Bought myself an E463 about a year ago. I’m steadily improving, and I feel there’s still plenty of room for me to grow with it for a good while yet. It has great features for the price. I love it!

The YES ( Yamaha Education Suite ) is not just for absolute beginners but even amateurs and semi professionals alike can also benefit from the advanced lessons and the chord dictionary is also very useful. The PSR E4 series is still an entry level keyboard so therefore is should still have YES.
yamaha made the desision to remove it because the psr e463 is marketed at those who seriously want to get into music creation and actually have some knowledge, the psr e453 was the last to have YES, but because you only have 30 on board songs, only some of which are capable of being played with that function. I like where they went with that, groove creator and sampling, a total beginner does not need that feature, where as the education feature, an intermediate is not gonna be needing that, in fact. the psr 8000, released in 1997, is now part of the same catigory because its been replaced with high end models from the psr s series and the jenos. but for someone getting started on a keyboard, I recommend the psr e273, especially if your piano teacher feels you are not ready for a touch sensitive keyboard, the only non touch sensitive keyboards I own are the psr 195, psr 78, rock jam rj761 chinese jenos clone and the yamaha psr 200

The psre463 is actually a decent keyboard for beginners because it's an affordable workstation that can be used as just a regular learning keyboard. The psre463 keyboard was the first keyboard I bought, and I honestly don't regret it one bit. My advice to a beginner is make sure you get a keyboard not only for your current needs but your future needs as well. If you need a keyboard to not only learn on but you can use at home on the go or even in the studio, the psre463 is a great option.
It is 2 years past this video and the E-473 came out. But I have to thank you Jeremy. I saw your other video demonstrating the 473, and while it seemed totally amazing and cheap for what it is, $400 including confiscatory sales tax, I was able to snag an E-373 for $220 out the door. Albeit without some of the bells and whistles of the 473, this keyboard is utterly amazing. The Grand Piano sound is so realistic. The keys, while soft-touch aren’t entirely without resistance. I don’t think the touch on my Yamaha DX7 is as nice as this keyboard. I added a 3rd party sustain pedal and have a nice compact keyboard that can sit out in my office studio. I can only imagine how wonderful the E-473 is, but that one was just overkill for my needs. Thanks for turning me onto this series.
Your videos are incomparable when it comes to detailing all the variables when choosing between keyboards that may seem more similar at first glance such as these two, being successive models in a series. Excellent comparison Jeremy! The exact video I wanted. The Yamaha PSR - E463 comes with better features and functions when compared to the PSR - E373. But I feel the PSR - E373 is also unbeatable for under $200 as it comes with features such as Super articulation button, live grand piano voice, etc., that are only present in Yamaha's higher end models such as the Genos.

For an extra $70 USD, you can get the 76 key PSR EW310. It is a steal at $270 USD. I just bought one to use for teaching purposes and I am very pleased with it.
To be honest as a keyboard player for the past 7 years I must tell you that Grand piano sound really makes a big difference.... I m an owner of Yamaha psr e453 and the GP sounds more muffled... Only if I could save more money I would buy the psr s670 which has a significantly better sound ... Anyway Good job Jeremy !👍
Joshua, if the main piano tone matters a lot to you, then the action should too. In fact the best piano sounds/patches are only controllable with a weighted key action. Why not keep your existing keyboard for the fun extras, and buy the best portable digital piano you can afford? You might be pleasantly surprised at the prices. Alternatively, you can build up your own modular system, starting with a weighted controller keyboard such as the Studiologic SL88 or SL73. This can connect to a computer VST or a sound expander box.
I want to get that one too, I am getting to the point where I need super articulation, and the psr s670 never fails to show that off, with it being older its not that costly any more

