Yamaha DT400C WOW! I never expected this.

I know everyone will be terribly upset because I forgot my logo and sign-off screens. Ok, maybe not terribly.
I get a little further into the wiring on the DT400C's Vape ignition system. I run across a few things that I definitely wouldn't do and a couple things that it's going to take a bit of studying to figure out what they were trying to accomplish. As always though "We'll git-er-done"

Whew! My heart skipped a beat when I saw that thumbnail. I thought that cylinder laying on the workbench was off of my 400 at first. Did you do that to me on purpose Jack? 😂 I really appreciate all the time and effort you are putting into getting this thing straightened out. I had no idea it needed this much attention. Maybe W.W.Granger would have those stepped studs?

I didn't think about you possibly being concerned with the picture; I hope your heart wasn't shocked too bad. RU-vid brings up 3 options and that was the one that I thought best represented the video. The one YT chose was a picture of my workbench before cleaning.

Jack as a Navy Guy if the green wire on the turn light switch is on the right side (remember navlites on a boat, green is starboard or right side.) if its in the left just reverse with brown. i just fixed your wire color blockage.

Exhaust stud: l think you'll have to drill the cyl to accept an M8 or buy a few M8 fine thread studs, take your dt175 sample stud to a machine shop and get them to turn one end into an M6x 0.75 thread to match it.

You nailed it BananaBrooks. That's about what my options are. I've considered all of those things and one other. Find someone with a junk cylinder and buy it for the studs.

All that work on the wiring.I would have just bought the original stater and c d I box and put it back to original. I just finished my dt400 Gonna listen on ebay next week.

That was, of course, an option, but once you get into the rewiring part you find that wires are cut off, eliminated or rerouted for a different purpose, light bulbs have been changed and as you see, the work was all a bit, let's just say, Not up to Yamaha Standards.

I'm having pretty much the same issue with my 1975 dt175. Upgraded to vape ignition.

Which issues in particular Eric? I'm slowly finding resolutions and have a new plan that I hope will make everything, including lights and horn to work properly.

ever notice that wire colors are the same on Suzuki and Yamaha, probably all old Japanese bikes.

You'll figure it out, did you get the assembly instructions in the email?

I think I've pretty much got it figured out what I need to do. The trick is to make it so the next person won't have any trouble if something should fail. I did NOT get the instructions RC. Possibly email blocked it??? not sure. I did find the schematic and that tells me pretty much what I need to know until I have to troubleshoot a "no spark" condition or something like that. try hanover.jack@gmail.com.
