Oh really? So if it’s not Atmos it’ll just use the surround back. Interesting...I put a correction in the description and pinned your comment. Thanks for the info, Sami!
This is what the RX-A2A manual says: The surround back and front presence speakers do not produce sounds simultaneously. The unit automatically changes the speakers to be used, depending on the input signal and CINEMA DSP 3D.
@@TechnoDad I had the denon s750. Did some random technical difficulties so I returned it in exchange for this Yamaha. I have the klipsch 26rfa. The tower speakers with Dolby speakers installed facing up on the towers. Now I’m at a loss with the setup. The denon would have a static click only when it wanted to when turning up the volume. Zone 2 would turn on when it’s supposed to turn off with everything else then wouldn’t power off after multiple attempts. The screen would just randomly switch off whatever I’m viewing and show white noise for a few seconds. HDMI cable is a black pearl, 4K with gold plate on the ends. Damn it all
Just a side note on the switching between 5.1.2 and 7.1. Make sure you have the receiver set to STRAIGHT. I had mine on AUTO and for some reason it wouldn't switch. I played a movie with a 7.1 sound track and it would only output 5.1.2. I called customer support and was told to keep it in in STRAIGHT. Works great. Love this receiver!
I love my Yamaha V6. Upgraded from an Onkyo. Also upgraded speakers(Klipsch), speaker wire(14), and added acoustic treatment to wall reflection points. Would recommend to anyone with a small to medium sized room.
I’d like to see the eArc setup Your very knowledgeable on these things so your input/teaching would help a lot of us greatly. Thank you for the content, it’s always on point. Be blessed brother
I've just had my v6a hdmi board changed getting it back today. Then upgraded my front left n right to some dali spektor 6 floor standers can't wait this vid helped me a couple months back
Just got the Costco version (TSR-700) of this AVR and hooked it up to the Klipsch 5.1 Theater pack. Replaced the L/R fronts with Klipsch R-41Ms and used the speakers from the set as the front height channels. This is in a medium-sized "den" and it sounds really good. I am really impressed with an AVR at this price point. Thanks for the review.
Happy RX-V6A user here, for the PC, old 4x BOSE 501, rest are new satellites and center by JAMO, dedicated room, Pure digital Hi Fi to my ears, Vinyl fanboy. When i select a good Atmos source, i thought all speakers are working, on a Dolby Digital source, only 5.1 max. I have to retest it, are my sources good enough, it just says ATMOS, not how many channels the source is.
For those late to the watching this, the V6A has a free update to make it work with the Xbox. You do have to send the unit in and they replace the HDMI board if you have a unit that needs it (later models are supposed to handle the xbox fine). I'm about to send mine in for the fix since it was an early model.
I have the Costco equivalent (TSR-700) and so far very little regret beyond wishing the firmware updates would get here. One possible correction, I'm under the impression that all 7 HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1 inputs. The first three are separated because not because they're better HDMI inputs but because they're presets (Movie, STB, Game). Both specs and the manual don't seem to differentiate that some of the of the HDMI inputs is 2.1 and others is 2.0 but that all 7 HDMI inputs is 2.1. I could be wrong, but Phil Jones of all people seems to confirm this because he wanted to point out that it comes with a cost of reduced bandwidth/compression unlike Denon/Marantz's choice of components/approach of fewer HDMI 2.1 inputs on their AVRs. Of course if there is an actual statement from Yamaha on this, I'd love to know one way or the other. Interesting discussion at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1ZbOufC-qSc.html
Yes all the 7 HDMI are 2.1 - I also picked up @ Costco 329.00 / The last firmware update has been great . Ni issue here . I'm enjoying this (TSR-700) It's future ready for 4K @ 120hz & down the road then 8K @ 60hz ! I should have got 2 :) !
@Techno Dad I have had this unit for about 6 months just got it hooked up to my 85" QN90A and 5.1.2 atmos media room. Audio dropouts every 10-20 seconds. I thought maybe the cable in my new construction home were bad so I got a new Ruipro fiber and Amazon fiber cable (not cheap) to try. Audio drops even worse now. Happens when watching any source from the TV via the ARC/eARC port to the Yamaha ARC/eARC port. I totally lost. Help please.
Yeah, they replace the I/O board, it needs service. no harm done, they pay for it all! reliable Yamaha is, what you bought you get, and you get many years of service updates! this I/O board, they bought chips, not a Yamaha design inhouse, they just replace it.
