I have an LL-16-12 and an LS-TA, both in rosewood, and considering the price, they are incredible! They sound every bit as good as a guitar that costs 3-4 times higher. I can’t wait to try one in mahogany. My AC-5 is monogamy, and is excellent. Wow. Yamahas are just so, so good.

I own an LL16 Rosewood. It holds its own against more expensive guitars and is a joy to fingerpick. I've had a Yamaha in the collection for over 50 years and this one is a keeper. The LL series is some of the best bang for the buck guitars I've ever played. I own two Martins, three customs, and I make sure this one stays in the playing rotation. The passive pickup is good, the maple binding is gorgeous, Quinton should have shown the back of the neck more, it is made of five types of wood and visually appealing.

@@codythedoggo7671the nut is 1 3/4 inch which I like. The ebony is lovely. It is slim quite shallow profile but not too skinny. The frets are dead level and the 5 piece laminate construction is very stable. You could dial in a low action without issues on these. I like it.
@howabouthetruth2157

It's a 5 pc neck, consisting of mahogany and rosewood. The 2 dark bars in the neck are the rosewood of course. This makes for an incredibly strong and stable neck that will likely never need a re-set, and very little adjustment of the truss rod, if ever, depending. 5 pc necks have always been known for great service over the life of the guitar. I'm about to buy the LL16D for myself real soon, and I can hardly wait. I have yet to see or hear any negative reviews about any of the LL16 Yamaha's. Even a master luthier ( Driftwood Guitars ) did a video review and heaped praise all over them, saying the LL16D exceeded his best expectations. That's saying a lot coming from someone who builds very high-end boutique acoustic guitars. 77@@codythedoggo7671

I just scored an ll16m for 500 bucks new a week ago. Last in stock clearance sale or something but by far the best 500 bucks I ever spent. Solid clean great sounding acoustic and it’s definitely worth the 800 bucks regular price. Mine was very boomy after strings were broken in and after adding slightly less relief in the neck with the truss rod adding a smidge more tension on the strings it sounds perfect. Perfect amount of bottom end and mids without being overwhelming with all that boom. Was a little to loud as well and it helped with the volume but I think that loud volume was from all that inane boomy bottom and mids but every thing is perfect now and still definitely plenty loud. But yeah incredible modern type tone that’s still definitely plenty warm sounding especially with the right pick and gauge and clean solid fit and finish for sure especially considering the price even at regular 800 dollar price point. Very very smooth strummer the smoothest I have ever owned and most definitely one of the smoothest I’ve ever played. Perfect for strumming at least the particular one I got is now that I have it set like it is. Smooth as butter 😎

Yamaha guitars -- can't say enough good things. I love my Yamaha FG 830. Solid spruce top, and laminated rosewood b/s. Very stable tuners. The guy I bought it from put in a strap pin and swapped out the bridge pins. I use D'Addario phosphor bronze 13s on it. I have four acoustic guitars. The Yamaha is the one I keep out, right by my desk, and I just love it. It's got that chug, as Q would say, and the neck feels like it was customized just for me. And the price was right. It's just a really nice instrument that makes me want to stop work and play.

I also own both a Yamaha and a Martin D-35 (1974). I have to say that the Yamaha is a workhorse. I've had it for over 40 years, and it's never needed anything more than an occasional truss rod adjustment. The Martin, on the other hand, is highly temperamental and has spent a lot of time in the shop for all kinds of minor nuisances like fret buzzes or loose bindings. The Martin is a beautiful guitar, but I'm actually thinking of trading it in for one of the higher-end Yamahas.

I own the rosewood LL16D and this LL16M (mahogany). I adore both. I opted to have a pro setup with bone n&s on the LL16D instead of the stock urea. Also PB strings. Totally made the guitar a beast according to the luthier. When it came to the LL16M I kept the stock urea (yes from cow pee) n&s because I loved the tone...so unique. In both cases I upgraded the pins to horn from plastic. The LL26 and above use bone n&s. On one guitar I "upgraded" (my view) but on the other I loved the original voice because these are so well built. You can luv em as they are or use them for a springboard. Outstanding!

@gooey_smoogy 11 месяцев назад
Which one do you prefer more? And what makes the LL16m sound unique? I can't find any LL16m in my local area to try out, but judging from many youtube videos, the ll16m impresses me more with strumming and seems to sound a bit warmer than the ll16 rosewood.
@tomformanek3312
@tomformanek3312 11 месяцев назад
@@gooey_smoogy Well it's hard to know what info you are looking for. Both have a large sound. Neither is voiced to be a bluegrass instrument with exaggerated bass. I really like mahogany guitars (Guild D20, Eastman e10ss, Yamaha FG3 and a Guild D1212). The LL16D is my only rosewood acoustic. I am happy with that. So I love that the LL16M is a jumbo in actuality. It has a big sound and the urea nut and saddle that add a crispness on top of the mahogany warmth and woodiness. The Englemann tops add another dimension. They resonate more warmly than Sitka or Adi. It is a really broken in sound. So I would say both are great, so choosing might best be made based solely on rosewood vs mahogany preferences. For a good comparion check out the individual videos by JP Cormier on Guitar Stuff with John. He really captures the tone. He generally plays them with factory strings and urea n&s.

@@tomformanek3312 I just bought an LL16 (rosewood) and I feel it is too bright and jangly sounding with too much in the way of overtones and harmonics for my style of mostly strumming with a pick and breaking solos when jamming with friends. I'm thinking I should have bought the LL16M. Can you compare and contrast your FG3 vs FF16M? thanks
@tomformanek3312
@tomformanek3312 9 месяцев назад
@@nspeer55 First it comes with 80/20 strings which are bright. Try phosphur bronze. Also ebony bridge pins may help. I found the use of bone for the nut and saddle took lots if brightness away. I think I love the Ll16M a bit more than the FG3. But I had to change to phosphur bronze strings first and buffalo horn pins.

That sounds brassy compared to my LS16M. Probably because of newer strings.
@firebald2915
@firebald2915 Год назад
Really thin picks make the sound brighter, thicker picks makes the sound darker. Where you play around the sound hole changes the tone. And string gauge... Lighter - more pronounced notes, heavier string- more volume but the clearness goes away.
