Love the sponsor part at the end lol. Still struggling to choose between these two. Want to get my hands on my first keyboard but want to make sure I make the right choice. To my inexperienced ear the 373 seems to have a richer sound. If Casio bring out a replacement think my head will explode with the indecision! Keep up the videos Jeremy I’m enjoying watching and learning. When I do finally get a keyboard will be viewing your courses

Here is my opinion on the new PSR-E373 which I bought a few weeks ago. If I had known that it had a serious MIDI problem, I would have looked at something else. It's a fine keyboard to use live but used as a 16 tracks multitimbral synth it sucks real time. According to the manual which I had read before buying, it should respect the Yamaha XG specs and use bank control messages to access all the 622 presets, but it does not. Whatever bank message you enter in your sequencer, the chosen preset is always in the XG bank, which means that you don't have access to the voices which are in another bank. I have tried every thing available in the system exclusive department, even sending the code to force it in accepting controllers 0 and 32 but it simply doesn't work. The funny thing is that the keyboard DOES use bank select messages internally but does not accept them externally. I found a way to make it work but it's a real hassle. I program a MIDI sequence using the bank select messages and transfer it in the flash memory of the keyboard, then the messages are accepted and I can use any voice. The problem is that I don't know in advance how the whole song is going to sound like so I have to do the transfer as many times as the number of voices in the mix. Yamaha could solve this problem simply by doing a firmware upgrade that would unlock the whole use of MIDI control. When I contacted them, they said that the instrument was quite limited and they they weren't too sure what I was talking about. I wonder how many models of consumer keyboards have these limitations. How is yours?

Many of the styles in Yamaha PSR e373 don't use the new DSP and the super articulation light voices that's a little disappointing but still to my ears it sounds better than the Casio CT x700
@boxnbanjo1
@boxnbanjo1 3 года назад
They both sound great, but I’m wondering if the Casio styles are a little too “busy” when you play a melody with your right hand. Notice how the Yamaha lays the chords and bass down nicely without stepping on the melody. Just wondering. Thanks for showing us the styles Jeremy !
@aj6954
@aj6954 4 месяца назад
That`s one way of putting it, but it is a major fault and can render a style unusable, you can`t use a style that has its own little tune going in the middle of it. There is an A or B somewhere on the 373 where Yamaha have fallen into the trap but generally they are very good at just sticking to the basics.

I watched the whole video. Casio seem to have done a great job with both mix and eq of most of these backings, with tasteful use of the stereo field which i would imagine leaves space for a right hand melody/chords. What is going on with a lot of these Yamaha rhythms? They are often panned to the left of field, and not very nicely EQed and with a few exceptions not mixed very well compared to the Casio, on which the drums also seem better. I'd need to play both to make a decision, but this round goes to Casio.

Sempet kepikiran antara ctx 700/800 atau psr373, akhirnya saya memutuskan utk mengambiiiilll.... eng ing eng >> psr 463...!! Gag nyambung y... tp mgkn masih berkaitan koq penjelasannya.. krn pas saya coba antara ctx 700/800 ma psr 373, utk suara lbh suka yamaha yaa.. walaupun banyak yg bilang suara casio krn lbh real, ntahh knp saya lbh suka suara yamaha ya, beneran harus coba bandingin suara antara keduanya, kalo bisa dengerin langsung ya... walaupun mgkn utk fitur2 sama variasi style lbh unggul casio, tp kalo buat saya keunggulan suara yamaha lbh utama dibandingkan fitur2 ny casio, makany saya milih yamaha.. nah kalo nanya kenapa pilih 463 bukan 373, krn suara yamaha udah ok, fitur live control ma groove creator menurut saya sebanding dgn kelebihannya makanya lbh mantep pilihanny ke yamaha 463 dibanding 373.. Tp kalo antara psr 373 ma ctx700/800, saya lbh milih 373 krn pertimbangan suaranya tadi...

Wow for Casio! I'm a PSR-S950 owner and I can say that Yamaha always like to recicle their styles and sound... maybe since 1998 or so... So Casio is not only giving fresh air to the market, but also is forcing the other brands to update their products. Very good performance for the CT-X700!

I think both are nice in their own way. Casio felt more bright and varied, though seemingly less clarity quality, while yamaha has better voices and clarity quality, though I don't know how to say....it sounds "old" sounding? Like old style music sounding, a little bit digital-ish sound, though it sounds so much clearer. I don't know though, I don't know anything about music. Just a layman's observation.

