”. Though his most infamous duel was won with a boat oar, which is a heavy weapon in the game.
@@MemeLordCthulhu It’s all because of bad marketing. Like, They really want to advertise this game to look as american as possible instead of trying to show what game truly feel like. That’s why this game wasn’t even popular in the west. But with new producer like Yokoyama, I think he might have some sort of ability to help this game truly shine in the west, Man.
Y3 is the only game to play like that. Kenzan's combat has the enemy block less based on your weapon stats and difficulty. Y3 just has the enemy block 90% of the time regardless of what you do. Dislikes probably come from goobers :)
Surprisingly, I think trophies actually might have helped Kenzan gain a little bit more notoriety. I know a lot of plat hunters that ignore Kenzan or stuff in it due to there being nothing forcing them to get completion in it done. At least if there were trophies more people would check the game out
@@yakuzaarchivechannel2530 Indeed!!! I still bought it anyway, but... I haven't even played it to a save point in the year I've owned it. It's just a drag going through a language I can't read for no Trophy reward, but I'm about to play it anyway just for funsies to hype myself up for Ishin. WOO- Oh yeah, another thing is that the ending of Kenzan, which I won't spoil, but that may be a reason it doesn't get officially translated. Y'know what I mean?
@@yakuzaarchivechannel2530 Something about *SPOILERS* Haruka- or whoever Haruka is supposed to be, goes on to be a prostitute for somebody, doesn't she? Like, really young child Haruka? One of my friends told me that, idk. I never got to it.
@@RossWyatt Common misconception. Haruka becomes what is known as a Kamuro at the beginning of the game. Kamuro were like maids for the prostitutes, or Courtesans, in Gion. They ran errands, set up dates, and helped their assigned Courtesan get ready to meet their date. Kamuros do eventually become Courtesans when they become old enough, but Haruka is only temporarily a Kamuro to pay off Musashi. By the end it's revealed she's the granddaughter of a high ranking government official and so she stops being a Kamuro.
@OzziePlayz Yes. As Yakuza one and two used a different model. This was released before Yakuza 3, the first appearence of modern Kiryu. This, is the first ps3 kiryu model, the base for the next games.
Ishin is like a million times more popular than Kenzan is, so it got the remake treatment first. Plus, a lot of Kenzan's content is 100% original and never used again, so unlike the first two Kiwami games which could use a bunch of the assets from later games when being made, and Ishin which effectively just got a remaster and could keep a bunch of it's original stuff, to remake Kenzan would require either 1. A ton of time and money, 2. a regular remaster, or 3. a half and half remake that keeps some things from the original and takes a ton of stuff from Ishin.
can someone explain to me the story reason for kenzan not being released in the west? i keep hearing about it, but nobody will really say what exactly happens.
Kenzan not being released in the West is more due to it's obscurity than story reason. People have misconstrued that it has to do with Haruka's counterpart in the game working as a prostitute at a brothel, but in reality she works as a maid and indentured servant in one, which was normal at the time. Ishin was newer so it came over first. Kenzan hasn't come over because most people forget it exists or think the wrong things about the story.
Ngl I thought this was a ps2 era game bc the graphics look like something from the original xbox. Kinda bummed this is ps3 bc now I can't emulate it as well :(
There actually is a ps3 emulator it’s called rpcx3 (or something along those lines). It’s pretty damn good I’ve been playing Drakengard 3. Of course they are still developing it and improving it but even at its current state it works. I was even able to play the original nier. Only problem is that I haven’t found the files for Kenzan only the demo and I’m not sure if I would be able to use a disk to play it. In any case there is likely a way to play it on pc. I wish you luck in trying to get it
