Honestly for the price you just CAN'T beat the MT07. Yes, it doesn't have all the add ons like adjustable suspension, cruise control and rider modes. For the price it had to shave things off somewhere. Yet for what you get. It's completely bulletproof reliable and gives you a great ride. Literally fender eliminator, aftermarket exhaust, ecu flash, frame sliders and axle sliders and you're done. It'll be absolutely perfect then.
I’ve had mine since 2016. Put a black widow exhaust on it, blacked it out, new ohlins rear shock, shorty front fender etc etc. I just love my 07. I’m Scottish, living in Scotland, so my only complaint is that the frame can rust and the swing arm also is prone to rust. I keep on top of things though, and I can’t bring myself to sell it.
I think you’re making an argument that no one actually says…I don’t know a single person that hates on the MT07. It’s priced too well to worry about fit and finish. Now some guys do not like the 09 or 10 because of the build quality for price but hey, it’s all in the engine. Seen plent of Cp3 engines on the Facebook groups with over 100k miles
The steel frame is what keeps me from buying one. My dad had one for many years, and although it was a fun bike, the frame started rusting. The cheapness will show itself in time. I accept the fact that the mt07 is cheap. It reflects the lower price, and means you can ride it harder without worry. If it had an aluminum frame, adjustable forks, higher quality brakes and other components... I'd happily pay more. I prefer to pay more, and get something higher quality.
I ride in the winter snow and salt, I'll let you know if I get any rusting issues. You have to keep it clean in the winter. It shouldn't rust unless you scratch the paint.
Tracer 900GT has squatty and cheap suspension... When i bought 07 after it, I was so surprised the suspension is so good that i didn't need to change it even when riding two up. When you get 07, you get a complete bike where you can change only cosmetic stuff and exhaust if you like louder sound.
I have to agree comparing base model to base model 07 to 09 the suspension on the 09 feels way worse. I rode an 07 for a while, bought an 09 and the front felt like a pogo stick and the rear is terrible. I just did the Dave Moss suspension set up for my 07 and the front is even better than it was and WAY better than my 09. Hoping to do front and rear suspension on the 09 at some point if I keep that bike long term. Been considering a super sport for track days and an 07 for all things street riding (with occasional track days of course!) since on the street I ride like a grandpa with all the damn traffic where I live
I love my 2018 MT07. The only complaint I have about it, is the gas tank could be a bit bigger. Dude, you ride with the indicators on alot on this bike! lol, be safe brother!
I absolutely love my MT07 that I just bought a month ago. Unfortunately, it came from the factory with some sort of electrical problem and basically stopped running at 300 miles. She's back in the shop for warranty repairs right now, this is the first time i've every had a problem with a yamaha! I'm hoping it's just a bad wiring harness.
I have to be honest, my 2014 MT-07 felt more cheaply made than my 2006 MT-03 but that doesn’t mean I hate either bikes, in fact I really miss my MT-07 and loved every second I owned it. But I have to say, even after crashing the 07, doing wheelies and long distance trips it held up and never had any issues. I still found it cheaply made but it’s an amazing bike regardless. Saying that my Husqvarna 701 cost double what I paid for my MT-07 and that felt more like a cheaper bike lol
Jake beat up his FZ-07 and even turned it into a ADV bike and beat it up off-road and it was fine. That is a quality bike in my book. Do you still have the Husky? How is the reliability?
@@CycleCruza sold the Husqvarna 701 after 2 robbery attempts, soon as I moved to a city I became a target :/ Bike was great, I abused the heck out of it, crashed it, wheelies and commuted like 260 miles a week but the service intervals, unreliable stock clutch slave cylinder and seat comfort put me off. I mean I still enjoyed it and loved every second apart from riding on motorways 🤣 I found the clutch plates wear out quite fast too but easy enough to replace.
@@CycleCruza oh yeah I’ve seen Jakes build, it’s quality. On my 07 I had bolts vibrate loose, parts rusting here and there, I can’t complain for the money it’s an amazing bike it just felt cheap compared to my other bikes.

