1971 FG-375s and a 1981 FG-365Sii. Similar look on the front, but different on the back. Different sounds also. Let me know what you think about the different tones???
I guess the '1971' for the FG-375S is a typo. This model went into production in 1977. It was in production for 5 years, until 1981. I have a 375S from 1978. It's a beautiful sounding and looking guitar.
I had the FG 365Sii for years before I gave it to my son. It truly has a sweet ring to the tone and projected sound well when you want to get a little loud. The down side is a high/ hard action (I even lowered the bridge saddle). Slowed me down and was sometimes tough to get clean bar chords. But for sound it was even cleaner than the Ovation I replaced it with.
That is the thing to look out for with these older guitars. High action is no fun, and not always easily fixed. I guess you can always use one to practice slide guitar on.
Two great ol Ladies. I tried to purchase a 365s this last week. It was in great shape on CL for $165!!! The seller insisted on holding it for 5 days until he could "show " it. Of course it slipped through my fingers!! IMHO the 365sii has a more quality sound you lucky dog!!! Lol. Thanks for posting!!
Picked up a FG 365 for 90 bucks at valu village a beautiful guitar with incredible warmth, neck was off course and straightened it, need to get some saaddle and nut work and might go some new tuners ick which ones, somebody had drilled 22 calibre size holes in the deck south of the saddle for what who knows a mike mount ?? Back in the day I owned yamah fg 180 bought twice used over 5 yrs, and they were and still are my favorite player but not with the richness of the dreadnought. I guy has to love those old Yamahas, had aN Ovation 75 ish and played a year and noticed that fibre back was like the difference between vinyl and cd quality, bright but too much edge lack warmth. Absolutely loved your video well done, calm , no acrobatics, Ace video my man , im 70 now. Tuners ??
I’ve always thought of the 365 being the solid top version of a 340 Have owned quite a few of both of those and for some reason the 340s always sounded better go figure The 340 is one of the best bang for your buck for a Yamaha that is the triple back version
Shhhhhhh - The Yamaha 365 Sii is a well kept secret in the player community, 'cause some people say they are really Martin's. See - back in the day, the owner of Yamaha got together with the owner of Martin and they had a little baby....no. Lol. I think it was dinner. Anyway they say the owner of Yamaha came away from that dinner with a Martin, which he supposedly took back to his factory, and you can guess the rest. That's why the secret's been kept on the down low among the community, I'd guess. All I know is I have one, and will never sell it. They are that good.
I hear you about keeping them on the down low. I have sold all my Yamahas and I feel the same about Yairi now and those are most of the acoustics I am holding on to. As long as the neck action is good, these Yamahas are not just great players, but they have such a deep and resonate tone. Since you like Yamahas, here is a playlist I made of all my old Yamaha videos. Vintage Yamaha Guitars ru-vid.com/group/PLQK1sC0YPqUpGtExZXlEpusAqCWvVEUYD
just picked up the 365, tri-back, got a 180 tri-back (rarish) FG200, 3 x 340 tri backs, 360 (brazil) 365SII tri, 470SA, 580 (brazil), all in various stages of restore/repair, I think 3-4 are strung up ready to play, each one sounds great IMHO, when they are all complete new strings broke in Imma do a comparo, thats after I find the 345 and 375, all I really want to round off that herd, more likely that not take the best of the 340's keep that for myself and sell the other 2, altho they are all about the same really.. those will help fund the 375 and 345.. all a guy really needs in the way of acoustics, maybe find a good 12 string I like the slotted headstock they did, the premier model, 570 whatever it is.. gold hardware... it used to be everyone was after the 140, 160, so forth, now they are ridiculously expensive and it makes no sense how a 160 can be 3 times the cost of a rosewood back and side solid spruce top? how I got so many, people passed em right up, what i picked up the complete 580 and 360 for I cannot say, its stupid but it was squier pricing... good for me, let em have those beat up 160's and 140's... oh and I really want one of the bird marker inlay models as well, almost had one... yours are very nice, two distinctly good voices each one just as good as the other in my book, appears you take care of them as well.. good idea for these older acoustics, keep the humidity as close as you can and as steady as possible.. should sing for eons... Appreciate the comments and sharing about your collection. I agree, these are under appreciated guitars. We both are building collections, but my focus is Yairi acoustics and Peavey electrics. I have already sold off my Yamahas. As I come across guitars like these, I try to document them before letting them go. Appreciate the feedback!
I haven’t handled one of those yet. I have a video comparing the FG340 and FG340T, and other one comparing the FG335ii and FG345ii you should check out. Thanks for watching!
I just did some trading and got a 365s they are a nice copy of a D35 Martin. These guitars are bluegrass cannons. I have an American Martin D1GT and the 365s I think is louder, the tone is not as rich as the Martin but the 365s sweet playing and sounding drednaught.
I don’t know as I already sold them both, but my guess would be they are the same. I want to say they were nearly identical other than back and side wood.
I just picked up a FG 340 the other day that I think sounds better than both. I will be making a video and posting it for sale too. Thanks for watching!
