Cant wait to see more ultra portable groove boxes from bigger companies. Its certainly a interesting and competitive market currently almost entirely dominated by boutique hardware. This is a great day for this community!
@@fentanyljones6956deluge is currently the king in this field imo. Not the most portable, or the most sexy, but it has the best workflow of any device I’ve tried (also force, mpc live 2, maschine mk3, and some elektron boxes). Only downside is sound design being a little unintuitive. Would definitely love to see more companies try their hand at a deluge-like.
I can't wait to hear all the tracks produced by poor hipsters in coffee shops on a portable speaker before the 4 hour battery runs out. What a time to be alive! Community!
@@mcstabba Nah, OP-Z is sturdy. I've taken it to burning man multiple times carrying it around in a pocket and shit. Don't sit on your synths and they'll be fine. No hate to Yamaha, though- I want one of these.
@@MikeyJ223 The OP-Z is known to not be durable. After some time they tend to fall apart unfortunately. It's the main reason I didn't buy one. Such a shame.
Very cool, but for the love of god how much does a screen cost in 2023? Why do I have to take a semester of "Lights and Blinking 301" just to write a soundcloud trap beat? Jesus, dude.
What is the point of a hardware synth if you need software on additional devices to access many of its features, you might as well just use software outright & save yourself this purchase. The point of hardware is to have freedom from software on computers.
That actually supports my point, I shouldn't need a seperate device running software to gain full access to a hardware synth, you might as well run a synth app & save yourself the bank @@jeroendeclercq7580
@@synclavier5405And $399 according to the rest of them. This is much cheaper than the OP-Z, which also comes with the social stigma of owning a Teenage Engineering product. Absolute win.
Its great seeing Yamaha synths doing something interesting again, they should consider releasing their classic synths in a modern format like what Korg is doing.
I can see the board at teenage engineering right now, as their competitive response, furiously trying to decide between doubling their prices, or multiplying them by ten. 🤦
I like the engine and app/content, connectivity is also decent, live performance features, but external look and form factor is complete nonsence. It’s like made by AI. Look at DX200 and AN200, RM1X - this is one of best grooveboxes. Side buttons, too long, too narrow. Cigarette color scheme. Looks like it consists of two different boxes. Video feature and app - OP-1 wannabe or OP-Z for grown ups ? One of the most controversial products i’ve ever seen for the last 3-5 years.
I don't understand these lifestyle products. In my world a synthesizer is a permanent installation weigihing in at least 600 lb. And only the five richest kings of Europe could own one.
Not bad, an obvious play for Teenage Engineering's segment, but I think the lack of even a simple seven-segment display is crippling, and the weird button placement around the outside is a daft idea. Funky design still needs to be good design.
I also feel we are destined to be on this earth in order to have more consumer products. Feels like our sole purpose somehow. Amazing times. F…. love! give us chips and software! yey!
One could think that they could be working towards becoming a threat to Akai, the Mod X OS has more in common with the current MPC OS than I think most ppl realize. A true competitor in the pad style sampling workstation arena would be a good thing, Akai currently has no reason to offer anything truly amazing because there's nobody that's a serious threat when it comes to courting away their user base. Maschine + I don't feel qualifies as an actual competitor. Same with the SP404mk2.
They blatantly took design cues from TE, which could very well influence how the product is perceived by some amount of potential buyers. Actually now that I think about it, Im a bit surprised that TE didn't come up with the visualizer concept first, it seems like something TE would totally do. @@LoveMeBack
Soon to be featured on ‘Bad Gear’ with Florian creating killer beats &grooves with the SEQTRACK while the snobby Eurorack modular elite hate on this one.
YESSSSSSS YESSSSSSSSS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally YAMAHA is back!!!!!!!! I was waiting you since my RM1x…..!! By the way I still got it because it was my first gear in 1997…. I love it…. IM SO HAPPY !!!!!!!!!!
Although I live in the Elektron ecosystem and I am completely satisfied with their equipment, what Yamaha has done in this video is impressive. I like that they go beyond and create something more than just a groovebox. Beautiful design, beautiful software, original visualization. Keep it up!
There is lots of potential in these type of devices if the integration of tablets and phones works seamless. Because you can have the music hardware hands-on super-portable thing, but also stay connected and expand the workflow with more editing detail and depth, and all the community stuff going on.
Stoked on this…not really a Yamaha fav accept the FGDP50 and there subkick bass drum mic but although this is an obvious rip off of Teenage Engineering OP-Z…. It’s probobly more affordable and has my attention it’s actually pretty cool right down to the aesthetic…I see you Yamaha making a come up! Come out with a cool 25 key midi synth with that goes with this next!
I feel like the visualizations look cool but will get boring quickly. They could have instead put all that effort into making the app a "screen" for the device. Imagine the screen that the OP1 has, but now it's your phone, or a tablet. It gives a lot more possibilities. The animations are nice but how do they expect people to use them? For live performances? Streaming? I'm not going to look at it while I'm trying out sounds or composing a melody.
i realy have waited for an RS 7000 successor ... this is a realy great disappointment yahama. all hope died 😞 don't get me wrong. i find it good that you come back to the groovebox market. but why like this? fucking mini ports. knobs at the sides, no display at all 😟
Nice job Yamaha. I bought a DGX 670 digital piano last year for my daughter to learn how to play piano and we both love it. Now if only you'd make a competitive bike for Fabio Quartararo, I'd be very happy😂.
And yet it’s going for 399 on many retailers which is wild. The suggested msrp is supposedly 599 so idk why the street price is so much lower at the moment.
