Yamaha CS-15 demo Part 1- sorry the sound quality is low. An image of the patch (approximately) can be found here: i276.photobucke... -it's very large!
@astroboomboy it is comforting to see other people having this strange condition... running out of time, and yet, still doing anything but writing the thesis!
good demo, just got one yesterday, but instead of playing it I'm at uni writing my damn thesis, and instead of writing the damn thesis I'm watching videos of others playing the cs... I feel like a fucking idiot...
@pixusbubblejet To answer your sequencer question: There are few analog sequencers that will interface directly to the CS-series of synths- because they have a different Control Voltage system - It uses the same S-Trig gate system as the Moog builds, but the voltage is in Hz/V shared only with, AFAIK, Korg synths of the time. So you can try and find a Korg SQ-10 sequencer :/ I think there may be kits to build your own- I use a software or workstation sequencer w/ Kenton Pro2000
Great video, man. A stupid question (maybe), but is the sound right in the beginning, the very cool Moogish lead sound, from the CS-15 as well? Just curious, cause I'm thinking of buying one in the near future.
Sorry- I was never good about writing my patches down, but I'll look and see if I still have the manual (I had to sell this baby about a year ago :( so it might have gone to the bloke I sold it to). There were templates in the back for drawing them, so I'll see if anything is scrawled back there. The trick to the CS15 is making sure you're using the right amount of resonance: too much and it gets farty, too little and it doesn't thicken like rich cream.
@Darwinknows sorry for the late reply. You'll need EG1 set on KB trigger otherwise it won't use that EG (the point of having an ext trigger is when you plug another instrument like a bass and you won't be using the keys at all, so you need the bass to trigger the EG) As far as not getting the feedback, try basing what you're doing off the patch I link to in the description and tweak it. Like I say, it takes tweaking ;) also, check the back of your CS15 and make sure the ext input is set at -20
@pixusbubblejet Well, it depends on what sound you want- the CS-15 is a dual-VCO and the 10 & 5 are single. The two VCOs give you a fuller sound and can lend to more dynamic tones. If it were me, I'd save up for a CS-15, but stay away from e-bay- they're gouging (and have been for some time) synth prices like mad.
@acewing10 I don't know the long-term effects of using a mono TS lead, but since I don't use the headphones anyway, I'm not bothered. I just use a standard instrument lead to go from headphone out to ext in.
I played on this synthesizer for more than three years in the early to mid 80´s and please: Can someone tell me which modern synthesizer is capable of doing such a plethora of sounds nowadays.
Well, you just told me that it has a plethora, and I would just like to know if you know what it means to have a plethora. I would not like to think that someone would tell someone else it has a plethora, and then find out that that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora.
@leonsolo01 It was my approximation (at the time) of Shine On You Crazy Diamond part VI, got the right album though! ;) I've got the sound nailed down as best I can now- though Wright used his minimoog on the recording.
is it okay to plug a mono patch cable from the phones jack to the input to get the feedback? or should i use a balanced cable. I only ask because I dont want to damage any of the outputs or inputs. TRS or TS? thank you.
@stenophonic Hey man, just got me one of those babies and been trying to get that DP sound but even with the patch file i just can't seem to hit it. First of all, when i plug in the heaphones jack in the external input, should i get any sound hitting the keys or should i turn a knob? On the EG1 section should i switch to external as well or kept on KBD? The thing is i don't get that distorted sound which is the one i should achieve with the feedback loop right? Please help me out, thanks.
what sequencer is recommended for a 70s analog synth. i want to get CS-15 but have no idea about non-midi sequencers. i want to create arpegiator sounds through a sequencer.