If I'm only running a 5.1 setup (1 sub, 1 large center, and 4 satellites), will I not be allowed to select Dolby Atmos? That seems to make sense, because I don't have height speakers but I wanted to double check.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, I have the TSR 700, when going through ypao, it will error out if you dont have speakers plugged into the "surround ports" I had my back surround speakers plugged into the "back surround" and atmos speakers plugged into the "presence plugs". Switched back speakers to the regular surround plugs and it worked.
Thanks so much for this. I do have a couple of questions however. For the TSR-700 model (running a 5.1.2 layout with two subwoofers) Why does YPAO insist on setting the front left, right, and center channels to “Large”? If I subsequently change the setting to “Small” will this screw-up the calibration? Moreover, YPAO insists on setting certain crossover thresholds to 40Hz or 60Hz (depending on the speaker in question). Similarly, If I change the crossover settings to 80Hz will this adversely affect the calibration? In other words, YPAO is running a rather sophisticated algorithm and my concern is that by changing any of the settings YPAO ‘prefers’ I am creating a cascade/ripple effect that will throw-off the calibration of the WHOLE system.
The cheap Avantage model is good too, you get the A6A 120 FPS I/O too! can you still buy that V6A, or did they stopped producing it, to the faulty I/O board?
I've just downloaded the latest Yamaha firmware version 1.34. I would like to have your advice regarding HOW to USE the Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization that was installed with Version 1.34..I've no idea HOW to use it..(wife will not allow speakers in the ceiling or walls) so, sure; instructions would be greatly appreciated. One thing I DID notice was that, since version 1.34 firmware was installed, there is now an obvious ECHO when listening to either 2 channel stereo PCM on RU-vid or Spotify.. or 5.1 channel movies on the Netflix, or HBOMax or even on Plex. I think I've discovered a way to turn off the echo, by going to the Equalization setting then, turning OFF the YPAO setting, or going to the natural Ypao setting. but NO YPAO FLAT.. because that's where the echo seems to live. Again, merely an observation ..but boy howdy ..I do not enjoy that echo at all. Thanks for your patience and time!
Does the osd work with earc enabled? Say I have my shield plugged into the avr and earc on will I still get the volume osd? Also, I've got the denon avr-x2700h and I'm thinking of returning it due to me misunderstanding thinking all ports were hdmi 2.1 but only 1 is. Feel mislead by denon, but the sound is good. Does the yamaha sound better do you think? Have you compared them? I only have a couple of days to make up my mind before my return window shuts.
@@TechnoDad I turn off the eq after ypao run. I only need ypao for setting up distances and levels. Sounds better this way I say Yamaha seems to send low signal to subs because subs wont auto-on at low volume setting. I need to raise volume to turn on subs. I suppose you could test this by setting up sub level at 0db on both receivers you are comparing and hear if sub is louder on one of them
You can change fron 6 ohms to 8. Make sure you're on 8 ohms that is if you have 8 ohm speakers. If you have 8 ohms and it's on 6 , the speakers won't sound very good
So I have the TSR 700 paired with the 5.1 klipsch reference pack and the R-51. Today I bought Sony SS CSE for 170. From what I’m hearing in this video there’s no way I can play them all at once. Can I bridge the the Sonys with the R51 or can I bridge the satellite speakers together. Or do u recommend I take the Sonys back. I would greatly appreciate ur advice thanks!
I'm planning to buy it.. need it for Dolby atmos movies streaming from Netflix and Amazon prime movies, will it pass through the signal from my Sony TV x900h to the V6a avr? (Using eARC on both sides)
I picked this up at Costco under the model "Yamaha TSR-700" for $399 which is the same exact one as this RX-V6A, idk why Costco changed the model # of it though.
Presumably it's so you can't just go into a retailer like Best Buy and ask them to price match and then that retailer would be mad at Yamaha for underselling.
How was your receiver showing Atmos on the receiver display? I have not seen mine display that. I have all speakers wired to their appropriate places, I have the power amp configuration showing 5.1.2. I know I'm also watching a program that has Dolby Atmos sound, yet I have not been able to confirm that the system is playing different sounds to the overhead speakers and the surround speakers. And when I saw Dolby Atmos displaying on your Yamaha receiver, that was new to me, as I have never seen it display on my receiver. Any idea on a setting that I am missing? I have run movies directly from my Samsung, and also through the PS5 on blu-ray.
I figured it out, for me. I have a Samsung Q70 that i was getting my input from, but it doesn't have an eArc hdmi output, only an Arc hdmi (not enough bandwidth). I installed a Google Chromecast with Google TV directly into the receiver and that resolved the issue. I now have Atmos, and it displays on the front panel.
