Had such high expectations of Myself, but as it turns out, My heart is literally dying inside me. My heart is functioning with 30% and the rest is dead. No energy, no inspiration and no fun ! Sorry if I disappointed anyone, but as I see it now, My musical endeavors must be put on hold. I am however, very glad If I was able to help, or entertain some of you while it lasted. I'd hoped to deliver so much more, but it seems Life as I'd like it, won't happen anytime soon ! Hopefully, You'll all enjoy what I have done so far, and I wish You all great success in Your own endeavors ! Thanks for Your kindness and Patience ! Cya on the flip side ! :)

MOX8 owner too. Pat. This is a tutorial of tutorials. I think you did a swell job and I'm learning the basics from your video. I agree, the manual sucks eggs. Wish you could co-author a "For Dummies" book, you're funny and your music is very nice, bro. All the best. You did a public service for all of us. It's a great workstation with tons of great sounds to play with. I'm 62 now, and have been playing piano for decades. So, this is like having a band, and orchestra at my fingertips. You rock, Pat! All the best to you, sir.
@PoconoPat
@PoconoPat 8 лет назад
i'm 62 also, had to teach myself and borrow time on church pianos, and forgot I could for almost 12 yrs after a bad car wreck, so, that's the highest compliment ever! Thank you so much brother! :) You're very kind to say so! Thanks again!

Every word, sincere. I listened to some of your compositions and they reflect how you've begun to master this marvelous musical tool we have. Watched it again, tonight, and learned (absorbed) a bit more, so it's going to help make the manual a bit more understandable, since I'm doing it in real time. May God continue to bless you with musical ideas to share with the digital world. Keeps us young at heart, Pat. Learning new things in life. So glad you didn't give up. Used to own an MM6, the baby of the line, but found I'd outgrown it's limited sequencer, so traded up when I got the chance, because the Motif, was, and still is, just a bit too heavy to carry around past 60. Heck, past 40. that sucker's a beast, but built only for the stage or or studio use. MOX weighs in at a nice 35 pounds compared to Motif's 55+ lbs. Bad for the back at any age, that one. Take care, keep playing...

ALEX, Sorry to take so long replying. :) When You open up the "MIXER" while playing the particular recording or song you refer to, you can find the measure you want to start to change tempo on, and for how many measures, then set the tempo change over on left side of board on effects knobs, and then check it, and if liked, click "STORE" agree to the prompts, and when you play back the piece, it should register how you set it. you can change volumes, tones and effects in the same manner. remember to hit store always whenever locking in your changes and effects, or it wont be there when you restart machine. hope this helped. thank you !

I love this instrument, the piano is the best I've heard on an electric piano. For all what it does and the quality of sounds, I have no idea why Yamaha sell it so cheap. It features the same sound banks as the Motif and that sells at double the price. I picked mine up for around £550. However, the manual is the shitiest guide for help. You're pretty much by yourself working it all out. It's not too complex, but when you start delving into controlling transport control for your external sequencer through the Mox, or adjusting the midi clock it becomes a bit daunting. What I find frustrating is you can't delete isolated events through the sequencer, you can only extract them to another track, then delete the track you've moved them to. But a great keyboard nethertheless. Btw, if you select voice in song mode you can select what instrument you want through the normal category search way. This is better than doing it through the mixer as that way doesn't give you the name of the instrument.
@PoconoPat
@PoconoPat 9 лет назад
slapmyfunkybass Sorry I caught this so Late, But I agree totally, best PIANO EVER ! So Rich and beautiful Sounding, like a $40,000 Grand ! But, Changing Your sound in MIXER does show the Name of instrument, look again when You choose the track number, and edit the "VOICE", The Name of the voice will appear on a little strip on top, and Jog wheel and voice availability is still functional there as well. But, the screen Cramps everything into a little hard to read LCD, and For the Manual, It's a good Camp fire starter material. :) Thanks for Kickin back, love hearing from everyone ! Thanks again !

@PoconoPat 8 лет назад
You're very kind, and Most absolutely welcomed ~ :) TO STORE YOUR PERFORMANCE, FIND THE "JOB" BUTTON, CHOOSE "SONG" THEN NAME THE "NAME SONG " . USE THE DIAL, TO CHOOSE LETTERS ETC. AFTER YOUR HAPPY, PRESS THE BUTTON TO THE RIGHT OF "JOB" THAT SAYS "STORE" . PRESS "STORE" IT WILL ASK IF YOUR SURE, PRESS ENTER FOR "YES", THEN CONFIRM BY PRESSING ENTER AGAIN. YOUR SONG WILL BE SAVED AND AVAILABLE, WHEN YOU PRESS THE "SONG" BUTTON, FOR PLAYBACK. BE SURE WHEN YOU RE-RECORD A NEW SONG, YOU CHOOSE A DIFFERENT "SONG NUMBER" OR YOU WILL OVERWRITE WHAT YOU SAVED IN THAT SLOT ( i.e.- 1, 2, 3, 4, etc). be patient, not easy display to manage, but, you'll get it , I'm sure. there are 64 song slots, tho your memory, and amount of tracks in each song, will determine how much memory you've used. so, always back up your play on a recording device, or by recording to your computer using audacity OR WHATEVER SOFTWARE YOU HAVE AVAILABLE. GOOD LUCK, AND GOOD TUNES ALWAYS ! GO GET EM ! :)

