Having a lot of tools in my arsenal, such as Montage, or other analog synthesizers, I very often go to my ES7 and spend many hours behind it. This is an amazing Motif series, ES7 will be used by me for many many years) I send greetings to all the owners of the Motif ES series, you are beautiful💪💪

If you are going to spend time doing something (this is if, you can even make a decent composition to begin with), spend the time learning and experimenting with processing. Compressors, Limiters, Eq, Reverb, delay etc. Once you know exactly how they work, and techniques used, and you can hear the impact you can make with the simplest bass drum sample(sometimes its only needed to trigger the fx chain), you'll be flying. Next step is understanding where everything sits in the frequency spectrum
Halion Sonic is reminiscent of the Yamaha Motif series. Well chances are many of Halion Sonic's sounds came from Yamaha Motif. I don't think Bert should smack the buttons though because you can damage the micro switches by putting that much force on them.
@KushLesko From what I can tell this synth is aimed at players that want a wide range of realistic sounds and I think it delivers. If you wanted up to date sounds then you need to be using analogue and programming your sounds or the latest software plugins or something like a V-synth.

If you play in gigs, and want to have the best song writing tool,then MotifES61 is the way to go.But if you wish to play at home,w/ some accompaniment, PSRs900 is very good. But IMO, if the price tag is not an issue, I'd definitely go for the MotifES61!i'm a Filipino who used to work for Yamaha musical instruments here in the Philippines,play keyboard too. hope i was able to help!:D

Why does this sound better than the Montage M?? The Motif XF sounds inside the montage M sound pretty thin and lifeless, but here these AMW2 patches sound amazing!
The Yamaha Motif XS series does NOT support Yamaha PLG Plug in boards. Taking that into account, you can do a whole lot MORE with the ES series than the XS series. For instance, if you wish to play the sounds from the Yamaha DX series i.e., DX 7 DX7 FIID, you can NOT use them on the XS series! Therefore, the Motif ES series can do MORE than this series!
Really? I bought my ES8,brand new, a few months ago. SamAsh was trying to sell their remaining stock before introducing the XS models. I still have to explore the machine's capabilities. Thanks for the info.
the motif brings excellent sound but a disaster in the housing material is iron and rust over time, unlike all korg your housing is aluminum and never deteriorates
I had the classic and ES both touched me paint them, buy them used and had parts with rust, I've had several korg aluminum and are a great advantage regarding the yamaha it can Filthy McNasty

Watching this years later, I can say it's pretty cheesy. But Bert's enthusiasm and playing are spectacular (check out other videos) and my Motif ES7 (bought in 2006) still sounds amazing and gets regular use in my studio. Wouldn't mind upgrading, of course...the XF is looking sharp.
I've had an ES6 for years and I've never gotten the whole sequencer thing figured out. Fortunately, I midi in to Sonar for alot of stuff, and/or just capture the audio of an ES font. So considering I'm not using a good percentage of its capabilities, I'm still able to get done what I need with it. I will look for 'ease of use' as a criteria for my next keyboard tho. Motif has a different set of menus depending on the mode yer in, sometimes thats quite a pain.
Go to this guy's web site and you'll know why the demo is sounding slightly cheesy AND why the new XS's sounds are supposedly icy and cold. This guy programmed most of the sounds!
The Motif ES series can also use the breath controller and this series can NOT! With all of the various plug in boards, there are possibly endless sounds that the Motif ES series can produce as opposed to the XS series.
How do you get user Bank 3 to play in multimode there used to be a program called cherry picker that would allow you to bring your programs to be seen when you play your es rack 8. I changed to the new systems so now when I open up digital performer 10 I don't see anything that's coming out of user Bank 3 I have all the preset Banks user Bank One user Bank two and all of the other drum Banks but user Bank 3 it won't let me see it in multi mode how do I fix this thank you so much
