I just got that guitar, I played 10 other guitars from $600 to $1200. This guitar sounds better than a high end Martin or Taylor. Yamaha knocked it out of the park with this one..
Just tested out and yes it sounds much better than Martin or Taylors that or in same price range. Sounds so rich and vibrant. I'm now looking to see something that tops this guitar and that will be tough to beat at the price.
I recently picked up an LL-TA in excellent condition and its fantastic. It's sound great unamplified owing to the thermal treatment of the top. It's rich, but bodied and resonant. When I plug it in through my Fender Acoustic Jr. its very professional sounding. The pre-amp is super clean and very strong. The onboard effects make it very versatile. I also have the LS-TA which I bought in 2017. I wasn't completely sold on the reverb of the LS at first, but in the newer LL-TA either the firmware algorithm has been tweaked or maybe its just the body size difference but it's noticeably rounder sounding with reverb on than the LS which rings with a more compressed sound. The smaller LS is a little more punchier in the midrange with a little bit more articulation and not as much sustain as the LL, but its very close. The LS when fingerpicked is a little more precise sounding. I have other guitars as well including a Martin but I'm pretty much sold on Yamaha's. They are reliable, well made and yes, a great value.
*My MAIN guitar along with my GUILDS* ❤ This Yamaha is great for street musicians and songwriters! Very clever design and wonderful sounding and build guitar. I do covers on my channel with the Yamaha LS TA Cheers friends and PLAY ON 💥
Ive bought guitars from.James when he owned his own shop. I bought one of these on the secondary market and played it last Sat.at ourBG club jam session. Talk about yer big hawg at the trough!!! I also hsve an FG TA.(used) I.have to play Small ball buying used instead of new. LL TA.is brighter IMO.
@@tarpley-music Thanks for answering! I have a Seagull S6 mahogany deluxe, which I love, but I was planning on upgrading for an all solid wood and this LL-TA seems cool. (I dont know if that would be actually an upgrade from the seagull though, because it's awesome)
I'm confused. It was plugged in the whole time, so when did we hear it without external amplification, or was the external amp turned off at some point when there was no sound hole aimed external mike.
Anytime the text says “Direct” or “+ Direct” the onboard amp is on. If it doesn’t then you’re just getting the microphone. At 05:37 you get the sound of the guitar with just a microphone.
The TA is superior. Build quality + wood quality, the LL-TA is essentially a LL16 (superior compared to the LL6) without the bling and without Yamaha's A.R.E wood treatment, to compensate for that the LL-TA has the TransAcoustic System shown in this video and it is 100% exclusive to the TA line.
Plugged in dry, it sounded horrible, a typical cheap piezo sound, all fuzzy and lifeless. AKG mic sounded much better, you could suddenly hear the bass, and the sound had more clarity and balance. The effects sounded cheap in both examples, direct and TA. No matter what you tried though, it sounded pretty cheap and uninteresting over all, and I say this as a massive Bert Jansch fan, who was a famous LL player. Maybe I'm spoilt with my Lowden and LR Baggs anthem pickup, but this is a million miles away from my guitar sound, not even remotely close.
I'd agree it didn't sound great in this demo. I have one, and I can tell you it's actually amazing. The guitar by itself with some phosphor bronze strings punches way above its weight/price class. The effects don't sound cheap. The reverb in particular has a sort of natural richness that sounds far better than a Tonewood amp can.
How come you never let us hear the guitar without the electronics by itself without plugging it in or anything? I mean, if it’s all solid wood it should sound really good.
That’s just an oversight on our part. This is an older video, that we plan on remaking now that we have better gear and a better cadence to our video production.
