@@DirtObseXXion Yes it sure has! One of the few legitimate duties of government is protecting the people's rights, not stripping the people's rights in the name of protecting the people!
yeah. i can see why people think they are dangerous but once you have enough seat time they are safe and way more capable then 4 wheelers. all three wheeler wrecks are operator error. three wheelers dont decide to flip. but people will always think different
I drove many times on 3 wheelers back in the day, never had an accident or injury, I could ride on 2 wheels easily, and that was the most fun and only dangerous stunt that I would do on it. Now my boss was trying to show off, and attempted to ride up a hill of some kind, like sawdust or silage and flipped it over lol but he wasn't hurt that bad thank goodness.
Dude, I love this! So nostalgic! Everything you said is spot on. Now we have things with more horses than a Texan ranch, weighs more than a single-wide trailer, has more gadgets than a plutonium farm, and costs slightly south of an original Leonardo. Yet, smiles per gallon is unequal. There is something to be said about a ride that wants to kill you every time you put your leg over the seat. The old Honda 125 that didn't have shocks is a great example; it's only 3 mph off from probably being the worlds most notorious serial killer. Anyway, keep up the awesome vids. I often wait a few months just so I can binge your channel. Cheers from KY.
Everybody thinks they need a 1000cc, power steering, IRS, LED everything, painted plastic and then they can't figure out why they can't afford it. Basic machines like this leave you feeling so much more connected to the trail. They're more fun in their own way. Been waiting for this video for a while. Really enjoyed it!
Okay fair enough but IRS, electronic fuel injection, power steering, piggy back shocks, CVT’s, etc. are decades old Technology at this point. The ridiculous cost of ATV’s can’t be blamed on those.
My dad got one for cheap for a job to haul some stuff. I brought it home and ride it around the neighborhood with my kids. Really fun great lil wheeler
Awesome! Yeah it's perfect for small jobs around the house. That's why I kept this one.. I was originally going to film it and flip it, but it's just nice to have around.
Great review! I've been rebuilding a abandoned 1991 moto 4 250 the last few years, its so close now! Dual mechanical drum brakes up front, I think 60mm front travel, maybe 80 rear? 25's on the back, low range! Reeeverse and a speedo! I think the 250 was a sort of premium package more then, you know, 250cc (229cc up a screaming 4ccs from the baser 225 model, wow! and you thought Polaris 800's at 760 or a Thundercat 1000 at 951 were liars!) One thing I've found about the older, lighter quads, is since they are so low to the ground (no suspension travel allows this) they are so much safer on off-cambers, and steep ascent\descent, cushy long travel suspension and ground clearance is nice until the thing is threatening a roll over and crush you to little smushed bits! can't wait to get my on the trails and compare, like you said, it'll do 95% the same thing as big monster atv's (which are pretty nice though) 5 speed is fun compared to CVT, well, perhaps the low RPM torque rich Yamaha air cooled do sap a bit of the fun away, but still! fun! (this got long!)
@@DirtObseXXion 250 premium!!! I like your attitude, I have an old Warrior 350 as well, the seating position and pegs on the Moto feel more suitable for adult sizes then the sort of pre-teen micro position on the warrior! nice editing, fun script, great job!
My dad's side comes from a long line of riders and gearheads and even tho my first bike was a Suzuki rv90. My next bike after that was a yamaha yz80 lol soo yea I'm loyal to yamaha. Also had a Suzuki pe175 too that bike got down too. Only commenting because I have the exact same 4wheeler.. it's not a banshee or a raptor but it's still fun to ride and it's kid friendly
She may be an 86 but she rides like an 87!!!! We’ve went full circle…1000CC to 200 BMW 1250 to Honda 250L. It’s like we got older and realized slow is fun and hurts a lot less.
I've owned 2018+ non power steering and PS models. I'd totally take a modern "base" model with little bells and whistles to fail. And really, a big single is way more than enough. My advice to newbies has always been, you don't "need" more than a 500/570, anything past that is your testosterone speaking to you.
@@MatthewC137 there are also those with 5 brains cells, and those with thousands. And typically the ones with 5 are the ones who make us lose trail usage rights.
@@EC_ATV_Outdoors My 5 brain cells are more than adequate for critiquing 2 brain cell comments. Only fools and tyrants profess to know what others need.
My first- and no question the toughest, atv I ever owned. A 1985 Moto 4 200. As a 12 year old, it cemented my love for atv's, off-roading in general, and Yamaha. I sold some steers my grandpa had given me a few years prior. Paid $1600 for it brand new. Changed oil maaaaybe twice, washed the air filter in a parts washer (only purchased 1 new), rode in every flooded waterway on the farm and hit every creek I could find from a gravel road. Hauled countless 4x8 trailer loads of rocks from the field to the pond spillway and loads of about 16 alfalfa square bales in the hot Missouri sun. I was on top of the world working beside my dad and grandpa. No suspension that year either! We're so spoiled now lol! This has sparked my interest to find another one for the nostalgia. It totally smoked my cousins Honda 125 in a drag race too lol!