Heads up for owners of an LG C9 OLED TV (like myself)...I had this AVR and it had issues with turning audio on. I would use the CEC function so that when I turned on my TV, it would also power on the AVR, which worked fine. However, the sound would only turn on MAYBE 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time, I would have to go into my TV settings and turn the eARC off and then back on for it to get the sound to work. Very annoying. Yamaha did release a firmware update that I thought would correct this issue, but it didn’t. I do not have this receiver anymore...
I’m late to the party but for using ARC/eARC, the LG likes to turn on first, at least a two to three seconds, followed by the receiver. It took me forever to figure this out. This assumes you already have CEC settings turned on both the receiver and TV. I have a Harmony remote and had to add a delay in between actions.
Thank you for the review. I have question regarding to connecting 9 speakers to the terminal. I have 7.1 in the living room and extra 2 for stereo in the balcony. You mentioned the receiver will automatically switch between the between the speakers. How is it done ? Meaning, when will the reciever output 7.1 and when it will output 5.1+ 2. Assuming of course that all 9 speakers will be connected permanently.
Hello TD, I have this receiver and I want to use a TV and a videoprojectors as my displays. There is only one HDMI output on this AV receiver and I cannot find the right splitter. I am looking for something that can handle 4k 60ghz, active HDMi cable (50ft for the videoprojector) and dolby Atmos. I tried a Xantech 1/4 outputs and it couldn't pass Dolby Atmos. Would you recommend a good splitter? Thx!
From the receiver menu what did you leave the speakers on?Pure direct or straight ? did you use any of the programs installed in the receiver like sci-fi, drama, etc?
Please, more information about Atmos setup. More importantly how well are audio formats through the eARC detected. I have my PS4 connected to my TCL 635 and eARC to the A6V. While the PS4 says it is outputting format "a" it is difficult to know if that is what is being delivered by the A6V. Great Channel. It informed both my decisions, along with Stop the FOMO. More details on the set up options will be appreciated. 🙏
I see Dann. I have the TCL so I'll make an ARC/eARC setup video and see if the Yamaha app will tell us what format Atmos will be sent, DD+ or DTHD. I can probably make that and have it up next week.
@@TechnoDad, thanks for the response. In the end it will probably determine whether I use the TV or the receiver as the source switcher. I like the convenience of using the TV but I want the best performance of out of the system.
I mean, it’s more about speaker sensitivity and those Klipsch are pretty sensitive. Would they like more power, yes, they would, but you’ll be okay with the Yamaha until you get something bigger.
I have everything wired properly, but I can't control my zone2 as separate audio volume control. It only plays with zone 1 and same volume levels control both Zone 1 (living room) and Zone 2 (back patio). Can you make a video to demonstrate this?
Question can I use Zone 2 for another room and use Atoms as long as I don't use them at the same time? I'm in need of a receiver that has a zone 2 for my outside speakers and I do have hight speakers that I would like to use for Atoms. Thanks for your time and help
Hi Frank! Yes, you can! As long as they are not used at the same time, they you’re good to go. You can also watch TV in 5.1 in your main room and have music outside at the same time.
@techno dad Have the tsr-700, have the klipsch 5.1 hooked up, I bought a pair of svs prime elevations (for atmos) to run 5.1.2. Svs can't go on ceiling, but can go on the sides closest to the ceiling. Do I plug them as surrounds? If I plug them as front presence, won't that give me front sounds as left/right atmos /heights?? Really trying to figure this out lol
Hay Cinna,D, UK Steve. ... Worth keeping hold of my Sony 1080 compared to the Yamaha? Is it the update. As the sony sounds good. Also how many Atmos speakers can I use. 2 or 4 Atmos speakers thanks. And a review will be good..
Hi! Not too sure. I mean, it has some cool features but I don't think you should get another 7 channel AVR if you want to run four height channels. You'll need a 9 channel AVR to go four height channels.
Thanks for the review Channa! I picked up the Costco equivalent (TSR-700) and have my Klipsch Ref (Atmos enabled) speakers & subs setup wired to it... but for the life of me I cannot get Dolby Atmos to work on Disney +, Vudu (UHX movies) and Prime (Jack Ryan, lol!). The only app it pulls Atmos on is Netflix. Also, when I play Atmos enabled tracks from Tidal, no audio comes out. This happens no matter if I plug in my Nvidia Shield Pro or a TiVo Stream 4k...same...no Atmos option within any of the apps I listed, just shows up in Netflix. Anybody else have this issue or better still a resolution?! (Yes, I have it set to "Straight"/DD) Yahama support guy basically said...not us, must be something missing from the metadata!!! However, when I hook up my Shield or Stream 4k to my Nakamichi Shockwaffe system, I get Atmos on that system with all the apps I listed. Very frustrating
Anyone get this receiver to play lossless audio through eARC yet? The receiver should show atmos/dthd instead of the atmos/dd+ i get for disney plus, amazon prime and netflix. I made sure my tv had earc enabled and set to pass through.
