Stephen, just a tip for you: I'd suggest you place the white scanner in other place that's not over the Receiver, Class A/B amplifiers (which is the case of the R-N602) get hot after a couple minutes of use, and they need some ventilation from the upper side.
Use this receiver to power up my polk tower speakers from my demon receiver . it works great for home theater 2 channel amplify but never tried to use net radio. great video. thank you .
Hi, I know this is an old review but, I’m looking to buy this type of receiver and I wanted to know , can play RU-vid from my Iphone through this device?
Too many bells & whistles on this model, which is why I went for the more basic R-S300 model. It is built like a tank. Sound is terrific. No regrets there.
@@uiqjirka The R-S300 is a sleeper (underdog winner) for me. It sounds terrific to my ears. It has great stereo separation. It also has the ToP Art Chassis construction & similar circuitry as the upper end models are like the R-S500, R-S700, the R-N602 & the R-N803. If you don't really care for bluetooth & internet radio, the R-S300 is perfect for your listening needs. The 300 also drives my JBL L-100 floor towers & my 12" Polk subwoofer just beautifully.
@@dm95422 In terms of sound, it is not even close to R-N602, R-N803. Obviously you've never heard of these models. Compared to them, the R-S300 sounds tragic.
@@SteveRivett Actually, i googled the manual and found it, just have to hold down the memory key for 3 secs and it will open up the next avail spot to save as preset. thank you for responding!
I have a couple of questions. Hope you can help. 1. What is the point of Pure Direct. 2. When you switch it on Do you still get the display on the LCD? 3. When I turn the pure direct on there is a difference in audio from the left channel to the right channel. Do you find the same? Thank you
Pure Direct turns off the audio effects like the equalizer, tone adjustment, etc. The display does turn off when you use it. The left/right should not change unless you have the left/right knob turned on the front of the receiver.
@@SteveRivett Thanks for the reply. So I set the tuner on (FM) While listening both left and right channels are normal. The moment I turn ON Pure direct there is a substantial amount of volume difference between left and right speakers. ( Right is about 70% higher volume). Just trying to figure out how to solve this issue.
Hi Stephen, I own this model around 4 years paired with Monitor audio bronze post speakers and its fine. I decided make little progress and add another two surrounded speakers (trying get quadrophonic sound) just wireless only. But I see some issue. If I will use music cast app, everything will ok, because I can join those speakers (any yamaha music cast speakers orr soundbars ) with another room mode. But I don't know how it wil work without music cast app, for example streaming RU-vid or another music platform which don't support music cast. Do you have some opinion or experience with the matter?
I am happy with the sound because it's always good unlike a surround sound receiver which is always switching to different signal types and messing thigs up when connected to a computer. I have a pair of Bose 201s from the 1990s and a Yamaha YST-FWS100 subwoofer. The little subwoofer really makes up for the little speakers.
You need to update your firmware and use MusicCast from what I can tell. I'll try to do a video on it. ca.yamaha.com/en/news_events/2019/0305_av_update_on_internet_radio_station_access.html
Use the Music Cast app to search for radio stations. I made a new video on this but note that they also changed the way they access these stations so you may need a firmware update.
I own this amp and am less than satisfied with the sound through my Kef Q1 bookshelve speakers. I use it only for playing vinyl and for Internet radio. Will upgrade to floorstanders sometime this year. Do you think bi wiring will help the sound? I'm not sure bi amping is possible. Thanks for the vid!
I do not know, I just have an old pair of Bose 201's and a Yamaha YST-FSW100 hooked up to it. The subwoofer makes up for the lack of base from the Bose bookshelf speakers but their tweeters aren't very good in them either. I have a pair of Paradigm Reference Studio 40 V.4 speakers in storage that can be bi-wired but I haven't had a chance to hook up to this unit yet. I probably won't see them again for 6 months.