Awesome comparison! At first I was thinking .."Wow, heck yeah, I'd spend an extra $100 for the PSR-E463 with al of those extras!".. Then, about 3/4 of the way through, as you were covering the attributes of the less expensive model, I was feeling really thankful for what I had in the PSR-EW310. (Actually, I already was thankful). Capabilities are great, but sound is everything for me and I LOVE the piano sound in the E373/EW310 models. Money can be a big deal on a small income, so $100 extra may be cost-prohibitive for many. But this is a great comparison! However, I've always wondered if sampling one's own voice can make decent background vocals.. (...if recorded in a softer vocal tone for better blending). Just curious, Jeremy, have you ever done that with any of your keyboards?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Shelly. The Quick Sampling in E-series lacks many features to make a good playable sound across the keys. It is better suited for one-shot sample triggers.
Hello! I was going to buy a Yamaha PSR-E463 next year. However, I wondered if I need it. Many people advise buying a tool for growth, i.e. PSR-E463. But, it is about $180 more expensive (in Ukraine) than the Yamaha PSR-E373. In addition, the PSR-E373 has a learning function. The most important thing for me right now is to learn to play. good choice, when I was a beginner I got the psr 220 back in 2005, still have that keyboard, well, not the exact physical model but it means a lot, that was a lot lighter than my current psr e463, I always recommend buying an e4x series keyboard for beginners until they are ready to get serious with music

While 100 dollars sounds little to some of us, these are both budget keyboards and 100 dollars is a huge difference - one that would have to be justified. In my eyes, the main advantages of the E463 are the USB flashdrive and the better speakers. Unless you use headphones most of the time, this speaker sound difference will be very apparent. And as for USB flashdrives in keyboards/pianos: I can tell you that mine has revolutionised my piano practice, my teaching, and even my gigs. But we all work/practise differently and if, for example, you hook up to the computer most of the time, a USB flash drive might be quite unnecessary. Speaking of computers, I see that the E373 has audio and MIDI over USB, but the E463 spec I read doesn't mention audio. So, there's certainly no need for an audio interface with the E373, and this also means you can use the computer's speakers if you want to. If you connect to the computer most of the time, get the E373 and put the money saved towards buying some nice computer/studio monitor speakers, if you haven't done that already. It's obvious that at these prices, you can't have eveything, but first time buyers often think too little about the action. PSRs are greater than ever, but don't buy a PSR keyboard if what you really want is a beginner's piano. There are several basic digital pianos available for around 300 dollars. They have 88 keys which are weighted. And there is the Alesis Recital 61 which has 61 semi-weighted keys and strong speakers, but just a few tones.
I just want to thank you for making these videos, big help on deciding but i'm still kinda torn. I guess we can't really have it all in one single keyboard.
I realized that if connect E373 with computer, and we can use audacity (free audio recording software) to record. Then we can record many tracks, and merge those tracks as the way we want. Of course, recording more than 3 tracks in E463, gives people convenience. I just wish Yamaha can be a bit more generous to give us 3 tracks recording, haha.

I'm a drummer and guitarist but I would really like to record my own piano too. With that said, which one of these is better at recording music(pop, indie, rock)? I'm intrested in the classic piano sound too. Does the e463 deserve the extra money or am I better off buying the e373?