To confirm- you can't run any extra atmos speakers if you have 2 front/center/and 2rear surround speakers/2 subs already connected? Do I need another amp then for my 2 front and 2 rear atmos speakers?
So this receiver is only capable of processing 7 channels at a time?? For some reason I thought it was capable of processing 9 but only powering 7. Which would mean you could use those pre-amp outs with another amp to get a full 7.1.2. But I guess I was wrong on this?
Yeah, that’s not how it works, unfortunately. You would need a 9 channel AVR for what you want to do. So the Denon X3700H would be a better bet. It’s also more expensive!
Are the 2 sub outputs in stereo on the RX-V6A? I'm looking at the Yamaha TSR-700 that Costco sells for $399 and it has all the same features but it's advertised as 7.1 (with 2 mono sub outputs). Other than that It looks to be the exact same unit just a Costco variant for a lot cheaper.
Hi Steve! I haven't seen anything about this on their site, but at this price point, my guess would be not stereo. They are parallel as opposed to independent. Most of the AVRs in the $2K+ price range start to have independent sub outs.
If you use the preamp outs and an external amp for the front channels can you run this in 7.1.2 and use the atmos and rear channels at the same time with that setup?
Hi! This will only process 7 channels. If you want to run 9 channels, you will need a 9 channel AVR like the Denon X3700H. If you want to buy one, email me - technodad55 at gmail dot com.
@@TechnoDad i'm still not sure you are right here, i do hear sound coming from both extra speaker sets on a Dolby Atmos source only. I would say, it does only 8.2 on ATMOS, not sure if one of these channels is just a copy of one of the other channels...? I have too many Pro level Satellite speakers, i do love this cheap Pro receiver on my PC!
Nice review, thank you. I just placed an order for the RX-V6A but I'm looking to drive my front speakers with a spare power amp that I have. Is there anything special I need to do to ? Thanks again
Thanks for the run thru. I can’t figure out how to drive 3 pairs of speakers in one room (no sub) and zone a pair outside, that I can run in combination or separately. Do you have any ideas? Cheers
The question that I can’t seem to find an answer to: can Zone 2 play a stereo mixdown of a surround sound HDMI source playing in the main zone? If not, then can it at least play the left and right channels from the source?
How does audio quality on this receiver in 2ch mode compare to something like the Marantz - PM7000N. Will a noobie audiophile like myself hear a big difference paired up with SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers using the Marantz vs this?
Purchased the Costco Klipsxh theater pack with the front rowers with built in refrence speakers. Cannot get the refrence speakers to work. I have the Yamaha TSR 700 which I belive is the same as the Receiver you talk about.
Looking for replacement for a onkyo 646, runs background fine but center channel goes out every few hours then shut receiver down and then starts back up. Any suggestions for replacement?
Hello, i have a Rxv6a , front center speaker , two bookshelf kef , woofer Yamaha and back speaker also from Yamaha , I am planning to buy the Atmos speaker from kef to put on the two bookshelf speakers ,what settings do I have to use and the terminals I should use ? Greetings Jan
This or the denon x2700? I wanted the 2700 but it's almost impossible to find in italy... Is this Yamaha on par or would this be a downgrade? Not interested in 120/4k btw...
Thank you for the video. I have an issue, I bought it just 2 days ago... the issue I have is that I can here the PS4 but I cannot see anything. I have a shield connected in the HDIM1 input, and it works perfectly well, and I have the PS4 attached at another HDMI, I try several... It is detected, the RX-V6 says in the display Playstation 4, and the sound is perfect, but no image in the TV screen. If I choose HDMI 1 the shield works perfect, I can hear and I can see, atmos is detected, everything perfect, but again if I moove (with the dial in the Recever, or the remote control) to the HDMI where the PS4 is connected, I just hear the audio, no image at all. If I press setup (receiver Remote control) it is not displayed in the TV Screen, when I choose PlayStation 4... again I hear the sound but no image, not even if I press option or setup of the Rx-v6. If I choose HDMI1/Shield, I can see and hear everything perfect. Do you have any idea of what could I test to find-out what is wrong, what I did wrong? thank you.
i was wondering about that too, now they are just above, in the middle. the ATMOS YRAO mic synchronized it, they sound calibrated correct in ATMOS sources.
