This Video demonstrates the process on how to replace the mystery filters located on the Yamaha HPDI outboards. These Mystery Filters are located in the high pressure pump.
Yamaha does not sell this part as it is not in the parts manual.
Filter basket 6mm x 3mm x 14mm.
You can find them at most marine parts stores or injector shops. Same one that goes in the HPDI Injectors too

Hi, great video, thanks. I have a 200 hp HPDI. I just rebuilt the engine, but it was sitting around for a few years beforehand, so there may be fuel residue in the high-pressure pump. The engine runs well, but will not rev beyond 4400 RPM. With the prop that’s on it it, it should at least get to 58 mph it only gets to 45. I’m about to change out the mystery filters, but should I also be looking for any gunk in the high-pressure regulator, etc. are there any other parts in the pump I should be cleaning out? Thx Rob
@ReelTeaseFishing
@ReelTeaseFishing 2 месяца назад
@@RobPerrins-lx2jd as far as the pump, you can hook it up to the YDS software and make sure it’s out putting over 700psi. If that checks out then the HP pump is good to go. Do the filters and I’d also highly recommend sending injectors out to service. Make sure the location can service injectors over 800psi. Most can’t
@RobPerrins-lx2jd
@RobPerrins-lx2jd 2 месяца назад
@@ReelTeaseFishing thx for the points. I had already put refurbished injectors in it. The fuel pressure is 685 psi, but the YDS says 725 + or - 116 psi, so it looks in spec? I just changed the filters in the injectors and didn’t notice and debris in any of them. However, there may be something minor going on with cylinder number two. When I did the running diagnostics and dropped out each cylinder, the engine slowed down after I dropped out cylinder number two, but it stalled out when I dropped out every other cylinder. Oddly, as I finished doing the test, the idle sped up from 700 to 900, almost like something had just cleared out. However, I haven’t water tested it since then. Just about to change out the mystery filters in the pump. Then I’ll fire it up out of the water and drop each cylinder out again and see what happens.
@ReelTeaseFishing
@ReelTeaseFishing 2 месяца назад
@@RobPerrins-lx2jd I think you are headed in the right direction. If for some reason that injector # 2 is giving you doubts you can swap it to a different cylinder and see if it follows. If it does, then it has me wondering if that injector is staying slightly open. I wish you the best, HPDI are very finicky. Hoping she runs fine when you water test
@Footin100

@@ReelTeaseFishing I changed all the mystery filters, reset TPS, cleaned O2 sensor. All the fuel filters were changed before. HP pump reads 684 psi on YDS. Note WOT TPS is 3.84 v. (Is that enough?). The engine starts and idles ok. It just will not go over 4400 rpm and 45 mph. Before the engine rebuild it did 58 mph. Now I haven’t checked the HP pump pressure at WOT on the water yet. Engine did sit for 6 years before I put a rebuilt powerhead into it. However, the vapour separator was clean inside. The fuel filters were all changed, and it has only seen fresh fuel after the rebuild. I’m really not sure why it can’t hit top RPM. During eight hours of break in I also ran seafoam through it. I’m starting to run out of possible solutions . Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Immediately after the rebuild, I ran extra oil in the air intakes and made sure there was proper oil feed to each intake.>.. lots of smoke. After that, I changed out the plugs.
@ReelTeaseFishing
@ReelTeaseFishing Месяц назад
@@Footin100 these HPDI’s will have you chasing your tail. Very important to have a good battery, good battery cables to the outboard and clean contacts. Then I would make sure that all cylinders are firing at WOT I’d have the YDS hooked up while running and see if you get any bad readings.

Okay I did it! I replaced only the gaskets and packing kit that were visible….. I noticed on the starboard side of the motor behind the plate there was a little bit of rust on a small area from inside the plate. there’s two little round balls on top of each other. I don’t know what their purpose is for there was some buildup around those, but the other side was super clean…getting the filters out was very hard I had to use a bigger screw after stripping out the plastic insides of the first filter I did. When I put in the new ones, they were the identical size but putting them in they didn’t seat in all the way I tap them like you did in the video I hope when I put the plates back together they get pushed in flush? I wish I could send you some pictures, but I already put it back together. If you have any idea or know what those little round balls are they are about an eighth of an inch in diameter and they sit in the middle between the pipes in the middle. Everything went back together perfectly fine and I made sure to lube up everything before putting it back together. I even used fogging oil that Yamaha makes it is super slick.
@ReelTeaseFishing
@ReelTeaseFishing Год назад
If the filters didn’t push in fully they will when you tighten it all back down. Those small ball bearing looking parts work as check valves/relief valves for the high pressure fuel rails. The move slightly when pressurized.