I have a 2017 FZ-07 and I have to say it is an affordable and very nice bang for the dollar, but I have to say it is a very good bike for avg. riders and some flaws for hard to overlook for some. Pros: - Weight/agile - 270° crank/ torque . Engine - 180 rear tire Cons: - Steel frame/ rust very easy - Front suspension 👎 - Clutch/no límited slip (must rev match) - Throttle ( twitchy )/ controls
I love my 2019 MT-07. Have almost 13K miles so far and bought it new. Might update the rear shock to a Ktech Razor light this winter. Hate to say but I don't know what a so called great suspension feels like. Came off a 2018 Rebel 500 to a MT-07. That is all the experience I've had. LOL. @cyclecruza you always look for fun stuff, research the Healtech quick shifter. Made it fun going through the gears. LOL. I will not get rid of the bike unless they put a proper Cruise control on it. Could happen since it is slowly becoming standard on bikes at this price range. CF Moto and the Honda Hornet.
Last comment. Point: the plastic tank is cheap to replace Counterpoint: the cheap frame is easily damaged and if it gets tweaked then replacing that tank for cheap won’t help you stop your bike from riding down the road funky af like it’s been sippin on some sysssssurp, sip sipping on some sip, sippin on some sysssurp
@@CycleCruza easily relative to bikes with better frames. It’s just been the consensus of people like Dave moss and ari Henning and others. When the MT07 came out there was some thought it would likely take over from the SV650 as the new cheap (in a good way) and accessible track bike. But it’s frame and subframe are tiny af and when you inevitably wreck, even with frame sliders etc, that frame tweaks more at the same speed than bikes with beefier frames. Same applies on road but obviously it’s hard to get as much data from road accidents. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that’s a reason to avoid buying the bike. I was simply saying that while there’s benefits to using cheaper materials, like the tank example, there’s also going to be examples of those design choices being detrimental. It’s like the Mustang or the Focus RS compared to BMW’s and Audi’s etc. everyone knows they’re built cheaply in comparisons. That’s not just a rumor. You can take it apart piece by piece and see the examples. But the Mustang and the focus RS, like the MT07, are vehicles that were made around a dope motor and all the money went to the motor, and as a result people that normally couldn’t access such an amazing motor at that price point now can. I’m buying either an MT07 or an XSR, so I’m glad they took the hot rod approach and built it to a price, im just saying it’s ok to recognize that, 99% of people won’t ever find out that frame is weaker in comparison to some other options. Cheap doesn’t have to mean bad.
That is the main reason I got it. It is such a comfortable bike, nice grunt, sounds awesome and you can whip it around because it is so lightweight and flickable. It is a wheelie machine too.

You really need to clarify the older MT-09 when you bring up stuff like the suspension and chassis. Yes I’d 100% take any year of the MT-07 over the first 2 generations of the MT-09 but not the new one. The new one isn’t perfect but definitely worth the upgrade from MT-07 now. The SP is worth it if you can find one but to me more for the cruise control than the Ohlins rear. Nice bling but it’s not like it makes it a track bike. The Street Triple RS is still the bike to get for the track

You can't beat the value of this MT-07 / FZ-07. I highly recommend getting one, everyone I know who got one loved it. It is a fun bike and sound so good.

Don't think anyone is claiming the MT-07 or any Yamaha is cheaply built. Looking at lot's of reviews, haven't heard anything about that. Not sure where that comes from.
Its a good looking bike, never seen them in person. Im from McAllen Texas there not much sport bike dealers here. From what i see online its the attention to detail.
Expensive doesn't always mean quality either! I work at a Nissan garage and the moment of stuff that's super overpriced and expensive to buy are cheaply made it's insane 😂
I have 2 high hp bikes. But I totally get the MT-7. Light and flickable. If it puts a smile on your face, then it’s right. Also, I LOVE My sur-Ron! Thing is a blast in populated bike/dirt paths. Nice and stealth
The fast bikes are fun but when I had them I spent most of the time chugging around the city on them and its not that fun in the city, heats up at stop lights in the summer too. Small bikes are so fun, Sur Ron is really fun off-road, I had more fun off-road on it then on dual sports.

