How can you do a review of a "silent" guitar and not play even one time without the amp to see how silent/quiet it is?

Owned this guitar's predecessor, the SLG120n for 5+ years now. I travel a lot. It's never been turned down as hand luggage on over 300 flights, including on some spectacularly rickety little planes in the Philippines. Its survived bus trips in Central America and trains to tibet. It sounds amazing even now. I plug my old iPod nano into it and jam along in airport departure lounges. If you don't need this guitar, its just a decent and quirky guitar. If your lifestyle means you need it, it is literally the best musical purchase you could ever make without exception.

Hey guys. I'm blown away by this review in a whole.. I don't know what made a greater effect on me: silent guitar (I didn't even knew existed) and to me great sound that makes, the shape of it that changes perspective on a few things, the background music while the host is talking, the hosts voice, the scene of a whole room, color of the wood in the background, the song he plays at the end (I know its the same like the one in the background) expectancy of autumn.. Enjoyed it so much I'm watching it over and over all day.. After a few times I watched it, I got somewhat confused.. Keep in mind I'm not musician and I don't play any instrument so I apologize for not being more concise and not knowing correct names for "things". I did google some basics to make things easier but still.. Is squeaking noise ( the sound of sliding fingers along the wire) more pronounced in steel wires than nylon ones? What I'm assuming is this: Yes, squeaking is less pronounced in nylon ones. With that in mind listening and watching the part that starts at 5:30 confuses me.. Video shows Mickey (?) playing nylon than steel than nylon again. But it seemed like he was playing on steel while shown playing nylon (maybe not every time).. I believe Mickey used loop here (that thing that records your play and loops it while you play another layer?) or the sound was overlapped later and he probably played with treble and maybe effects and that all makes more uncertainties.. I'm trying to figure what I really like better. Nylon or steel. Is steel more suitable for certain part of song? Can't get a clue really because of aforementioned problems.. I know flat wound strings exist to and while I personally don't hear the difference (between round vs flat wound steel wires) I assume flat ones are less prone to that squeak, is that correct? I'm not sure because videos I watched were focused "on sound" rather than those "features" I'm interested in. Care to comment? Anyone?

These guitars are VERY good in a live situation, if you have an acoustic guitar in your band. With a couple minor tweaks on the front of house EQ, the tone of these sits perfectly in a mix, the signal is even, with very few spikes, and it gives A perfect acoustic guitar sound as a piece of the whole soundscape. If you play that solo, it is not the greatest tone, but still works reasonably well through a large PA system. Advantages: with no body to resonate, there are zero feedback issues; you can stand on a large stage, with the monitors cranked, and you don't worry about it howling, even if you put it down and forget to turn down the volume… No need to find the EQ notch, no need for a phase switch, and no problems if you accidentally bump the body, no loud thuds to annoy the sound guy. Plus, if your rhythm guitar player is a hot girl, you can still see most of her outfit… and being a unique looking instrument, it generates some amount of interest in the audience. Recording? Not so much... but I just wanted to point out that this is much more than a practice instrument

The SLG200S didn't sound good no matter what variation was used on the preamp, but the SLG200N sounded great with almost everything but the chorus effect. Strongly considering getting the latter
@tz7813
@tz7813 2 года назад
I originally bought the older SLG110 a decade ago. Loved it. Now have SLG200 steel string AND nylon. Main reason? Convenience. They can do everything, and the onboard tuner and effects are great. The design is so lightweight and comfortable, that everything else starts to feel really heavy and cumbersome. The 200 has been around for about 7-8 years now, so I’d be expecting an upgraded version soon? One upgrade that would make it a show stopper would be the addition of at least one electric guitar pickup, wired through the onboard preamp? If that signal could also be blended to the under saddle pickup already installed, it would truly be an almost unbeatable guitar for practice and even stage performance. YAMAHA, PLEASE ADD A MINI HUMBUCKER OR TWO!!!!😎

Have the "original" SLG100S for years now and I really like it (I am a amateur). Excellent built quality! One thing I noticed is that it stays in tune "forever", while all my other guitars have to be tuned after minimal temperature change in the room, or just standing for a few days. On the other hand, it is bothering that it has no built-in tuner, which would be really no effort these days... Also, some more effects (like distortion etc.) and adjustable parameters would only be a tiny extra microchip + 3 potentiometers. BTW: sounds excellent (my opinion) with ELIXIR strings.

I've been looking for a thinline electric acoustic for years, but every one I've looked at the body was too wide for my tastes. I bought one used from a friend several years ago, but the body was like 3" thick, certainly not thinline, so I gave it to my nephew for Christmas. This looks like it might fit my personal likes perfectly. I'll have to go to a music story & try one out, before I commit.

Wow ! I was impressed with the sound of my 1st generation SLG100S which doesn't have the "modelling" but these really raise the bar. They're prettier too and I presume they'll play as well. I feel an upgrade coming on ;-)

Until you play one of these, you can't imagine how good it is. With this and a modified Tele, I've got everything I need for a gig. However, I still take a Fishman-equipped Martin along just in case.

Have a SLG 130NW love mine especially you have kids around you can put on headphone. Wish the saddle can be slightly lower even I have managed to max the clearance... Still slightly higher than all my classical guitars.

I use my Slg200S with an Xvive U2 wireless guitar system into a set of Line 6 StageSource L2t powered speakers that has acoustic modeling. The sound is pure heavenly angel song. When used with the TC Helicon PlaysAcoustic it is even MORE amazing. (Note: This guitar would NOT work with my Line 6 G10 wireless guitar system. Also the Xvive U2 articulates so it folds in close to the guitar instead of poking you in the belly.)

Sounds great, but no mention about the "action"??? Poor action could be a deal breaker.

The action on these things are really good. And yes he is right you can adjust it,especially because these guitars have double truss rods for more stability.

Dude - nice review, but if you want to make GREAT reviews in the future - perhaps a couple of things that would have made it better for me: 1. Show more of the guitar and less of the presenter. There were some stretches where we get a full close-up of the presenters face while he is talking about some feature of the guitar. 2. Try not to flip the object around which you are reviewing. It mad for a "nervous" kind of feeling while watching. A few times, I longed to just see a long, steady shot of the controls, knobs and buttons, perhaps a few seconds of the full instrument without movement, a close-up on the connections, etc. Otherwise, many thanks for the review!

Yamaha does nice products, i have THR10 and the X version, both are great for practice. How much is the SLG200S ? If one of you guy owned one tell me, is it worth it, i never had an acoustic guitar.
