Hi , Great content ! Thanks for sharing your opinions . In the Yamaha StagePas 600 BT have a pretty beefy & tight low end ? Could you tell us if it shares any characteristics with the Yamaha StagePas 1k , with Frequency response and SPL ?

@TheAngrySoundTech Hey, I was curious about @13:33 where you discuss using the MKII's with an external mixer - I was wondering how you connect that external console. The reason being that while the manual states: "For high-level signals (including electronic musical instruments and audio devices), set the switches to the LINE position" regarding Channel 1-3 inputs. This statement clearly leads techs to connect the output of their mixer into CH 1-3, however, the manual then goes on later to state "We recommend that you use this jack if you plan to input a line-level signal from an external device such as a mixing console." in regards to the LINK INPUT JACK. This crucial sentence is at the end of a long drawn out blurb about the Link Input that I believe many gloss over. Further into the manual on Page 19 a chart describe the different input characteristics: The CH 1 XLR Line input is listed as having +16 dBu "Max Before Clipping" whereas the Link In XLR is listed at +24 dBu "Max Before Clipping". This would lead me to believe that the MKII should have more headroom or max volume for you at the wedding dances (assuming that you've been connecting the mixer output to CH 1, 2 or 3 and not the LINK INPUT that is advised). For myself, I'd actually like to use the system for live sound of myself and possibly trio or possible quartet gigs. I would expect bassist to bring their amp in addition to possibly putting a little of their signal into the system as well as micing of the drummer bass drum. Other than that guitar and vocals would be the remainder of the instrumentation. With 2 MKII's I would have enough inputs to leave an external mixer at home but I think the glaring omission on the Mark II is that they have not included a parametric or graphic EQ for the Main Output -- why not? Also, the monitor out mix appears to be a carbon copy of the Main mix -- All you have is an overall volume control for the monitor out. These limitations lead me to the idea that I would of course be better off simply getting a pair of the simplified DLX1K's and using an external mixer with more channels, features, routing etc. So in this scenario where I pick up a pair of DLX1K's I would be plugging into the Left and Right speakers through the 'LINK INPUT JACK' as recommended in the MKII manual. I know that you have said to a previous poster that you do not think that a pair of MKII/DLX would work for a 'rock band' as he called it. I just want to clarify if you have been using the LINK INPUT JACK when using an external mixer - other products do not advise the use of a Link Input and I know there are other RU-vidrs who have missed this piece of information regarding Yamaha's recommended practice for external mixers. The DLX's are significantly cheaper than the Evolve 50 in Canada and come with a better carry case and are a bit shorter so will fit in my low ceiling basement for rehearsal without the need of purchasing a shorter column connector (would be $150 CAD a piece for me if I go EV route to use in my home lol). There are not DLX or MKII's in inventory anywhere near me so I thought I would reach out and see if you are using the MKII as Yamaha recommends? There may be even more volume on tap for your DJ use and live sound use if not - and I'd love to hear back from you if connecting the external mixer through the LINK INPUTS improves your outlook on the upper limits/use cases of these Yamaha systems. Hi, Happy New Year and all the best for 2024! How do you reckon this would sound against the JBL Eon1 mk2 battery powered column array?

I've only ever owned and used the original JBL Eon One column array. I have not used the battery powered MKII. I would just say if you're trying to decide between the two I would only buy the JBL if I needed a battery powered speaker. If you don't need battery powered but you want to go with JBL I'd spend a little more and get the JBL PRX One instead. I haven't used either of the JBL columns referenced but I'd say the Eon One MK2 will not perform as well as the Stagepas 1K MKII but the PRX One will out perform the Yamaha. Sound and reliability are unknown though has I haven't use either of them. I like how long the line is in the PRX One. It should project better than your average column array.

Hi thanks for your reply, yeah the PRX1 looks great! wish it was battery powered as well. I'm after a really nice sounding battery powered speaker for busking as I cant carry/wheel around a powered speaker with a Geny or 12V batteries and mixer etc. Thanks for your great honest reviews! Yeah if you need a battery powered speaker the JBL Eon One MKII is the best option. I'd also recommend taking a look at the Yamaha Stagepas 200 BTR. I've got a review on my channel about that speaker. I complain about the battery quite a bit but that's mostly because of the power off battery drain. The speaker itself is quite nice. I use it regularly. I'll note the tough thing about trying to make the PRX One battery powered is that it's just too big of a speaker. I think you'd end up with some poor battery life. There is a give and take when it comes to speaker output Vs battery life. That's why the Eon One MKII is not as loud if it's running on battery power. I think it was noted as about 4 db less max spl output.