Hello Jeremy, As always a very good video. I had an idea and want to know if it is possible for you. We have had a lot of videos about Casio CT x 5000. How wonderfull the tones and rhymths are. But I always wonder, How for You, your favorite settings in delay, chorus and reverb of this kboard are. Say for the favorite instruments like piano, e piano, organ, t sax and strings. When you play these intruments, what are your favorite settings. All the videos talk about settings of the intruments, but settings can improve your playing or destroy it. You'll probably think it's a personnal demand, but I'm sure many players have interrogations about these three settings. In the meanwhile keep working, you're the best. Regards. JP

not easy, a bit of a mixed bag from either the casio or the yamaha. On casio's plusses i'd say the transitions and defo the endings on the casio were way more superior with detailed endings and even slow down and rolls ala a real band. Casio overall had better styles and different sections. On Yamaha they programmed many styles more open sounding.. hi lights were the Hawaiian and xmas tunes for yamaha, generally the drum section was better on most styles form the yamaha.

@JeremySee
@JeremySee 3 года назад
There is a good use for these. These are great for calling out songs and setting things up to play within minutes. Not everyone aims to be a technical concert pianist spending hours on Hanon exercises everyday. In my cultures, these keyboards accompany singers and other musicians for entertainment without having the luxury of a readily available 5 piece band. And you can get the world's best pianist and he wouldn't be able to generate percussion, bass, guitars, keys all in his own without any technical aid with just 10 fingers.

Mr. See, my question to you, from what I have found out,.... one important diferent between both keyboards is that Yamaha uses an audio format better to save rhythms, it is of the WAV type, which has better quality and you can obtain more variety of rhythms to download, however the audio format that use the casio ctx700 it is type AC7, this format is old and rhythms are not easily available for casio, could you give me your opinion on this? because in am listenig an excellente rythms' sound for casio ctx 700 regards from colombia

Many thanks for the comparison and also for the other videos about the Casio! Today I got mine, I have to feel my way around a bit. Your videos are a great help to me! .I think the Yamaha comes across as more serious in the accompaniment and not so overloaded, but many rhythms also sound like German Christmas carols, which may not always be appropriate. .the Casio is a little fresher and perhaps closer to the original, especially when it comes to exotic things. keep having a good time and have fun 😊

Maybe it's just personal taste but it seems the Yamaha's styles and rythms seem so boring and dull compared to those of the Casio? Been practicing on a Yamaha Ydp-141 digital piano and wondering if a keyboard could help me on my path to improve my piano skills, since it has rythms and styles build in. Thinking of buying a Casio CT-X5000 though.

Hi Jeremy, new subscriber here. I've been binge-watching your videos! I'm planning to buy either the Casio CT-X700 or the CT-X3000. But after hearing these comparisons, I'm wondering if Yamaha has a similarly priced/spec'd alternative for the CT-X3000. Would you happen to have a video comparison? Edit: Found your comparison video, "Does Yamaha PSR-E463 Sound Better than Casio CT-X3000?" I think I'll stick with the CT-X3000. I really appreciate your videos!

Do Casio pianos Matt and ivory finish overdone, because I heard a lot of people who have tried it saying the finish is overdone and annoying, so what do you think?

Wouldn't the better comparison be the E463 to the 700? Aren't they closer in specs?

A slightly mixed reaction from me. To be fair, I'll start by saying I normally prefer Yamaha. Considering these keyboards, there were 3 aspects to consider. For the actual sound quality of the instruments used within the styles, Yamaha wins hands down. Casio sounds ranged from OK to terrible (here I refer to the very thin-sounding 'strings'). After hearing each of the Casio examples, in almost every case, the warmth and body of the Yamaha sounds which followed were obvious. In most cases, the Yamaha styles sounded more realistic and polished, but certainly not always. One big disappointment with the Yamaha in almost every case was when you switched from the opening style to the variation, the difference was almost negligible - a surprising let-down for Yamaha. Allowing for the price bracket, I wouldn't want either of these. The sounds of the Casio would irritate, and the insignificant change from opening style to variation in the Yamaha almost defeats the purpose of an arranger keyboard.

Valuable observations Bryan! Absolutely spot on. $199 keyboards have come a long way though...
@bryangl1
@bryangl1 3 года назад
@@JeremySee Oh yes, that is certain, but I wonder if there's a model for $50, even $25 more that overcame the deficiencies here, that it would be worthwhile for the customer to save and find just that little bit more to buy a keyboard that would give better satisfaction for a longer time.