The worst thing about the bike is remembering the stupid blinker. You are having so much fun driving that you forget to turn off the blinkers almost every time
Bro some of the highest rated cars and bikes are cheap and made cheap. It doesn’t make them bad but just because they’re good don’t mean they’re not cheap/budget either it goes both ways. If you want to ride it and that’s all you care about then buy it and you’ll never look back, if you want a engineering masterpiece it’s not your ticket. Tale as old as time. It’s wild how cheap the mt07 frame and hardware is compared to the CBR650R. It’s all about what you want though. We win as consumers when we have options, not when all bikes are made like Yamaha’s or like Honda’s. Contrary to popular opinion the CB650R isn’t “overpriced”, it’s just overbuilt.
It depends on what you mean by cheap. The MT-07 is not made of cheap metal or built cheaply, it just has some budget components but they are still good. KYB suspension is held in high regard in the dirt bike world, this MT-07 KYB suspension is made well the fork just does not adjust but it world great for city riding as long as you are not fat and not riding 2 up. I will say Honda usually put higher end components on its bikes made in Japan. However, yamaha makes more thrilling bikes. I wish Honda would put more torque/grunt on their bikes. They make so many bland bikes. We'll see how this new Hornet is tho.
@@CycleCruza agree across the board. That cb650r is gorgeous and so well put together with great fit and finish, and it should for the price, but it needs a turbo to compete with the mt07 torque. I actually been considering a turbo build on a 650. The hornet looks great on paper but It looks kinda ugly. I hope it’s great but I suspect it will be more a Yamaha or kawi style approach than the typical Honda approach that leaves their bikes feeling a bit more premium than the other Japanese bikes, but that’s what the markets been asking for so it is what it is. I stopped holding my breath for Honda years ago though

It will be the bike that’s whooped on though not the bike that I sit on the porch and drink while I’m staring at it and talking with friends pointing out all the little things that make it nicer than bikes built cheap af. Don’t get it twisted the frame of your YZF Is like high quality af, and expensive and well built, the MT07 isn’t and that’s ok because they made it cheap so they could sell it cheap. @@CycleCruza isn’t the subframe where his fz07 wound up breaking as well? I’m pretty sure it did but I’ll have to double check that. It’s not that it’s a trash frame, it’s just not as robust as some competitors. Look at a CBR650 frame or a KTM 690 frame compared to the mt07. You can probably even see in pics how much less substantial they are. That ain’t going to stop me from buying it, I get why it’s not everybody’s thing though and their willing to pay more for something that feels a bit more premium across the board. It’s just all about options and mt07 arguably is the most important option and it proves that by putting pressure on its higher cost competitors so when people call it cheap I don’t take that as an insult. Damn right it’s cheap that’s why I saved $2k compared to y’all😂

Honda makes vanilla bikes with no grunt these days. The CBR1000rr was fun and I hear the new one is great but Honda naked bikes are not too exciting. We'll see how the new Hornet is with that new twin engine.

I own the sister bike XSR700. It’s very plasticky….what matters is that Japanese hand build the engine in Japan. It’s cranks every thumb flip, it’s got huge parts selection, they’re hooligan bikes! They are what they are! Real talk…The front forks are trash. You can upgrade that
I recommended the s bike I knew you’d love it. Very similar power to my 2008 sv650 just a tad more torque 2 of the bikes I own they all say have stock suspension that’s Not rideable as it’s too soft. I ask what do you weigh? They say 285-320lbs it’s like guys you are in the fattest one percentage of the world if you are near my height. At mx racing weight the suspension is fine ,and I can rip on them fine. Big difference between me at 160 lbs ,and someone double my weight. These bikes were not made stock for 300 lb + fat Americans period. I would possibly upgrade my front forks if I was tracking it a lot ,but it’s fine on track as well. These guys won’t take rider weight into consideration at all , and that it is astonishing to me. Every bike will have perfect suspension for a certain weight rider once sag is set properly. The worlds average weight for a male is likely around 150lbs with all of Asia included. The new sv 650 is much heavier than my like new 08 less power and over a gallon smaller gas tank. I’m glad I bought one like new that’s better for 4,700$ less money!