Hello techno dad! I hope your doing great. I would like to ask because im using an optical cable connected to the tv going to the rxv6a. Is there a set up i am missing so that the yamaha can detect if your watching a 5.1 or 2.0 movie. Because when i watch netflix or amazon prime i still need to adjust the speakers setting to 5.1 and when i listen to music i switch ot to 2.0. thanks in advance
Nice video. Seriously considering getting this AVR as it seems to be good value. Does it have enough 7 channel power for watching movies in a medium room? Is Yamaha going to seriously update the firmware anytime soon for the 4K and 8K stuff to work at the higher Hz like they said they would or is that just a gimmick! How future proof is this AVR? Cheers. By the way, I would back off the camera .. I think you are far too close! :-)
As far as power is concerned, it's okay if you have speakers that have high sensitivity like Klipsch. How far do you sit away from your front stage? That should tell you what you need to look for. Room volume would have more to do with how large a subwoofer you need. Yamaha stated April - June 2021, so approximately 6 - 9 months after release of the AVR. Future proof? I don't think much at all. You're maxed out at 7 channels. I would get something like the Denon X3700H as it processes 11 channels and powers 9, and has 11 channels of pre-outs for external amplification, so you can grow into it. As far as the camera, yeah, I'm probably not going to change that unless I move to another spot.
@@TechnoDad Too many cables, u use it as a PC setup too, where is the Family couch? my room is this setup too only way bigger, i can remove the office chair and put the cinema seats there too. this close, i only hear 7.2 max, the height speaker you do here, were you need more than 8.2?
I just calibrated mine last week, and cranked it up today... It was uncomfortably loud (but awesome!), my yamaha sub and entry level sony towers shook the 17x18' room, yet there was still a feeling of clarity and precision, and no distortion. I usually listen at -30 to -25, and today I was at 0...and I didn't even want to go into + numbers! Good luck to you!
Hey Channa D! Thank You for another great overview. I am in need of a new AVR, just waiting for retailers to have them in stock. I can buy speakers at places around me, but AVRs are nowhere to be found.
Yeah, I would recommend the Denon X3700H as you can grow into it. I should have one here next week. Email me, I didn’t know you were in the market - TechnoDad55 at gmail dot com.
@@TechnoDad Thank You for the suggestion. Of late I have had the same luck with AVRs as you had with your PS5. Kind of hesitant to put out 1300. But who knows, I checked it out on denon.com it has all of the bells and whistles!
Great info! Question, I got the TSR-700 with LG CX and Klipsch 5.1.2 setup. The AVR audio info says Atmos/PCM instead of Atmos/DTHD. Whatever I do, it ends up with Atmos/PCM. Sometimes it says Dobly TrueHD but then quickly switches to Atmos/PCM. What setting am I getting wrong? Thanks!
@@darkcrash21 how exactly did you reset? Just turn off and back on? I still haven’t had any luck getting atmos/dthd to show up with disney plus just atmos/dd+ which of course is compressed. Anyone know if you can only get lossless audio with Blu-ray?
Great video as always, I would like a video for arc and Dolby atmos and how to configure the receiver with the better options. I’ve managed to plug my Apple TV 4K on it and finally get Dolby vision, but not chroma 4:4:4 (but there is no content for the moment so I’m glad for Dolby vision and Dolby atmos with it). But on my lg c8 with HDMI arc, I only have Dolby digital+ but no Dolby atmos :( thank again!
@@TechnoDad exactly, I have dolby digital+ but never dolby Atmos. I tested Netflix, Disney+ and the Dolby app on my LG C8 and it only shows dd+ (and Dolby vision for the video)
You can purchase the TSR-700 at Costco exclusively for $399.00 / the exact same receiver for $200.00 less. Too many issues with this receiver - many features are not available out of the box - many require firmware updates. Not capable of 8K without firmware - EARC also requires firmware update. I'll pass on this one - Yamaha let me down this time.
Hey man, thanks for the review. My question, can I do 5.1.4 with this in which the extra pair of height speakers are pre-out from this avr to an amp like you did with the Denon X3700H. Or, I pre-out the front L+R and use the speaker terminal as Rear Height L+R)
could you please recommend which size wire can install with this reciver i have bought sterio wire which is thick while keeping high sound receiver gets heated
Morning techno dad so which 1 is better I'm going to get 1 but not sure which would be d better 1 sony or Yamaha to play even 4 ohms speakers has more power per output
i purchased the tsr700 due to all the good reviews and absolutley hate it. sub output is almost non existent. only way i found to get any bass what so ever was to turn sub setting on amp to max or turn on extra bass on the amp which makes the bass completely un natural and synthesized. anyone know a way to fix this?