Please do more of these "throwback" reviews! The new market is pretty stagnant, and prices are so high most people i know are strictly buying used anyways. Some previous generation reviews would be really helpful for the crowd that has no use for a $10,000 atv!
I think you just like riding old sh*t. Makes you realize the difference between what you want to have fun and what you need to have fun. Don’t need a lot. Though back in the day that Yamaha was a lot.
First ATV I ever was on -- was one of the no-rear-suspension Moto 4's. A buddy had one, we rode 2-up wherever we could. Thing was bouncy, didn't have enough power to make it up big hills with both of us on, and it was an absolute blast!
The 80's... It didnt get any better.. Like the 3-wheeler content, even though alot of it was negative.. lol.. Rode mine all day Saturday, and unlike some of the quads with us, kept the bottom side down.. Cool video.. 👍
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I got a Moto-4 200 for my 13th birthday and had a couple years of adventures riding it around the family farm before upgrading to a Kodiak. It must have been a pre 86 model because it was the rigid frame before they added suspension but it was bulletproof and held up to all of the abuse of a teenager. I have fond memories of the full summer days spent riding and building forts.
Love the retro review idea! How about a series with some of those murderous three wheelers?? 200x, 350x, 250R, Big Red, Tecate, Tri-Z?? I know how you guys love the sport/race quads and im right there with you. The 350x was king of thumper hill for years after it was discontinued. Warrior??? Not a chance against the 350x. It wasnt untill Honda released the 400EX in the late 1990s that there was any thumper that could compete with the old 350X. I really enjoy your vids Dirt Obsexxion, and you too ATV On Demand. I still have about 8 three wheelers and ride club and public trails with them here in northern NY. Love my new Outlander 1000, but ill never get rid of any of my three wheelers. Ride Red! 🍻
Awesome collection! I actually thought about grabbing a 350x a few years ago, the one ATVONDEMAND had built, but rightfully wanted more than I was willing to go.. What part of NY you from? I'm originally from the Binghamton area, Greene to be exact..
I live near Camden NY which is about 15 miles north of the Thruway (I90) about halfway between Syracuse and Utica. We ride Oswego County ATV club trails as well as Tug Hill (Lewis and parts of Jefferson county).
That's exactly right! I just had trouble starting it on Friday, out of gas, realized I hadn't filled it since September 😅.. Lil gogo juice and she was purrin again!
I grew up driving my dad's yellow Yamaha 200 3 wheeler, and my current rig (at least until I upgrade to a Grizzly in a few weeks) is a 1987 Big Bear. It has the Moto 4 decals on the back as well. Fun bike to ride, very solid! My busted up back doesn't agree with me riding those old machines up the very rough trail to my cabin these days, unfortunately, hence the upgrade🤣🤣
I still own my first Yamaha moto4 gray color since the 80s. Shes aways been house garage kept.. by the way top speed is 45mph.. I'm glad I own the start of Yamaha's first wheeler history..
Thanks brother! That's the plan! Only problem is I end up wanting to keep them all! Had an eye out for a mint Warrior for awhile.. There's a few machines I really want to do videos on for posterity sake, but the Warrior holds a special place for me.
Chad ,I’d be giggling like a schoolgirl too on the Moto !Now that’s the speed I “need” to be riding, slow & steady wins the race ! Loved the old vids too !
That brings back so many good memories! I've start at 9 y.o. with a 1987 Yamaha Champ and climb my way through a Blaster and a Banshee. Now at 45 y.o. I still ride atv. I really like my Renegade xxc 1000r but...the cost of ownership is, I'd say different!
Lol! Yeah owning a biggen is definitely "different" in the cost department. You probably spend more in gas money for one ride than this baby's maintenance cost for a year! Love to hear that you're still rockinthe wheelers tho!
I wish aftermarket performance companies in the companies that make these ATVs and dirt bikes and other machines wouldn't give up on them and stop producing parts it's a shame it's the aftermarket and the factory Captain's machines in the back of their mind When developing new products all these old machines would be able to be maintained on a regular and you could put parts on them that would make them equal with the ATVs in Machinery coming out today
Beautiful ATV. Randomly stumbled upon your channel earlier today, and I've been hooked since. I recently got myself an '86 Moto 4 225CC with both front and rear suspension (and the different headlight setup, more similar to sub-modern late 90s-early 00s quads with the two rectangular halogen capsules). She was originally blue, but her previous owner painted her a beautiful olive green. Little to no rust anywhere with a working speedometer, trip meter, and lights. All that I'd ever need. Thank you for making such an amazing retro review on this underrated gem of an ATV platform. Just getting into the hobby as a 16 y/o and it feels nice to see my very own (or similar) ATV depicted in appreciative and nostalgic videos such as these. :)
Thanks brother! Love seeing a younger fella with a taste for the classics.. I got my first wheeler when I was 16 too.. It was a clapped out Warrior 350.. I loved it!