1460 wheelbase and around 18kg heavier than 07... That usually means less flickabilty and less fun. But the bike looks great... Still 07 is the king in my opinion. The engine character of cp2 can't be replicated also..
@@veljkovic92 the 07's wheel base is a little too short. It makes it not that stable going 100+mph. The added torque should make up for the longer wheel base so that it's still flickable but also can roll 130 mph down the highway without any issues. The engine character of the 07 hasn't been replicated YET. I'm optimistic lol

I prefer wheelbase to be lower as the bike than is more flickable which is much more useful than being more stable above 160kmph for most riders including me... Yes, but that’s ok. It’s made to a price point. That doesn’t mean it’s not amazing and it’s not built for motorcycle enthusiasts. But it’s not built for engineering enthusiasts that love bike quality. The plastics are meh forget about that, but it’s made with the cheapest tube steel possible, lowest gauge possible, and they cover it up with little fashion covers that make it stand out less. Just look at the naked frame and you’ll see it. Does that take ANYTHING away from riding it? Nope, zero. But all the money went into the motor. Take that for what you will. the Trident is an example of a budget bike that’s built better. I feel like people hear that something is built cheap and to a price and think it means it’s crap and it doesn’t. They’re two different words for a reason!
From what I've heard the MT-07 is more fun to ride than the Trident. I just don't see where the MT-07 is built cheaply, it doesn't have top end components but that doesn't mean the bike is made of poor quality. I;'e seen a motovlogger (Jake) turn the bike in to a ADV bike and beat it off-road with no issues.

And I'm here to tell you, it is cheaply built. The plastic is thin and cheap. The suspension is cheap and garbage. It cost me less than $300 to fix the suspension problem that Yamaha shipped the bike with. $300 I would have been more than happy to pay up front for the cost of the bike had they put the right suspension on it at the factory. The throttle is a choppy joke. It takes a good tune job to smooth out the throttle and get rid of the choppiness. The LCD looks like it came from the early 2000s. The bike retails for less than $8,000. There is no way to say that a bike that retails that low is not cheaply made. If that bike weren't cheaply made, it would cost a lot more. Yamaha put a great engine in a cheap shell and sells them hand over fist every year. Other examples of good engines in cheaply made bikes... Z900. Great engine, and a great riding bike. Cheaply made. Suzuki SV650. Legendary engine, smooth riding bike. Still, cheaply made. You want a fairly inexpensive bike that feels more premium and not so cheaply made? Go with the Triumph Trident 660. But even to get that level of premium, you're still spending close to 10 grand. Again, I have the MT07 and like it a lot and, it is a fun bike but... It is a cheaply made bike.
I’m a UJM fan but I think the quality feel may be inferior to the European ones but doesn’t mean it’s cheap built but the Japanese bikes fells different. That Yamaha-Davidson sounds nice 😅
It’s definitely cheap though. Like they literally cost less to build and use cheaper materials. Having said that in the way, it’s just all the more impressive that they managed to make such a great bike so cheap, but they did the classic hot rod move and put all the money into the motor and for this type of bike that makes a perfect combination.
I've had a Ducati and an Aprilia and trust Yamaha bikes much more. However, I do love Ducati bikes but I don't fully trust them yet but their reliability is getting better.
@@CycleCruza understandable, Ducati is getting better in part thanks to Volkswagens ownership…compared to aprillia they’re the most reliable bikes in the world, compared to Yamaha they’re trash
@@CycleCruza I do too i put 50000 miles on my MT09 and the only thing I changed was the chain and fluids not even a valve adjustment and I sold it for a Z900rs café. Hope the big 4 will bring some good stuff at EICMA this year. Ducati and triumph did amazingly well
Cyclecruza get a HD low rider s just to get the experience, i think you judge Harley’s too much based on your experience with that breakout, these new engines are the truth !! I promise you, just do like a year long test, you could always resell it based off Harley’s resale value

Even the new MT-09 is cheaply built compared to the previous generation (I owned one and test drove the new gen bikes including the SP version), so stop hyping up the even more budget MT-07...
I truly enjoy this MT-07 and it is quality bike. I keep it real with you all, if I truly did not like this bike I would have told you all and sold it fast. I plan on keeping this bike along with my YZ450FX supermoto. I might add another bike tho.
