YAMAHA'S SCR950 was one of the best surprises to come out of last autumn's bike shows: a properly cool-looking scrambler, with wire-spoked wheels, steel mudguards and an XT500-like seamless tank.
And all Yamaha had done was adapt an XV950R cruiser. Custom-builders had done it, so why not? The air-cooled V-twin cruiser platform is part of what gives it its genuine custom-bike look.
Of course that meant it wouldn't actually go off-road. Cruisers are near the bottom of my list of things to tackle trails on, just above ice skates.
So I arrived at the press launch of the bike in Sardinia with no more expectation of going trail riding than had it been the new R6. But trail riding we did.
Yamaha's not pretending it's an off-road bike. In the pre-ride presentation, they described it as a "road bike adapted for a bit of off-roading".
The adaptations include a new sub-frame, raising the seat by 140mm to 838mm. Take off one of the side panels and you'll find a big empty space beneath the new straight, flat seat.
The front wheel is now a 19-inch, which also raises the ground clearance by 10mm to 145mm. And it's got Bridgestone Trail Wing dual-purpose tyres.

He is just reading the press pack and this is a dreary review, no passion at all. Watch this one instead (yes the actual review starts a minute or two in) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tv-1wmRSxvM.html

I watched this, but I think the SCR review by Motoman is better. Nice Thai scenery, as well. Check it out.

You got it right, it just feels heavy when you touch it... shocking if you're expecting a lighter version of an older bike or their sport bikes with the modern, vintage feel like the *XSR900.* That's the bike I would take out of these modern, vintage bikes... still of throwback style, but held together by the FZ-09 frame. The XSR900 more in line with a comparison between Ducati's Scrambler line, but a better imagined bike without losing utility for the cooling system of find on the cylinder. Torque all around the range, good electronics, and a solid bike that just looks the part. I respect them for going there and I do love the way the Desert Sled is made, but for usage... XSR900 takes it. The SCR950 would be a head to head comparison with Honda's Rebel line.

You can't compare the XSR with this bike.

Well, you'd have to go back in history to understand what the term scrambler ment, before you can make clear what a scrambler is ment to be, a scrambler is a bike made up of other bits of bike's then you take it to the dirt of hooliganism with your friends in the dirt and you chucked it around and enjoy, that is what scrambling was absolutely about. So no matter what you had, or could afford, you had a bike that you could scramble ... That's your scrambler mate. It helps if you're more responsible in exspressing the history, of what scrambling was about, then one can truly make their own personal judgement on view to making a scrambler, and making a bike your own, making it yours is what makes a scrambler. Cheers 😘❤️💞

Goof job balancing the acid comments and a real review. I find most reviewers praise the style and forget that technology is enough evolved now that just copying a 30yo project is not cutting.

Yamaha R1/16 tooth sprocket and a spacer machined at the rear, throw a chain on it...then you can use the trails with the suspension jack up kit from Germany!

nice looking but WAY too heavy for its intended purpose. And why does that air cleaner have to stick out like a huge hemorroid??? And here it is late 2018 with the 2019's in the showrooms these Yamis were a sales failure as they were only built the one year and most Yamaha dealers still have at least one still in stock with prices as low as $5300. Yamaha would have been smarter to build these from a lighter platform bike...perhaps a 650 or 700. Oh well live and learn.

Are you sure about ABS comimg "standard?" Everything I've read on this indicates it does NOT come with ABS or traction control, even as an option.

If you factor in the money you will be spending on repairs on the Ducati then the Ducati is far more expensive. lol
