The only absolutely amazing sounding drumset (of which I'm aware) that can be unpacked and set up in seven minutes. Plus it sounds outstanding! There are several clips in my channel playlists in which you can hear it, but here's a quick link to one of them anyway:

Isn't it great? Totally sounds awesome. I've used it to play for 30 people, and for 19.000 in an arena. If you mic it well, it totally SMOKES! I've also recorded three albums on it. By the way, I checked out your channel. Very cool! You've put a lot of work into that! Are you more of a drummer or more of an electronics guy? Where in the US are you based? 🙂

@@RobMaciak Hey Rob.... I have been a drummer for 47 years and gigged for many of them. I still am in a band here in Jacksonville Fla, and play gigs a few times a month. Electronics is my second hobby/passion. I enjoy repairing and building Tube Amps mostly, but do alot of tube radio restoration. Lots of hobbies to keep me busy when I retire in a few years :). I am glad you've used the HipGig in an arena. It can handle that with no problem !!! What a great set man !! Really nice to meet you brother

@@rciancia Awesome, Ron! Thanks so much for telling me about yourself, and greetings from Calgary, Alberta, Canada (about three hours north of the Canada-US border and 45 minutes east of the Rocky Mountains)! Out of curiosity, how did you happen across this video? I'm always curious about how people find my material.

I have the Al foster, but would love to have the Rick Marata as well. Totally agree with your first comment. Hipgig is totally awesome!

Thanks for writing, man! I’ve never actually had the opportunity to try an Al Foster (or a Manu Katche for that matter) and would be super interested to see how they compare. Where in the world are you based? Do you play a lot? :)

Hmmmmmm, would you play it like that? Or would more time be added for tweaking ?
@RobMaciak
@RobMaciak 11 месяцев назад
The time the guitarist will undoubtedly spend soundchecking themselves and getting their pedalboard in order will undoubtedly provide me with more than enough time for tweaking. The objective is to beat everyone else with respect to setup time, because normally the drummer takes the longest! NOT THIS TIME!!! Hahahaha 😃😄😅🤟💥

I used to do this in 4 mins. I used mine to jam at lunchtimes at work
@RobMaciak

I could probably do it in four minutes if I really pushed it. Cool that you did it so regularly during your work lunchtimes! You must have a super cool workplace! Where do you work?

@@RobMaciak I'm retired but I was freelance in the entertainment field. If there were enough musicians around we would jam at lunch. Lunch could be as short as 45mins so set up/tear down time was a big deal. I love the hip gig though I've modified it over the years.

@@RobMaciak I ditched the "floor" tom and snare arms and replaced then with 7/8th inch pearl style ones. I added a 5th tom bracket in-between the snare and floor tom brackets on the bass drum and hang the snare on that. I substituted a three hole tom holder for the two hole one. I run 10" 12" and 13" toms. I play open handed my ride is on the left. I slid the original snare holder a half inch round the bass towards the floor. I put a cymbal arm in there for my ride. I run a 17" and an 18" off the two hole "tom" holder on the 3 hole holder. For stability I added two gibraltar legs on the back off the bass drum which now sports 4 legs. So I have a five piece kit with 3 cymbals. The only stand I use is the Hi-hat. There is one additional case for the 10". The other 3 drums fit in the bass if you replace the plastic dividers with cloth. I also can replace the snare and three toms with Yamaha Oak drums 13" x 6 1/2" snare 10" 12" and 14" toms. (I cut the 14" in half to store the 10" in that. Same brackets. Case wise this means a 14" bag rather than a 10" bag. The back legs support the 14" tom hanging on the bass fine. I also put a "slice" in the throne so the I can sit 3" lower. (Yamaha supplied my the extra clamps for the throne.) Enjoy your HipGig. I love mine.

What size of case are you using for the bass drum haha got a rick moratta kit not to long ago and sorely need one!
@RobMaciak
@RobMaciak Год назад
Hey! I use the cases that originally came with it - the one for the outside of the bass drum is 20" by 22", the one for the hardware canister throne is 16" by 22", and the one for the inside of the bass drum/outside of the snare and two toms is about 14" by about 21". I don't know what I'm going to do if they wear out! I got the set (and the cases) in 2005, so I've just been looking after them really carefully. There are case companies that will make them for you, though. I know of a good one in Western Canada if that area of the world works for you! Feel free to get in touch if so 🙂

Hello!! Do yo have the model of your Hi-hat stand? is the best transportable kit, with awesome sound!! congratulations
@RobMaciak
@RobMaciak 2 года назад
Hey there! The model of the hi hat stand is Yamaha HS-HG (which stands for Hihat Stand - Hip Gig). As such I'm not sure if they make it anymore. It's single braced and it does not have the leg rotation feature, but the advantage of it is that when you break it down, it's compact enough that it fits into the canister throne with the rest of the hardware. If you wanted to try to acquire one, you may wish to reach out to Yamaha directly. I know the main guy for Yamaha Percussion in Canada and could put you in touch with him. Let me know if you'd care for that. Anyway, I'm really glad you like the kit as much as I do! Thanks for writing! :)

Didn't take any quicker than setting up a full size kit
@RobMaciak
@RobMaciak 8 месяцев назад
Perhaps not, but there are other advantages that have to save time. ie. If the kit needs to move after setup, you just grab the handle of the bass drum, slide it wherever, and everything stays exactly the same. Proportions are also easier to do very quickly as everything that's mounted off of the bass drum is memory locked on both axes, and loading into and loading out of the venue is also a lot quicker, since it's only two pieces plus a cymbal bag. I happen to place a fair amount of value on these things.
