Just a little paint and patience can turn a 9 into a 7! Ha! Ha! But the stupid grin you'll get when you ride it will give you away like a bad poker player. Cheers
I wish, but I bet they'll keep that ugly 4ss swing arm. Hands down I'd buy one with the r6 swing arm regardless of weight. I'd also like to see a fuel gauge and cruise control. But as usual, they don't listen to consumers and wonder how come people don't buy the bikes.
It's funny that when the first of the modern superbikes was launched it was (arguably) the 900 blade with about 112bhp at the rear, and since then sportsbikes have been getting more and more powerful. It'll be full circle if we all go back to deciding that 700-900cc and 115ish bhp was the place to be all along....
I don't think comparing it to "900's" is a thing - compare it to similar riding position/power. There are already ones out there-BUT THAT HASN'T STOPPED GSX-8R, DAYTONA 660 FROM COPYING CBR650R ( REMEMBER ITS NOT A BIG SELLER BECAUSE ITS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS) anyway gsxr 750 z900 are out there but seem ancient on the electric features
I rode the 900 blade when it first came out and it was too crazy for me, and I ended up getting a CBR600F2 which also, to be honest, was also a bit too much for me (but loved the looks). Many bikes later, I now have a 2022 XSR900 which is 10 HP more and 30 pounds lighter than that "insane" CBR900RR...but it sure doesn't feel like it. It's just a sweet and docile bike. Of course, it has some nasty teeth if you turn off the electronics completely (why would you do this?).
The first modern open class sports bike is the 98 R1, the first prototype of the modern electronically controlled Superbike is the 09 S1000RR in my view. The 92 blade was something else, an attempt to package a bigger engine in a 750 style chassis. Instead time has shown us the 750 class is defunct and open class sports bikes are 1,000cc plus inline 4 or v4 with significant electronics
this is the upgrade for the R6, not R1. assuming it has the MT-09 engine, it would have 30 HP less than a R1, with the same amount of torque. MT-09 horsepower figures are closer to a R6, at 120 HP. though it has 20 more ft lbs of torque. just my 2 cents i think there will be 2 upgrades from Yamaha. R6 replacement and ofc R1 replacement, maybe a V4
People have a hard time understanding power, unless they compare it endlessly to other models. The MT-09 runs about 120 hp and about 69 ft-lb. It's a middle road. MT-10 runs about 165 hp and 82 ft-lb. Unless you ride one, that additional power won't be understood. Similar to the 1290 Super Duke R, unless you ride one, that amount of torque can't be compared to something smaller.
@@jaffabaffa Yes its confirmed, a French magazine (Moto-station) published this after speaking to the marketing director. Riaan Neveling, KTM global marketing director, told us via text: “Are you waiting for a big RC? Keep your eyes peeled on our official sites and you should see something special within three months.” Our wait will finally be rewarded!
Even an rs660, which is in a bit of a category on its own. R7 is less power and over all not as good or premium. This r9 I think would be priced similarly or abit higher then the rs660 and probably make it a tough choice
For me the ZX has the upper hand at the moment. Call me crazy but the ZX looks like a proper race bike because of the swing arm. Besides, it comes with a fuel gauge. I only wish it had cruise control, but it's ride by cable. The R9 will probably keep the mt 09 swing arm. Hopefully they won't remove the fuel gauge and the CC.
@@ricardog4459 I like the zx cause it's roots are still there and havnt changed unlike yamaha getting rid of the r6 was 🤯 I hope the r9 can make up for tht otherwise I'm jumping on team kawi
i'm with whoever it was that said "yamaha had to subtly confirm this model to stop people dropping cash on the competition with this on the horizon" clearly they want to do a proper launch eventually, but how else do you get info about this out there
Would love to see the R9 for sure! Rob, have you seen "spy photos" of the 2025 Triumph Speed Triple RS with it's electronic suspension, high clip-ons and steering stabilizer? I very much enjoy your videos! Basically the RR without the 1/4 fairing...
The renderings are incredible, Rob! I'm going to book mark this stream to have some good ideas for an upcoming project! An R9 will sell by the shed loads. Hail to the triple!
These renderings look sexy! I'm having a new R7 delivered next month and if I feel like I've outgrown it this season, I'd definitely be putting my name on the list for an R9 next year!
Speaking of CP3 variations, have you got any insider knowledge about a Tenere 900 with that same CP3 engine ? Should be a more direct competition to bikes like the Tiger 900 etc.
Honestly it’ll be interesting if Yamaha were to put out the Tenere 900 as a replacement of their Super Tenere if they gave it a shaft drive and fairly capable suspension. The engine makes more power and torque, and might even weigh less.
@@popanimation1 Yeah, the Tracer 9 is a hundred pounds lighter than the Super Tenere. Seems like a Tenere 900 would be a win/win in the large ADV segment.