Great review but got to admit that it's not an easy balance Yamaha is trying to strike with these. But ok, a trade in / upgrade plan with MKI would be a nobel thing to do for Yamaha. I do wonder how something like dB Technologies ES 1002 active PA system would stack up to this for a few hundred dollar more. 🤔It's a very intriguing niche though I must say especially for backing track + vocal scenario for 100 people that has to deal with subpar acoustics in general.

I've wondered about the DB Tech columns as well. Haven't been willing to pull the trigger on them yet though. So far I'm satisfied with my MKII's so I won't be swapping them out for anything else anytime soon.

What can you say about the pole's stability? Are the poles swinging or all poles parts perfectly match? How does the stagepass do compare to the dxr10 mkii?

I had the original stagepas 1K but returned it for a couple of the reasons that Brian talked about. While doing a demo with a buddy of mine, even my friend commented on how when he walked away there was a certain point where the sound just dropped off. Like Brian said, that is inherent to column arrays. Also, I felt it was just a little lacking in output. I found myself having to run it a little hotter than I prefer and that made me a bit uncomfortable because I felt it would not cover as many situations as I had hoped. Great sounding unit I just don't think it was for me. Our use was acoustic guitar and vocals in big and small areas. I had the original DXR10s and now have DXR10mkiis. Based on my experience, I think the DXR10mkiis would absolutely smoke the stagepas 1K mkii and overall SPL output. Sure you would get a little better low end from the stagepas if you are not using subs under the DXRs but for overall output level I think the DXR10s win by a long shot - especially since they're rated at 132db I think anyways. I know your questions were for Brian and I would like to read his take on it as well. Thanks!

I have 2 of MKI's and been using it for 2 years. It took me a bit to get comfortable with them [not to clip them and still get the volume I want] but now I'm satisfied. But I have to say, I use them with external mixer [Yamaha MG10xu]. My events are outdoors up to 100 people, usually bellow that. Regarding poles stability they are great fit, no swinging. One system even got knocked over by overly enthusiastic partygoer and just kept on playing, nothing detached itself, not a scratch. I like the versatility of them, I even use one system for cocktail/lounge/background music, dispersion is good.

@@pipsic That's crazy one got knocked over and kept playing with no scratches!! I've heard of speakers on a stand getting knocked over but that's the first I've ever heard of a column ray getting knocked over! Glad to hear they're working out...

As @JHGurganus had stated. A pair of DXR10MKII's will put out more sound and project a lot further than a pair of Stagepas 1K MKII's will. What they will lack is comparable bass. But if you ran them with a single 15" sub it would crush a pair of 1K's. As for the stability of the column I've had no issues and I own 4 of these units. I have had issues with the column on both of the Mackie SRM-Flex speakers I used to own and of course the Bose L1 Pro16 is known for wobbly columns.

Ninguna de esas columnas superan, en calidad de sonido, al Electrovoice Evolve 50 en el modo "LIVE". Tuve el L1 Pro16, pero no tiene el sonido plano y real que un músico en directo necesita. No he tenido el Yamaha, pero no confío en esos altavoces de 1.5 pulgadas para los rangos medios y medios bajos.

I really just feel these systems are way too overpriced for their performance. Evox 12 are almost 3k yet if you buy a full sub and their smaller 10inch top it’s like 1800. Wild times that said the JBL prx one is special I just hate the plastic cab you can tell the bass isn’t bumping. Like it should

True if we are talking about taking one 1000 watt subwoofer and adding a second 1000 watt subwoofer on the other side of the stage. The result will be a 3 DB bump. 6 DB if we couple them side by side. But I don't think that same doubling of power scenario translates to speaker design because there's more factors in play. Otherwise, every 1000 watt 12-in speaker cabinet would have the exact same SPL measurement.
