Nice comparison, and great playing! I’m a big fan of Yamaha guitars. Purchased an FG-332 back in 1984 and I still have it! It’s now my pack porch guitar when’s it’s super humid or hot. My son was in the market for a new guitar and I suggested he check out the new Yamahas, he got himself a new FG830 and he loves it! That FG9 is an incredible instrument! Someday maybe! Thanks!
Hi James.. and Happy new Year ! As I listen to you strumming the FG700S, have to admit I am stunned that you picked up such a 'Beauty' 2nd hand... Yes, you have made some sensible additions / changes, but am thinking you simply improved an already good musical instrument. The tone and clarity is excellent and doubtless you have good microphone etc to capture same... I am very pleased with my own YAMAHA as I am pleased with my other Brands too. All different tones, woods and styles... Do have a 2nd hand 70's (1972) 'Beauty' of my own, which I purchased near new at the time, as a young man... Was on my way to pay the monthly electricity bill and came home with a guitar instead ! Have been "Joined at the hip" since ! Thanks for your demonstrations which are most enjoyable to listen and view.. Cheers.. Chris...
Thank you Chris and yes each make has their own “ring”….as my Dad used to say years ago “if you think no one loves you, don’t pay a bill”…lol…so get that bill paid…ha ha
Yes, a fine video, the only difference ( Iv'e found through my research) is the 700s didn't have Scalloped bracing, whereas tge newer 830 Has Scalloped bracing, more similar to the Martin builds (I think) 😊😮😮
Hello James, a technical point of view with your expertise. The FG5 has the ARE aging process. Do yu think that the guitar will continue to open and sound better with the time ???? Thks and best regards
Yes Bernard, mine is still continuing to open up. Each string change it seems to be “warming” up. Good guitars usually always sound better with playing and age if a solid top. Good question and thanks for asking 🤓🎶🎵