Every year I get baited into hoping the R9 would release, when they didn´t release it this year I swore to myself I won´t believe anything regarding the R9, and here I am, again, already calculating how long I need to save up for a possible R9 :(
Out of the competition that is not in the specific market of 900-ish CC middle-weight supersport, the correct comparison is not the Supersport950. But the PanigaleV2, also a WSSP competitor with 150hp. And then you have the MvAugusta F3 which is a 800cc triple also making about 150hp. Kawasaki having just released the new ZX6R-636 and Honda with the new CBR600RR. While the Kawa is not a homologation version for WSSP, the CBR600RR is. I don't think I would include the StreetTriple 765RS Moto2, although that is what they are using with Daytona plastics. But as of Ducati, you cannot compare it to the SuperSport950. Gotta go with the Panigale V2 as that is their competition in WSSP
Im having a hard time deciding on MT 9SP or R9. With my hip flexors having issues and my laziness to stretch them out. Im thinking the MT is the one. I had a 22 SP and had to sell to move across USA. Loved it, just wished I could add a fairing to it and lower the bars. The 24 has lower bars but concerned about the foot pegs. I guess I will buy the 09SP and see if I can get a test ride on the R9 later an if God allows, get it. Will look sick Blue SP or R9 next to my Blue C8.
A lot of beautiful renders, and looks is one of the factors that influences sales (it does for me so does sound) but in recent years not a lot of money is spent on paint and design esthetics ! Lets hope they don't mess it up !
I would like to see what direction the bike takes in terms of street-to-track bias. My best guess would be a higher track bias yet a lovely engine for some day-to-day riding with the only road downside being a more aggressive riding position and ergos. Exciting stuff. Curious to see how it performs on track for an intermediate to advanced rider looking for a step up from something like the R7.The R7 to R1 is was a very reasonable difference and a tripple may offer a very nice middle ground at a higher price point brand new. Time to start saving now hmm..
I have an FZ8 and would upgrade to an FZ1 if it were available. The r9 would be perfect if it matches the more upright ergonomics vs a race tuck just to get to work in the morning. The Ducati SS was another I'd looked at too, but it is pricey.
It will needs to have a different gearing in the transmission to compete on track with other super sports. The current MT09's top out around 135. Older r6's can run easily into the 150's plus. The current CP3 engine configuration just doesn't have enough top end speed to compete.
@@godzeus9702you forgot to mention that till 0-100 and most likely 0-160 kms per hour R9 will be quicker thant liter bike which loses traction much easier than less powerful bikes. Above 250 kms per hour liter always win but do you really need such a powerful bike? I doubt it
@@exothermal.sprocket it will be a mt09 engine it will be slow against any liter bike. The Yamaha YZF R7 is a MT07 same crap 💩 both are sticks in the mud. Slow as crap 💩 and a R9 will not ever come close to beating any of the liter bikes.
Love the triple engine and the sound. Hopefully the tune it to have a slightly higher rev to 12K, it’s odd to have a sports bike to rev less than 10K. And a proper sports chassis and suspension tune, the MT09 feels slightly top heavy.
4:56 r6 has had throttle by wire (YCC-T) since 2006.. Yamaha put it on the r6 even before the r1 as it's a tech that would benefit drivers during races and the r6 is the more track focused model.
Yamaha are narrowing in on something sweet. I love my 2021 MT-09 and like how they’ve updated the geometry to a slightly sportier rider position for the 2024 MT-09. The R6 never lit my fire and the R1 always seemed way overkill for my riding style. I like to shred mountain twisties. Torque, handling, and ergonomics are key. I think a production R9 could fit that niche quite nicely.
I thought someone had already said that the street one is ready to go and they are still working on race version. No 900 types ? Ducati, z900, gsx s/r 750 .....
I think 🤔💭 like all sports bikes it looks awesome I’m too old and stiff joints to ride one but there still my favourite class of bike there beautiful 😍
Just visited my local Yamaha dealer and was interested in either MT-09 or XSR 900GP but was informed to wait out for the R9. I'll wait for Eicma to see the R9 before making my next bike purchasing decision.
the MT-09 SP is 11.8k so I would expect the R9 to come in at around 12- 12.5k or even more considering how much the XSR-900gp is, which is 2k higher than Kawasaki zx6r and Honda 600rr. Suzuki needs the GSX-R750 to comeback too at around 11k and would be the pick of the bunch.
You didn't mention anything about the middle weight GSXR 750. My all time middleweight favorite. I think it's still a champion in the middle weight class. Just my 2 cents chip in. 😊 Love your reviews! Keep revving.
I am very excited for this, I got berated and mocked not long ago on Yamaha Reddit for expressing this. I simply left the Reddit but part of me says I should have stayed just so that when it does happen I could respond with indignation. Yeah it's kinda sad about the R1, but I am not surprised, and positive about what lies ahead rather than crying about it like so many others.
