I think we are the point where both these pianos and keyboards sound amazing, but different. I used to feel one was better than the other due to the sounds and functionality being better. We are now at the point (imo) where it comes down to personal preference. I now feel with either of these keyboards, anyone can get the job done as both are very, very good and even if you choose one without knowing crap, you would still be doing damn good.
In the end it is a matter of taste. Both instruments sound good, showing remarcable achievements of the respective manufacturers. The Yamaha is a MODX8 featuring 88 keys GHS keyboard (7 steps dynamically sensitive), whilst the Korg Krome 61 is endowed with semi-weighted 61 keys keyboard with touch dynamics. A better comparison would have included the MODX8 and the Krome88. By chance, I use the Krome61 and I am pleased with it.
The krome has more than 5 variations of its Steinway German D grand piano sampled sound on its presets, it will definitely sound different to the Modx with different effects on its settings.
Korgs pianos are warmer than the modx. I have a kronos and a modx. Modx is great with guitars and synth sounds, but kronos is also a beast! Both greatly unique in their own way. If you ask me the best way is just buy a modx and a korg. And if you can, grab a Dave smith Prophet. Enjoy
Honestly depends what u need them for. I dont believe you can make a decision without playing them. These videos i fin amazing for narrowing down the search though. 👍
Nice playing-style, muzyk ! Very easy to listen to. I lean towards the modx, tho' I've a longer history w Korg. Prob is, I've edited my mox so much over last few years, but my edits are not tranferable to modx
Great playing. I Do'nt have the MODX but a MOXF8 and a Krome EX6. For me the Yamaha sounds bright and rich but the Korg more intimate. I like intimite :-)) On the MOXF i had to add 3th party piano samples. I also like the warm pianos in my Integra7
in my pro opinion both sound good enough to play live, and recommend both literally, i play live with 2 anyways..budget wise these two would be excellent. i use a Juno Gi at top and a Motif XF6 at bottom, i like the Juno because its light.
I have both of these in my studio and they’re both awesome boards! Now I’m going to say something that you guys might find it to be hilarious.... but most people are sleeping on the Casio px5s &. Casio px560. They should’ve been featured right beside these boards.
Szkoda że porównywane są tylko fortepiany. Warto pokazać pokazać jak brzmią naturalne gitary, basy, zestawy perkusyjne, dęciaki Przecież nie są to tylko pianina a wszechstronne stacje robocze. Pozdrawiam
I own both of these and Both sound great! No clear winner as both use high quality samples! In this video, the Krome sounds darker and meatier in the mids and the MODX is thinner and more bright.
i have both these , plus 2 others, thinking i must go buy a cape (ha!) you should have demonstrated a few more sounds as both have some great sounds . I have added a number of great new sounds from ''DAN STESCO''on my KORG. all is good.
Finally, Korg wins the piano sound. ModX has a good piano sample, but that krome, sounds like a good piano. I have one. One of the best purchases I’ve made
both sound stunning. Definitely prefer the sound of the korg piano but I hate the Korg keybeds these days if they re not weighted. Nasty cheap feeling affairs!
Jefferson, this is an interesting turn of events because Yamaha workstations traditionally have been known for sounding darker, warmer, and fatter than Korgs.
Licinius, Interesting because some people say that the Montage, and hence now also the MODX, sound thinner than the Motif XF; and, in some of the MODX vs. Krome comparisons, some believe that the MODX sounds thinner than the Krome. 🤔
@@bruin4937 Yamaha is still thoroughly beating Korg at piano if you try their various products in person. Roland is the one making pianos that compete with Yamaha quality, in my limited experience.
@@Jason75913 Which Roland do you think has the best pianos? I would love to try it the next time I visit the music store. Thank you for letting me know.
I am a critic of the piano sounds of the Korg brand. but in the krome krome you see an improvement and for the price is more than acceptable. The MODX yamaha is the same as the yamaha xs and xf. they are the same sounds that they use in all pianos and they change some effects and DX parameters.
There's actually a huge amount of new sounds from new waveforms not found in the Motif XS or XF that are in the Montage and MODX both. Some are better, some are equivalent, some in my opinion are not better. But, in addition too all the new stuff, the entire Motif XF soundset is also included. What made me not get the Montage and go for the Motif XF instead was the screwed up midi implementation and lack of a sequencer in the Montage/MODX.
