The Suite for String Orchestra 'Enginlerden... Yücelerden', which translates as 'From Seashores...From Highlands' or 'From Plains...From Mountains', was composed in 1969, commissioned by the Ankara Philharmonic Society when the composer was doing military service in Anatolia. Although inspired by folk music, the work is based entirely on original material without any quotations from folk melodies.
‘Uzun Hava’ (‘Long Air’) is an ‘improvisation’ sung or played without strict rhythm. This descending melody is first played by ’solo cello then repeated by the orchestra, a fifth above. A short coda ends the movement. ‘Kırık Hava’ is a ‘rhythmic air’ in contrast to the first movement, based on the irregular rhythmic patterns of Turkish music. Its two sections use different rhythms: note that the whole orchestra uses harmonics at the re-exposition of the first section. The movement ends whit a short coda reminiscent of the beginning. The third movement is a rondo based on the ‘Halay’, a central Anatolian dance movement. Its three-bar figure is repeated frequently, continuously changed and renewed.
The Suite was first performed by Istanbul Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Demirhan Altug, and recorded for Hungaroton in1988 by the Chamber Orchestra of the Oradea Philharmonia, Romania, conducted by Cem Mansur, with the ‘cello solo played by Virginas Stefan. In 1980, the Suite was awarded a prize by the French Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique.

Yaylılar için bir Orkestra Süiti olan Enginlerden... Yücelerden, bestecisinin Anadolu'da askerlik görevini yaptığı dönemde Ankara Filarmoni Derneği'nin isteği üzerine 1969'da bestelenmiştir. Eser, halk müziğinden esinlense de halk melodilerinden herhangi bir alıntı yapmayan, tamamen özgün malzemeye dayanmaktadır.
Uzun Hava, kesin bir ritim olmadan söylenen veya çalınan bir 'doğaçlamadır'. Bu inici melodi önce solo çello ile, ardından orkestra tarafından bu kez bir beşli yukarıdan çalınır. Bölüm, kısa bir finalle sonlanır.
Kırık Hava, ilk bölümün aksine 'ritmik bir havadır'. Türk müziğinin düzensiz ritimli yapısına dayanır. Buhavanın iki kısmında farklı ritimler kullanılır. İlk kısmın tekrar icrasında tüm orkestra, armonikleri kullanır.
Bölüm, başlangıcı andıran kısa bir finalle sona erer. Üçüncü bölüm ise Orta Anadolu halk oyunu olan halaya dayanan bir rondodur. Üç ölçülü figürü sık sık tekrar eder, sürekli değişir ve yinelenir.
Süit ilk olarak Demirhan Altuğ yönetimindeki İstanbul Radyosu Oda Orkestrası tarafından icra edilmiş, ardından 1988'de Cem Mansur'un yönettiği, Virginas Stefan'ın çello solosuyla eşlik ettiği Romanya Oradea Philharmonia Oda Orkestrası tarafından çalınarak Hungaroton için kaydedilmiştir. Bu Süit, 1980'de French Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique tarafından ödüle layık görülmüştür. (Yalçın Tura)
