Interesting video! Nice that you managed to save the thread in the casing. I have a set of cases with the same issue. This video will help me out. Thanks for sharing.
Just found your channel,as a previous owner of,no less than 6 RD 350,s in different guises in the 80,s and 90,s im locked in and binge watching the lot now! Really interesting, and your attention to detail is very impressive, really makes me want to go on the hunt for another, but i dont like the price tags of these beauties nowadays. Cannot wait to see the finished bike 👍
I don't think they will go down all 2nd hand bike prices just seem to be higher nowadays. They might level out a bit. Just keep an eye out there are some bargains around still.
Good result with the broken stud Pete! 👍 We've all been there! 😂 I do love your calm & methodical approach, it makes for very watchable videos. Not like those with lots of music & fast cuts that miss bits out. Congrats. 👍👍
Very nice and congrats on getting the stud out. I have the exact same situation on my RZ case, the same hole as well. In my case the HSS extractor broke off in the hole despite careful preparation. I've been putting it off for a few months, but due to this video I'm going to tackle it this weekend, drilling out the hole with a carbide drill bit,. I doubt I'll have the same fortune of getting the remaining bits of thread out due to the galvanic corrosion, but hopefully I can clean it up with a tap rather than putting in a thread insert. I'm going to use titanium studs with anti-seize when I put it all back together. Cheers.
That's what I was worried about. Maybe get a thick block of wood and drill through that, then line it up over the hole and clamp it. That will help keep the drill from wandering and keep it square.