I've always prefered the smaller footprint of Yamaha because they place the mod wheels on the top left of the keyboard instead of the far left which Korg uses. I didn't like the new higher price point so I'm hoping the new Krome will debut at under $2,000 USD.
I have all three the modx6 and roland fa06 and korg krome ex 61 I love the sounds on the korg krome but I realy doint care for the keys the modx6 is the best.
fuck i cry. i miss my piano riland juno di and iwas planning to upgrade to to yamaha modx, i want to go back as a musician but being a musician in my country in the philippines cant make a living i have my own family. now
Sent my MODX 7 Plus back, for some reason Yamaha is shipping them with gen one firmware (do they have to, seems lame). Anyway, at least some of them, including mine and several at my online retailer would not do a firmware update, so sent it back, got the Krome EX. So glad I did. My needs are probably different than most customers for either of these. I have arthritic hands and can't practice or play long on weighted keys, so I need semi-weighted with great acoustic and electric piano sounds. Trust me, the Korg blows the Yamaha away for both. No comparison, especially acoustic pianos. I had the original MODX before and didn't like the pianos, but thought with the free Bosendorfer piano patches it would work this time, but you can't install that without the latest firmware, so returned it. The Korg sounds better and is a few hundred less for 73 keys. Works easily with Logic Pro X, perfect for live or recording.
The korg is warmer. I think an hour listening to the yamaha piano can saturate me. The korg is more relaxing. I like to play ballads, I definitely prefer the Korg.
I love korg but I would buy the Yamaha modx6 because I can sample my own sound's, I hate the pitch bend and mod wheel in yamaha I wish they get the joystick it's much easier to Play
not a pianist, not even a keyboard player, a normal human being...not biased to any of them as I have a very little knowledge. but the sound that reached through my headphone from Korg is acutely sharp and crisp, no extra vibration, whereas the sound from MODX is a little harsh as it contains a bit more after-stroke vibration, even I checked that through my software too.
You were comparing 88 hammer keys with a 61 cheap keys. My experience, with the same keyboard but different version hammer keys and 61 keys are already different quality of sound touching.
Yamaha sounds are richer and crispier, but that kb is almost twice the price of the Krome, it’s not a fair battle. I ordered the Ex today, I’m very anxious.
@@felixayala05 Actually it is a little beast, I like how it sounds, there are lot of FX's (reverb, echo etc) you can add to the instrument to make it sound much better, YT videos reviewing this KB doesn't make any justice, almost all of them are recorded in a very bad sound quality. In general is also pretty complete, bank sounds, 16 track sequencer, piano roll edit, sound edition (sustain etc). It is an 8 out of 10.
@@mouwa7793 61 keys Krome, the 88 version is a hammer action keyboard and it is too hard for me, if you are not an experienced pianist I recommend you not to go for the hammer action because the keys are too hard and heavy, you must have strong fingers for playing, last month I experienced for first time a hammer action keyboard (Yamaha Modx 88keys, the same one as the video) and after 15 mins I didn't want to play any more because the keys are too hard, you have to have trained fingers.
This just simply isn't true. There is no difference in the piano samples used on the 61, 73/76 or 88 note versions of either the Krome or the MODX (especially given that the smaller models still need access to the full keybed range via octave switching and can also still be played via an external 88 note board). The only difference will be that the 88 note hammer action will allow more expression in the play, which could then therefore make it sound more realistic (in the hands of a decent player that is). I have used both the Krome 61 and the MODX6 with an external 88 note hammer action controller, and it adds more dimension yes, but the sample I'm playing is exactly the same as it would be on the 88 model itself.
Man, that yamaha sound horrible in comparison to the korg and I'm a Yamaha person. Just way to bright and thin. Of course, once it's eq'd and jas layers and stuff, it'll sound amazing! Then again, It has more pianos and voicings than what is heard on the video. Excellent comparison of the two instruments!!!
It is a good kb for beginners and experienced players, you don’t need a DAW, it has a 16 track sequencer incorporated, and hundreds of instruments in different Banks, this version comes with a piano roll, very useful to edit the recorded notes, similar a DAW. The only you will need are external speakers.
If u gonna compare pianos u can't have one keyboard an 88 key and the other a synth light weighted.. The 88 weighted obviously gonna sound more expressive... That's just common sense.
He should have controlled both from the same 88 note keybed, that would have been the only way to truly test them. Pretty sure he could have controlled the Krome from the MODX if he'd wanted to with just one Midi cable!