the psr e463 is well worth the price simpally because of its sound quality. being able to sample different sounds. it just works with nearly every computer. my windows laptop had no trouble looking for the right drivers. its durable thanks to that metallic speaker grill. it doesn't need any drivers because of its plug and play abilities. talked a littel about this on my own channel . which is why I made the right desission and decided that my psr e463 is a lot better than the e373. both keyboards still have the same sounds especially the drum voices and the same styles whith the e463 having better stiles. if anything if I were to choose a keyboard to recommend to my friends, it would be the psr e463 especially because its more geared to people that actually want to enjoy music. works really well in logic pro 10 on my mac and the pitch bend is assignable meaning you can turn it into a mod wheel for that particular daw. not to forget the songs too. clearly no nursery rhymes found in keyboards like the e303 up to the e373 the 463 really wants to keep up with the higher end keyboards which it does pretty well. the control knobs are not poorly built like they were on the e463 and the amount of things you can do with them is endless
@@aure3614 you can't create voices, but you can modify the existing ones with the control gnobs, if you want a keyboard at the same price point now these days with voice creation, go for the psr 8000
Hi Jeremy, LOVE what you are doing and finding it invaluable in making a buying decision for my first keyboard. I feel I want to go for the PSR-E463 but I am told by a UK retailer that the PSR-E473 is due to ship to the UK late January 2021 and I can place an order now. Have you had sight of any specs for the new model or seen it in the flesh yet? Seems inappropriate to buy the old model when the new one will ship so soon. Regards Ken
man I want one of those, but I can not part x my psr e463 in its current condition, its missing the pitch bend and one of the control knobs, it can still be played, I just have to hold down the function key to go to file control then let it go again to return the keyboard to normal
Hey, I really want to get the PSR-E373 because of the rich sound you point out. But, I noticed the speakers on the e463 have a metal grill while the one e373 have is fabric. That's concerning to me since they collect dust easily. What would you suggest?
Jeremy, give me your thoughts about the Yamaha MM6, if you had owned one. I was watching a video of this keyboard and I was blown away when I heard the latin percussion instruments. I said to myself that this has to be a predicessor of the Yamaha PSR-E463. Some of the other sounds of the Yamaha MM6 are taken from the PSR-S series. Do you think the Yamaha MM6, despite being launched 13 years ago, is good enough for anyone to buy?
Yamaha MM6 is a keyboard synthetizer, not an arranger. IMHO, MM6 is not a good synthetizer either, the sounds are not good to my ears. I bought a Yamaha MO6 years ago, and it sounds way better when comparing them side by side in local Guitar Center. Nowadays, keyboards such as SX-700 and SX-900 certainly have much better voices, and they can be played as one man band. Difficult to do with synthetizers.
Hi Jeremy, I've been enjoying your reviews of the keyboards. Subscribed. I have been going back and forth over which of these two to buy. I finally landed on the PSR-E373, and now that it's been shipped I've been second guessing myself over the choice. Nice to know the choice won't be a total disaster. My primary instrument is bass guitar, but my church needs for me to step up and do some very basic keyboard things. Mainly all I need to do is add a pad voice and very limited fills. Do you have any videos on the use of pads? Thanks for all the information you make available.
I think I understand now about the DSP Effects between e373 and e463. The DSP EFFECTS is in the software or hardware to make sound better, not a function that can be controlled by players. Am I right?

@@JeremySee older high end keyboards are getting cheaper, as far as I know you can now get a psr s670 very easily now and that at least has super articulation propper. it released back in 2015 and is my dream keyboard. I love my already existing psr 8000 but a psr s model beets the 8000 hands down because it has a USB port and you don't need to replace floppy disk drives
Can either of these keyboards be used for making whole tracks with intros and multiple parts, without any external hard/software? If so, would you recommend the E463 if this is my priority use case, due the the extra tracks please?

On the 463, you can virtually create new voices just by using control knobs and adding dsp effects then store it to any of the 32 banks (4 buttons with 8 banks). Super Articulation is a gimmick on the 373.
Argh, is there an E373 with a pitch Bend Wheel? Because thats more or less the only thing what i miss on the E373... Its not possible to plug an external pitch bend wheel on the pedal input, right?^^
Jeremy, can you clarify for me? You say the E373 grand piano voice is better than the E463, but in your Sept 2 Video (Yamaha Destroys Competition) you say they used the same voice as the Yamaha EW410 for the E373. Wouldn't the EW410 and the E463 have the same default piano voice, since they share all the same characteristics or do the differnt size of the amps/speakers (6watt in the E463 vs. 12watt in the EW410) contribute to the better quality, or is the sound chip for them different....and they merely put that into the E373?
I just bought a psre 463 and in the box it came with a pa130 power adapter but on the box it says use pa150. Is it ok if i use the pa130 or should i get the pa150?

depends on your level of keyboard knowledge, if you are new, I recommend the psr e373, if you have not touched a keyboard before then go for the much cheaper psr e273, that way you can move to a touch sensitive keyboard once you learn how it works, the psr e273 does not have touch sensitive keys for a reason, its to get you acquainted with the notes and where things on, as you grow confident you will learn dynamic playing and will then want to upgrade to a keyboard with touch sensitive keys