After the wonderful reviews of the Yamaha MOX-88 Tutorial I made, ( Thanks ! ) Which I wish I made more seriously now, I will create a new one, with less "Me" and more in more depth hands on "How to" info, on how to layer, add effects, rhythms, etc. and assign instruments and set volumes & Tones to each separate track, along with Creation of a special cover song, step by step, recorded while You watch Me Create it. I won't say yet what it is, But it's on HBO, Current, and A Great theme song to use as an example ! Gimme a few weeks to buckle down, and I'll post it by end of MAY,2015 . STAY TUNED, and Subscribe for Updates as I post them, OK? Thanks for all the Great Support Everyone ! While I am No Genius, I will share what I've learned knowing HELP isn't as easy to find, and YAMAHA and the TUTORIAL DISC offered FOR SALE, just doesn't make it as easy as it should be. I do not make use of CUBASE, so Please, no requests there. I have enough trouble Remembering Who I am each morning. lol Thanks again ! See ya soon ! :) PAT

totally understand David. I cannot agree with You more.However, The Piano's on the Yamaha, are too authentic to ignore. But, I also, have a New Roland fa-08 and just haven't had the time to investigate it much. Good luck with it tho, it's a nice machine also ! It is also compatible with MIDi to the Yamaha BTW, F.Y.I. in case.

@PoconoPat
@PoconoPat 9 лет назад
IndependentSinema You force Me to be totally honest, and tell You that I play "Live" straight on when I record. I am not familiar with "STEP" recording unfortunately, as I suppose it is a very helpful thing to master. This is a very complex machine, and I, am a "Workstation" Virgin, being a PSR player for most of My experience. I also cannot yet master using Cubase, or such complex programming, as I don't learn well due to a head injury. So, I struggle, and always seek out shortcuts, others may find Totally ignorant, but, since I seem to get the job done best I can, I can settle. I would so much like to use all those other great features and manipulations, but, I fear, that is for younger, fresher minds. ( I hate saying that, But, I must be honest with Myself, and know My limits, right? ) So, Sorry, Can't help You. But, there are forums, like "PSRTUTORIAL.COM" where you can ask some great well experienced synth players, and I have no doubt, they can answer your questions better than I. There is a MOX forum available also, check google. forums.musicplayer.com / motifator.com also is very helpful especially in How to's and programming questions. Also, many links to sound files, etc. GOOD LUCK AGAIN ! hope this helped a bit. stay in touch ! :)

I saw on Musician’s Friend that you bought an FA by Roland. How do you like it? Where are your videos reviewing your new Roland FA?? The reason I ask is I have an moXF6. I narrowed my choices down to the FA-06 and the moxf6. I chose the Yamaha but can still trade in my moxf for the FA. I was going to base some of my choice on which one you prefer. Any help with my decision would be so very much appreciated! Thanks! And keep up the great work?
@PoconoPat
@PoconoPat 6 лет назад
The reason I haven't done a similar review or tutorial on the ROLAND FA is, It's not as easy to use as the Yamaha, doesn't have the same quality sound of a Yamaha, and generally, I wish I never bought it. Siund qualkity and ease of use, is the main reason I'm loyal to Yamaha. Hope that helped a bit. Good luck, choose wisely. Thanks for the Question !
@brohoop
@brohoop 6 лет назад
Pocono Pat, that helps a lot! I’m glad I asked because your review of the FA-06 on musicians friend was positive. But obviously you’ve used it a lot and now find your love of Yamaha remains ahead of Roland. I agree! I LOVE my moxf6! Glad you’ve convinced me to keep her! Thanks for your very helpful reply! Can’t wait for more videos from you!

Pat - can you process the audio input thru the synth options on this board, i.e. run a guitar thru the "cutoff" "resonance" sections?
@PoconoPat
@PoconoPat 10 лет назад
Haven't tried adjusting those aspects yet myself. However, Should EXTERNAL inputs i.e Guitars, keyboards whatever...get recorded on the internal, or an external sequencer, you can certainly make any adjustments at that point, USING SEQUENCER adjustments. But for live , I cannot say with any authority, Sorry. Still working out the kinks Myself. And overloaded My synapses with the New ROLAND FA_08 I just bought Just to drive myself insane for once and all :) . So, Brother, I am totally confused now...lol :) Good Luck tho' & thanks for asking...sorry couldn't be more help !

Pocono Pat morons at the local music stores cannot answer this either so don't feel bad:-) I know that the elcheapo Casio xwP1 synth gives you the ability to process an external audio input right into the oscillators in the synth, so was curious - Tks again

I was paid a High compliment a few hours ago, and I couldn't be more proud or Happy, to announce, at the request of someone in need, I will post a New Tutorial, More serious and detailed this time, on Using The YAMAHA MOX Workstation, AND, I will include information on getting started on The YAMAHA PSR-S950 Arranger , another complicated but Awesome Machine, and tool in creating Wonderful Music, and Adding Vocals like a Pro ! Gimme a few weeks to produce it, and I will post it quicker than a Bunny ! Well, Maybe not a Bunny, But, I'll Git er dun right quick like OK? While I am Not claiming to be proficient by any means, I have learned a few "get going quick" tricks, and have recorded many of My Best songs using My MOX ! It's an awesome tool ! Very daunting especially coming from PSR arrangers My whole keyboard career, But, DO-ABLE "with a Lil help from Your friend," Me. :) So, Keep an eye, it'll be here soon, and hopefully, I'll be less insane, and , well, no never mind, that wouldn't work ! Anyway... See ya soon ! :) Thanks ! Anyone crazy enough to want My MP3 downloads, can find em for free, here ! Enjoy ! soundcloud.com/poconopat and at poconopatrick.soundcloud.com
