Sweet man. I remember seeing Yamaha trail bikes as a kid in the 80s. The yellow, the front fenders, the tank shapes, remind me of all the older boys who would go pinging around on those 2 strokes. Good memories.

between me and my buddy's we had a few YZ's, my first real mx bike was brand spanking new 1980 YZ250G. I thought I could handle it no problem coming off my can-am 175 qualifier. first race of the year at Maplehurst got a decent mid pack start with a full 50 man gate, grabbed a big handful exiting the first corner and flipped it in front of half the pack.... tire tracks all across my back... thankfully my race-craft improved over the years, lol.

I owned a 83’ YZ125 fun but not the most reliable, would over heat a lot, later owed a 96’ YZ125 amazing bike never had a 125 with that much power loved that bike, latest Yamaha is a 17’ 250X and once again great bike love the Yamahas, thanks for all your hard work to put this together

@@johnnyofast5924Had a 74 MX100 myself, and it did tend to take off in the upper rpm range. Funniest memory with that bike was right after I graduated from high school (79') and due to my physical conditioning (from track & cross country) and having enough hours on it to be comfortable in the upper rpm range, I was able to give a 75 CR125 Elsinore fits on a track. Good memories on it.

I'm a fan of the PE Suzuki's and RM's and both of those video's you did were great. I grew up as a Yamaha YZ, IT fan but veered off to Suzuki, but this video brought back great memories having 2 YZ80's in the early 80's. I still have 2 YZ80K's to rebuild and just picked up 3 1985 TT250's to add to the list of 2 other PE175s I'm working on atm. Appreciate all the work you do Tony, these videos are my time-out from the shed. Top effort!

The 1970 AT1-mx 125 kind of shocks me today. The first bike I ever rode was a 72 Yamaha mini-enduro 60 that some friends of mine had back then when we were kids. I had no idea how much it was based on Yamaha's first MX bike; they look so similar.

19:37 I have the 2019 YZ250 2-stroke, and I thought there was something funny about that picture. With the bike stand I bought, (same height as most I think), my tires were about 3" off the ground and front biased down. I did not want to lift the bike that high, (why?) so I cut down my stand and angled the top a bit lower at the back side to get my tires both 1" off the ground. Those are modified stands for that bike, and actually much easier to get your bike on. That last 2" of unnecessary lifting is the hardest, especially when tired after a ride.

I thought you gave short shrift to the fabulous one off ‘74 yz 250a & 360a.Also the other night I played your content with regards to the 1st edition of dirt bike magazine which I’m a proud owner of and you called ama d-37 desert ace and two times #1 plate winner in the heavyweight expert class Whitney martino. His name’s actually James martino but he was very well known in the tight knit desert racing circles as “whitey” martino. He was a fantastic pioneer desert racer who like the great riders of his era,JN Robert’s, Malcolm smith and max switzer started out racing behemoth British bsa’s triumphs and matchless’s that were stripped down for dirt. In those days it was all they had to race on. Whitey like JN and max was in the checkers mc, the fastest club in the desert who staged the annual 250 mile check chase run to the river. Every time whitey lined up he was a threat to win. The win went through him. His wife rosemarie also was a racer and a pioneer member of the desert daisy’s,the only female mc club in ama d-37. You’ve demonstrated weakness on your command of off roadings great history and the iron they competed on.your viewers deserve better.we’re listening.

Is anybody else having difficulty starting their 2019 YZ450FX/F? I had to replace the starter clutch within 138hrs of operation. The bike is still a challenge to fire up. Other than that, the 450FX is fantastic, the suspension is amazing as is the handling of the bike.

Here in the states, the 82's were still yellow & black, I had 3 of them. 1 was left stock, 1 was a practice bike & the other was my race bike...I sure wish I had held onto 1 of them. I still remember the manual, I can picture it like I saw it last month. My 1st bike was the 78 YZ80J which was a great bike for the most part...but the 82 changed everything, that thing ripped even before having my dads mechanics build the race bike, I could hardly hold onto it at 1st. My brother would ride my stock one when we went up to our cabin & he would constantly foul the plug, having me to ride ahead, get a new plug etc. My dad finally got so mad & asked me why he kept fouling the plug & I had to tell him that he rode it like a girl & wouldn't run the powerband. My dad was a NHRA racer & understood, he lit into my brother & told him to ride it like it's supposed to be ridden or don't ride it at all. He didn't ride much after that other than this old 3 wheeler we had that only went like 30mph. lolol

Maybe someone can help me identify an old Yamaha 250 I had about forty years ago. Second bike I ever owned. Paid $250 for it in about 1980 something. It was an old pile even back then, It was yellow, pretty sure it was single shock and had these two big air canisters on the forks. like 150-200mm in diameter! I don't think it had fork springs. Never ran right... I thought it was a YZ250X from the seventies... Can't find it on Google anywhere...

History in the making, like Germany taking over Poland. It amazes me how many people don't understand that the 4-stroke being forced on the industry has hurt the industry more than any other single thing that has ever happened in it. The 1986 production rule is a close second. I am talking about bike sales, peoples involvement in the industry,---and control of the industry. Don't get me wrong. I have seen the evolution of this sport from almost it's beginning and could buy a new bike when I was 12. I also port small 2-stroke engines for a living today, (because of this sport), and I know the way a 4-stroke makes power, hooks up to the ground really good. History will show it is outside influences that has killed this sport, at least for the masses. According to bike sales compared to the 70's and early 80's, the sport is 9/10ths dead already. The industry should have rejected the 4-stroke, because it was not "free market" friendly. It is very possible to price a product out of existence, when outside forces are involved. But more to your point, Doug Henry said it was always a 426, (I never checked the bore and stroke specs myself for the 1998 YZ400), and even though the FIM would not let 2-strokes over bore to be competitive with the faster 4-stroke, (the tool, faster, they used to get 2-strokes off a competitive starting line), it still took 8 years for the pro starting line to be 100% 4-strokes, (with RC and James being about the last,---and still winning on the 2-strokes). The price is the biggest problem, and it always will be with such intervention in any industry. The outside intervention also makes it harder for a new manufacture to compete,---if there ever is a new one again. If we understand what happened, history will show we messed up, as does the present.

My friend owns a 1981 Yamaha yz125h. A real mean machine for what it is. It's not the perfect bike, let me tell you that. The radiator on the number plate is just awful.. both riding it and looking at it. When you ride it you can feel the weight at the front when you slightly turn the bike. It makes the bike feel like it has two parts. The front wants to lie down, while the back of the bike wants to stay straight in line. Really weird feeling riding it. I dont like it (My opinion). The power is like.. well let's say you come up with a rally car and it has the first year with turbo. The turbo lag and when the turbo comes is just weird. The power is - Nothing on the bottom.. followed by a mild medium.. and a light boom at the top end. It's a fun bike to look at, but it's horrible to ride.