I'll be honest while i think this is cool it is just to bland for me and just does not excite me. I cannot see myself walking in a room looking at it and have that same feeling as i get with a proper sized piece of gear. Also can we drop the phone app crap unless you promise to keep it supported for years to come i genuinely think it's a dumb move. listen just cause everyone has a phone does not mean everything needs to be tied to it. But that is just my take. I really do hope the people who get them enjoy them and have fun cause that's what matters most at the end of the day haha.
You got me until you said that deeper sound design options are available only via the app. I don't buy hardware just to spend time with my computer. The app does not support an OS of my choice - in fact, it does not support any free OS. It's nice to see Yamaha being once again more active in the synth area though.
that cuts costs and even most mpc owners use that connected to their computers. It still is extremely ideal to travel with which also makes it ideal to perform live with.
Honestly, I like they way they handled it. A simple interface with basic options works really well for me when I'm focused on creating. The additional options being there through an external app is a bonus.
Because if you take this, the finger drumming sampler they came out with last year and the Mod X Operating system and put out a product with the features from all 3 in a product you would have a very strong MPC competitor.@@MRL8770
@@donnydarko7624People will be lining up to see you performing with the seqtrak. It even has a portable speaker, so you don't need to lug around a whole sound system😂
LOOPOP!!!! Go do it Do it!!! That aside, this looks great. If the price is right, I'm hitting the BUY button. If my second round of the EP-133 is broken too, I'll get a refund and apply it to this. I bet Yamaha ain't shippin' no broken parts. Put TE to shame.
No chromatic scales?! That seems like it would be a frustration waiting to happen. Looks cool though! I think the novation circuit looks more intuitive but might be fun to give this thing a chance!
This is something special. This is menu dive free. Electron and TE learned all they know from Yamaha, Korg and Roland’s hardware. Yamaha sequencers/arrangers/groovebox’s and workstation set the standard for live looping alongside AKAI MPC workflow. Synchronizing Audio and Midi. RS7000?!! This isn’t a gimmick, and I’m guessing it won’t be over priced. This is a game changer. I’m grateful to see Yamaha continually innovating and reimagining
So many functions only in the app where you dive deeeeep. (not saying app is a bad idead, but instead that there is you menu dive) IMO MPC workflow is horrible - it led nowhere except selling the MPC. This was MPC1000 and even supercharged with JJOS.
Where can I download the Yamaha original demo projects ? I 've delete the original demo project in Seqtrack I ve try to re-install the app, but nothing.
This looks quite the thing. Can’t wait to see what it can yield. Not the most perfect layout for now. But please keep going that way, Yamaha. You’re doing it right. That’s an op-Z killer right there.
I'm interested to learn in what way it has been crippled to prevent people from getting everything in one device so they can desperately try to buy a whole bunch of Yamaha products to hopefully get everything you need to make an entire song for real.
At $599, I gotta be honest. This looks like a skip for me. Even the UI/UX alone looks like a chore to use. I enjoy the TE KO2 quite a bit. Sucks some people had issues with the fader (none for me). I think the Electron Digitakt is actually a better competitor or comparison to the SEQTRAK, and it can be found used for about the same price. The *tact is my desert island device. I don't want to cast too much shade. It looks cool. I'm glad that Yamaha is out there trying to push the market forward. I hope people buy loads of them and create great music.
You have up to 16 seconds for each sample. You can have 7 samples per project. It is nowhere mentioned if mono or stereo. However, the audio-in is a stereo connection and we can "resample" (record audio from the unit into a sample slot), so hopefully stereo samples. It would seem that the app will convert samples into the right format before they are sent to the unit. Further it looks like that samples can't be played chromatically, but it seems that you can change the pitch with parameter locks.
@@Flava_Clown ty flava - on another video, i’ve been told 500 mb of memory and stereo samples transferable. i’ve tried it, and it works. i’ve recieved it today. quality build is average. i feel like the keyboard buttons won’t last long. and the machine is quite light. very plasticky vise overall.
Very good only the MIDI implementation is not standard , why every drum has its own MIDI track. How can one send all drums to channel 10 it’s not defined on manual. Also wireless MIDI seems to be out of questione.g. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are not supported for Windows.
Basically, a more complete Op-Z. Let’s see what we get when others get their hands on it and put it through its paces. Recording straight into the DAW is nice.
Now. If that App worked as a (fully sync'ed) plugin in a DAW with multi-track outputs, that would have been awesome! You could work on the device in standalone mode, connect it to the plugin, get everything transferred/sync'ed and have multiple outputs within a DAW. Or you could also work live within a DAW, while everything is sync'ed, the device could work as a MIDI controller for the plugin. Otherwise, I don't think Seqtrak brings anything new to the table, besides cool design..
TRIPLET Beat or 3/4, what's the best way to make this on SeqTrak? Is it setting the Bar Length to 12 instead of 16? or is there some better way (Also, we'd wish that the Repeater could be set to Triplet Values also, if you want them, or not, if you don't for a particular Project.)
Love the utilization of the vertical surfaces with labeled buttons. I still want an OP1, but I don’t want to pay for it. Which is why I’ll be getting one of these instead.
I have the OP-Z and this seems to be on that same vain, but with a more robust case. The price point definitely gonna shake up the market. Big TE fan, but also glad to see other manufacturers coming in to the market.
Now all i need is to check if you need a hammer or a feather to do push encoder presses. Simply because most companies can ruin a great product with part selection. Overall impressive device. Gonna find a testing unit hopefully.
In case you should wonder exactly how those +2000 onboard sounds sound, I did demos of all of them... Took a while, but I was curious, too! ru-vid.com/group/PLkGHDTvF4ccfMez8WJd4j9qsYnNcwK5mg
I wish the "Audio In" had it's own FX settings! (Right now, the master Effect is added to it but no others? And the Master Effect is applied to everything?)