I couldnt count the number of inaccuracies in this video. With that said, the cp3 engine needs overhauled to become a sportbike engine, especially if theyre going to race it. I don't want another naked bike with plastic. The only way I would skip buying an R1 this year is if they completely rework the R9 to be a true sportbike and if they brought out a R9M model.
I told people already when they first announced the R7 that an R9 is coming out and that is will sell more than the R7 and no one believed me "An R9 makes no sense at all, it will not come out and it would not sell anyways because nobody wants it" "The R7 makes much more sense because it will be used a lot in Twin cup and Twin competition" and so on. The fact is that the MT-09 engine is a better engine for a street bike that people would wanna keep for longer than the MT-07 engine and also the R9 will then with the MT09 engine, be much closer to the now missing R6 and after 2025 remember also the R1 will be missing from the street legal lineup and will also only be sold as a track bike like the R6. While the R9 will not fill the void completely after the R1 it is more than enough for the street. I just hope that Yamaha does not make the R9 as aggressive as the R7 because that is the only complaint people have with the R7, they should have made it more semi-aggressive like the Aprilia RS 660 and the Ducati Supersport 950, those bikes still feels very sporty while riding but the clip-ons are raised just a bit so that you are more comfortable and can ride for longer. That being said I do not want the R9 to be like the Z1000SX / Ninja 1000SX where you are sitting straight up with your back, that just feels weird to ride a sportbike like that and it also looks really weird. Let's just hope now, that Yamaha is also having the R10 in the pipeline (MT-10 in a comfortable supersport-bike) and we would have a really nice streetfighter and comfy supersport-bike range =)
R1 has been somewhat my dream bike, but really dont think a litre bike is necessary. The day this R9 is released I will be putting in my order. Currently on a Daytona 675R so the R7 doesnt cut it.
@@claesnorell8702 almost all the colors are cool to a degree that you can't decide which one is the best and you don't see much verities on other bikes in dealers
@@undecodable6145 Offering lots of colourways is expensive. I already think the R7 is expensive for what it is. I can only imagine what a real R9 would cost. Yamaha are discontinuing the R1 partly because it’s so expensive that they don’t sell that many of them. Most manufacturers are trying to offer cheaper bikes that sell in higher volumes. Yamaha clearly went for that with the R7.
Interesting vid. Presumably it would cost about a grand more than the XSR900 GP. I'd love to see Suzuki bring back an updated GSXR750. Very unlikeky though sadly.
Will most definitely consider the R9, if and only if the ergonomics are at least as comfortable as the Ducati Supersport or Suzuki 8R. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Yamaha will follow the R7 and make a very pretty bike that's way too uncomfortable for street use. Meanwhile I'm getting the new MT09.
You and your electronics - keep it simple. The 900cc tripple in a sports frame would be great but in sunlight riding - I'll take analogue gauges any day over reflective TFT's Back to ya phone Bob.🤣
What I’m hoping for is a more sport touring/standard feet position like the mt09 has. I’m not 20 anymore I have zero desire to be at a high forward lean that’s uncomfortable after 20 minutes
Yamaha please give us Brembo master cylinders front and rear along with brakes too with braided lines On the R9 Also a power bump from 118hp to atleast 150hp Also ohlins front and rear suspension. This is insanely optimistic But one can dream.
The difference between the MT09 and the R9 will be very similar to the difference between the MT10 and the R1... hotter cams, better rods, higher gearing...
If it has the build quality of the R7, they can keep it. Replacing their top tier sport bikes with crappy lookalikes is just a sad reality of the dying superbike.
@@juanesteban8938its very aggressive. Seat is high and clip ons low making it a bit uncomfortable for some. I also hope R9mis not as aggressive as the R7.
If this becomes reality, I hope it's not just Yamaha putting a fairing on the MT09 making an MT09-R like they did with the MT07-R, otherwise known as the R7. Is production cost really that high that Yamaha needs to make one chassis and engine for two different lines of motorcycles? Is the entire YZF-R series getting sucked up by the MT series of bikes?
I'm curious to see how Suzuki's 8r does and if that will inspire other manufacturers to come out with a bike that has naked ergos and supersport looks that doesn't break the bank.
@@captainaverage721 yeah but not close enough to compare to an RS 660 or Daytona. I think the CBR650R, SV650X, Ninja 650 and R7 would be categorized as "sport" rather than supersport or street
PLEASE Yamaha, build this bike!!!!! Imo there’s a huge hole in the market place for a bike like this. Currently, if you’re an experienced sport rider who likes fairings and clip ons but don’t want 200hp and don’t have 20k $ plus to spend, you’re basically out of luck you have to buy used. In comparison to the Ducati SS i would hope the R9 would be lighter, more agile, and at least a couple of grand cheaper. Please Yamaha, fill this massive hole in the market with your product
