Just took apart my 2005 r6 and got her running. Did valves, new timing chain, guards and tensioner as well w some other goodies but This video helped me so much man thank you for making this. The only thing I did differently was got me some block off plates and it saved up a ton of space & time when putting stuff back together 🤙🏼
Great video...thanks for taking the time to make it. I'm going to watch it again and again...i have an 07, and I think its having a similar issue...it has 37k kms...
correct, they updated the part number a while ago it's the same cct with same part number for 06/07 and for 08/16. It's a newer upgraded version than the standard version of 08/16 or 06/07.
Thanks for the video man,, really helpful, just I'm really confused how to calculate the new shim if the original ones are out of specs, would you give a small example with numbers?, thanks man!
Hi there, i’m a car mechanic so usually work on a bit bigger engines but hope this helps. You need to understand that when the clearance is tight (the valves get more seated overtime) you need a thinner shim and then come in the range of “loose” so you do not have to do it every year. You want to be slightly on the greater clearance when you’re done. “Measure twice cut once” good luck 🛠😎
Are u using mm on ur gauge or inches? I can only find inches the mm on my gauges measurements are very different between the next size like big jumps in size were inches is .006-.007-.008 etc
Every 5000-6000 miles!!?? Sounds like a lemon. Had mine checked at 42,000km/26600mi (as recommended in the manual) and they didn't need any adjusting. Currently sitting at 75,000km, so next check's coming up, which I'll probably use your videos to do the check myself, this time. Noticed in your previous video you said not to bother with adjusting the throttle bodies if one is having idle issues. I definitely disagree. Mine was idling just like yours in this video, but then I did the throttle bodies and it's been perfect ever since. (If you're gonna do the them, though, get a good measuring instrument. I borrowed my friend's Amazon Special, which was one of those 4-gauge clock style set ups. It ended being a very, very finnicky tool to work with. Was a shining example of one time use product dumping.)
@@thegoldbarron9504 The first time i did the adjustment it was successful and i got the timing right, but i went back to do it again to change some shims around and put everything back together now i hear a rattling noise and i can’t tell if it’s from the CCT or the cam chain itself, i took the cover off and ran it to see if it’s bouncing off the guide and it’s not but it is has a little play on the exhaust guide where i can lift the chain up, would you know anything on this?
@@thegoldbarron9504 07 r6 32k miles, I went back and re did everything made sure chain tight, i checked it on the exhaust guide was good no slack, but once i ran it started to rattle again and the chain became loose, so i took out the tensioner put it back checked the chain on the guide again and it was tight, but once i ran it it became loose and started to rattle again, and yes it’s the same cct that i bought the bike with, should i just replace the CCT? or both cct and cam chain
@@thegoldbarron9504 yea it’s coming from the CCT side, wow the 07s valves are that bad? only reason i knew is cuz the bike ran like shit couldn’t hold idle until 160 in temp and when i first did it i couldn’t even fit a .04mm gauge in the exhaust clearance
@@thegoldbarron9504 Yea this bike is a pain in the ass, all my valves are in spec but it’s bogging when i try to take off out of first basically just turning the bike of on its own, and once i hit 6k rpm’s the bike cuts power and lurches forward no clue i just remeasured all the shims and they’re all in spec
Ended up kinking my fuel line and when i replaced it i guess the fuel pump was already weak from overworking is my guess. Fuel pump was the last thing i checked since it worked fine before, but i replaced it and shes back
06 R6 here. Bike idle seems rough and sometimes takes a while to start, will die on cold start if I try to rev it. Valve adjustment needed? Also I have power commander 3 will fixing valves cause any problems regarding how the bike runs w/ a tune.