Sweet ride. At 70, I'm down to 12 machines to ride around the property. 3 Yamaha ATC's and 3 Honda ATC's among them. My latest project has been on Harvey Spooners channel, a red and white Warrior. Working 2 jobs doesn't leave me enough time to ride at home but working at a shop allows me to ride everything that comes in the door. Keep up the good work guys and watch out you don't get caught up in piles of panties on the side of the trail.
"down to 12 machines" - Love that flex!!! No promises on the panties tho! HAHAHA! I'm going to check that warrior project out.. A Warrior review is #1 on my to do list.. That was my first ATV
@@DirtObseXXion If you had any idea how many bad habits I traded in for my new "Obsession", you would understand how I was able to learn some serious lessons during my jail and prison tour. Coming out in one piece with a clear head was a good start and working on it every day is a must. The biggest decision I ever made was turning down 250K and regaining my "freedom", in trade for prison sentences with maxes of 10 years each. Best move I ever made! Later.{ best afternoon in my 40's-750 pushups in sets of 25 walking the yard}
Our first wheeler was a Honda TRX 200, probably in 84 or so. My dad would put it in third gear as I was to short to reach the shifter and let me ride around in the mud. Loved every minute of it. Now I have a Kodiak with all the bells and whistles that sits in the garage and collects dust. Think I need to pick up a new battery and go ride around in the mud.
These Moto 4 ATVs are the ones that got me into the game to this day I've had every single quad and dirt bike all started with the tri Moto in the Moto 4
Bro! Just discovered your channel and while searching past videos I come across this! My first ATV at 14 years old!, '87 or is it an '88? blue moto 4, still have it (im 50 years old!) My 86 year old dad still rides it up in our woods because no clutch lever and it has reverse. I still remember the day we bought it. Dealership was a motorsports AND gun dealer. Crazy, but I remember a "streetsweeper" 12guage (if you know, you know) for sale in the display case for $900. Please don't ask how I remember these things. Some things are burned in your brain. Became a gun guy and still an ATV guy. Currently have an '05 Predator 500 special? Thanks for doing a positive review of this machine! I thought it was lost to history. Consider me subscribed! Love your on machine narration, reminds me of my thoughts while I'M riding lol.
Comments like this make it all worth it! This one was an 86, Blue could have been a few years, the first 84 was blue. I love this machine, planning on keeping it forever! It's great around the house, as a pit bike at races, or casual trail riding!
Such amazing memories!! I bought one of these but it was blue in color I bought one of the very first ones in sudbury ontario and the price tag i remember was 3049.00 since i was paying cash the dude let me have it for 3000 tax in!!! I was one of the very first people in my area to have a 4 wheeler!! i was 25 then im 63 today and still own a sled and and atv!! Nothing like the outdoors!!!!!
Super cool. I so miss the 80s atvs. 😢 I'd give anything to go back to the early 90's just riding my 87 250x at the local area with mojave's and blasters. Being young was nice too lol
I own a 1988 model 350cc. I own both a 05 KingQuad and 08 Grizzly but even though the Moto-4 will murder my back at the end of the day, my KingQuad and Grizzly can be replaed. My long-been favorite ATV.
We had that same conversation last Friday.. I told FB is someone was steal one of my wheelers, I'd want them to take the Raptor.. I can get a new Raptor.. The moto would be much harder to replace
I'm not sure. It's clearly 90% Tri-moto with a steering stem and bolted on front suspension.. It's pretty handy though, I've found plenty of reasons to keep it around
It would be nice to see new models but I'd hate to see the Grizzly or Raptor change too much.. I know a lot of guys want to see a larger displacement option.. ATVs are difficult because upgrades mean increase cost and prices are already get out of reach for a lot of folks..
In Canada, the 4 wheel requirement didn't happen until 1986. In 1985 I bought a 225 DR ATC. Wonderful little machine that is still running today. As a younger man in them days, I was not easy on it but it was tougher than I ever would have guessed. It would float me in deep water as long as I kept my weight to the rear and the front air intake above the waterline. I often thought with larger tires, I could use it to fish with in calm water. In '86 the same machine was available but with 4 wheels however Yamaha sold a conversion kit to modify your tri-Moto to four wheels. I need a new bearing in the front yoke. I wonder if those kits are still available lol? P.S. If you ever have to dismount your Big Red in deep water, don't let go of the handlebars as it will turn turtle on you. The yammie will float along even being pulled with a rope !
